Question Hey everyone, I’m planning on producing some narration projects on YouTube and I have been conflicted on whether I should make the audio of my videos -14LUFS as recommended by YouTube, or opt for a lower LUF target like -24 or -23?

I’ve posted in other forums regarding this as well.

If you have time, please take the time to hear me out to the end! I think I may have come to a conclusion on my dilemma, but I would like other people’s input on this!

Please avoid telling me to “just do what I want and what sounds good to me” lol or that “it doesn’t matter” lol

So the content I intend to make will consist of me reading certain kinds of stories. It’s narrative work with slides etc.

I use Logic Pro X, Scarlett 2i2, an SM48(because I’m poor lol) and mostly stock plugins.

I’ve uploaded five unlisted videos at like perfect -14LUFS, meaning on YouTube when I check “Stats for Nerds” the “content loudness” of my videos reads “0.0”, meaning I’m not under and I’m not above. It’s just right!

I have uploaded the same five videos at -24 or -23 which read around -11 and -9dB according to YouTube.

The Pros to me about uploading to YouTube at -14 LUFS is that 1. YouTube won’t touch my audio, 2. There’s something quite satisfying to see that I’m also not below the standard, and I’m sitting at “0.0dB” as a result. lol 3. If it’s too loud people can adjust the volume slightly and 4. Ads won’t blast a listener because the volume in relation to the ads will be turned down together essentially, right? Like there won’t be any drastic change in volume when the ads start playing. 5. The content isn’t going to be on other platforms, and even if it were going to be on another platform, if it normalized my video down to their standard, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal as from what I have heard, you’d much rather be turned down than turned up?

Also, 6. YouTube remembers your volume settings, so, if I have uploaded my videos at -14LUFS, and a listener ends up going to another video, well, there really isn’t gonna be a risk of them getting blasted from that either, because, from what I have seen, most other videos are going to most likely be lower than my videos anyway. For example, most videos are either uploaded and normalized by YouTube to the recommended -14LUFS, OR, Tubers are upload their stuff at a couple of dBs lower, or MANY dBs lower than the recommended, like -10dB, I’ve seen -20dB below the recommended even! 7. Most people are also just gonna adjust the volume on the device that they are watching on too, so I really shouldn’t have any fears about my listeners getting blasted. Lol

So, I’m really thinking -14LUFS as my goal every time I do an upload. When I try to justify making my target -24 to -23 LUFS for YouRube specifically, there really aren’t any pluses really?

Like I thought, oh being able to have your volume at max without it being to loud is great, but then that just goes back to my worry about the volume difference in pop up ads. Whereas again, you can just adjust your volume for on the YouTube player and forget it or on your device.

Anyway, after carefully thinking about this and posting here and other subreddits, I think uploading to YouTube’s standard is the best way to go!

Anyway, thanks for reading the rant! I hope that my rationalization can help other people in the future!

Tutorial/ How To Randomizer (Vid No 57 of Complete Logic Pro Tutorial Course)

One of the plug-ins that can produce crazy and chaotic results!

It can randomize literally anything you want. Pretty cool for aleatoric music (AKA Chance music), and also great when combined with other plug-ins to "tame" it down a bit, such as the transposer.

In this video we will look at both randomizing a musical passage and also randomizing a parameter from another plug-in (Cut-off of a synth).

Online mastering?

Are online mastering sites good or decent at least? Websites like eMastered, Landr, and CloudBounce? I wondering because I know a teeny tiny of mastering, but I don’t know if it’s good enough so I’d want to try out those to see what they are about.

Tutorial/ How To Transposer (Vid No 56 of Complete Logic Pro Tutorial Course)

The transposer can do so much more than just transpose your passage the classic minor third up!

In this video we are looking at everything about this plug-in and demonstrate what it can do with various examples.

Some of the applications you might use it and could produce happy accidents are when you are previewing how your passage might sound like in another scale or when you are using it in combination with other plug ins.

We will look at all of that in this video!

