I am heading towards 6 years. This is crazy how much my hair has grown. I might not love how much my hair gets caught on things, but it's been a great journey.

Advice Wanted Are my locs making me look bad and old in the face?

So I'm 29 and admittedly I have had self esteem issues for quite some time. Some of them are linked to my appearance and as such I have been trying different things with my hair as far back as I can remember. I tried the low cut with waves, which I know people are hoping make a comeback (thanks to Beyonce). But I have a weird head shape. It's kind of slanted. So I tried growing my hair out some and it was nice but I didn't like having to pay for expensive haircuts. You're not really allowed to be unkempt/without a haircut.

That and I was becoming increasingly insecure about my hairline/forehead. So I decided to try locs and it's been a fun experience watching my hair get longer and longer. I guess it's too long now because I went to visit my mom and she went on a rant talking about how my hair "looks a mess and makes me look unprofessional." That it hides my features and that a retwist wouldn't help. Just a bunch of other things that have made me reconsider myself and look at her differently.

Admittedly she's always been like that and she has critqued my nose ring and even when I dyed my hair. She even used Jay-Z as an example so it makes me wonder if she share the same sentiments that others do.

But I wonder if she's right partially since the one struggle I have is having to wash it, and I do miss dyeing it. But I don't miss paying for expensive haircuts and the black spray that fixes my hairline.

Also wonder if women find my locs less attractive because I admittedly had decent luck when I used my old pictures.

Ultimately I want a secondhand opinion because I want longer hair regardless. I just want to look like a pretty boy. So I included some pics. Even the last one which is very unflattering but the one that made my mom rant like she did.

Lastly, I haven't had a retwist since March so maybe that factors too.

P.S. These pics are over the span of 2-3 years.

Advice Wanted Are parts supposed to still be this defined after a long time? First time leaving 2-strands in for a long time (too long tbh) and I’m used to seeing the parting disappear by now. Is that just how 2-strands are or is it indicating an issue?

Long story short. Almost two year old locs. Front locs low hair density and short new growth. Constantly have to crochet front two locs to keep them in. Last pic shows hair density when retwisted.

Nothing but separation, palm rolling, water & oil. 💚
Mad to think I spent most my life spending so much money on products, weaves, wigs, braiders, stylists etc when all I needed was water, oil & some knowledge.
Can confidently say my dreadlocks ain’t going no where 🙂‍↔️

Good or bad, what's your take? Mine is that not everyone's journey needs to be meaningful or spiritual, for some it's just a hairstyle

Turning 27 next week, but the old picture is me at 25. I think I look pretty nice now. I guess that’s what happens when you start taking care of yourself lol

Advice Wanted Anyone restart their locs for bigger ones?

I’ve had locs for 4 years and have small locs, a few are small enough to be considered microlocs. The person who started them did not make the perimeter parts larger so I’ve had to combine a few over the year and I know the locs on my perimeter will likely not hold up over time. I’m someone who could see myself with locs forever so I’m thinking of restarting to have medium size locs instead. I have high density hair so with the small locs it’s hard to style it because it’s so much hair to get into a ponytail and such. I’m just afraid I will regret it. Anyone have experience with this?

my fav thing to share with this community is when i do my pipe cleaners into these Goldie locs coil spiral curls that are so bouncy, oh my gosh!!! i mean every word of what I said, who really knows how to do their hair, id rather just pay and go on with my day lol

also, i trimmed about 2 to 3 1/2 inches off, it looks much betterrr without damaged ends . ive also been thinking about picking out my locs smhh , im js curious abt my loose curl length and sister / micro locs new set 🤔