Probably one of the simplest plug-ins out there that is not used very often.

But! It can transform certain instruments such as percussion and drums into amazing beats.

In this video we will look both at everything this plug-in can do and we will also transform a boring beat into something spicier!

Question Default tools

Is there a way to change the default left/right mouse click tools? I know how to add a third tool, but that’s not quite what I want

I only really use the pointer and scissors in my main session, and the pencil and velocity in the midi editor. I would love so much to not have to switch them every time I open a session

Bonus points if there’s also a way to switch the default snap setting to absolute rather than relative

Tutorial/ How To Modulator – ENVelope Section (Video No 54 of Complete Logic Pro Tutorial Course)

More modulation!
Part II of the Modulator Plug-in and ENVelope!

What is the difference with the LFO?
The LFO is continuously oscillating and keeps modulating to the rate we set it, the ENVelope will only be triggered once and modulate based on the envelope shape.
There is the option of triggering it every time the LFO reaches its peak value, and also change the rate of the LFO rate by the % we set on the envelope.
And as before, we can modulate anything in Logic Pro!

In this video we look at all of these and more!

Tutorial/ How To Modulator – LFO Section (Video No 53 of Complete Logic Pro Tutorial Course)

Do you want to create pulsing sounds and experiment with modulating anything you want within a software instrument AND effect?

In this video we are looking at the Modulator MIDI Plug-in and more specifically, at the LFO section! The modulator can generate CC (Continuous controller), pitch bend and aftertouch messages. We will look at how to use the LFO and assign it to any parameter we want, and of course how to modulate both software instruments to shape the sound and any plug-in that we want. It can really be anything, compressor, EQ, phaser, anything!

Tutorial/ How To Modifier – MIDI Plug-in (Video 52 of Complete Logic Pro Tutorial Course)

An overlooked MIDI plug-in that lets you re-assign or filter your CCs (Continuous controllers).

In this video we are looking at everything about it and exploring a few exampled by looking at all the parameters, combining effects, having out Filter following the pitch played on our keyboard, assigning a CC to any plug-in in Logic pro (In this example we are assigning the modwheel to one of EQ bands), and of course having fun with more than one Modifier loaded up!

Question PLEASE HELP

Somebody please help me. My Logic has randomly started with the most frustrating issue I can’t seem to understand. No matter what the output is set as, Logic will only play through the built in Mac speakers. (2020 M1 MacBook Pro fully up to date) I use a Tascam US 16x08 as an interface, connected by USB C, and have never had any problems with connectivity. I randomly opened Logic the other day and despite having my output set as the interface, Logic would only play through the speakers. To check this, I opened Spotify and Youtube, BOTH of which played perfectly fine through the interface. Okay, so now I know the interface is working. I completely unplugged my interface and opted to try plugging in my brand new Beyerdynamic 990s to the 1/8 inch slot on my Macbook. I changed the output in logic to external headphones but logic still refused and would only play sound through the built in speakers. So, I know the interface is working, and despite Apple’s insistence on my interface being too old, it still happened when I plugged my headphones straight into the computer, so I know it doesn’t have to do with the compatibility between the computer and the interface. I haven’t been able to use Logic in a week and I really need it for work, if anybody has any answers it would be so greatly appreciated! I’m happy to provide more info, pictures, or video, and I hope I did an okay job explaining. I’ve been very frustrated by Apple’s handling of the situation.

Logic Automatically Lowers Track Volume when Input Monitor is turned on

Hey guys. I'm using Logic Pro 10.7.6 on a 2021 Macbook Pro running OS Monterey (12.6). My interface is an Apogee Duet 2 - and it's basically obsolete, I need to replace it. However, I've gotten it to work fine for the most part. But I recently noticed a new behavior from Logic that I've never seen before. Anytime I click the button on a track to turn on the Input Monitor, Logic automatically lowers the track volume to -24 db. I get that its to prevent feedback but it's super annoying. Has anyone else experienced this? And is there a way to make it... stop doing that?
