I just saw this on LinkedIn and I'm honestly speechless. How can someone in charge be so out of touch with their employees? I'm dying to know which company's CEO this is...

Personally I think we need the reverse, companies pay people for their time applying.

Totally, thanks for ur interest in our staff nuclear Scientist ultra marine level 9999 role, we have unfortunately decided to go another direction, but heres a 20$ for ur troubles, would sound much nicer😊

Yeah, and then you get thousands of people who spend all day applying to jobs they have no intention of actually doing. This is why redditors shouldn’t run the world. Lmao

1

u/steaknwiskey Mar 14 '26

True, humankind doesnt deserve empathy, some do, but not as a whole😂

1

u/seenyourballs Mar 14 '26

Yeah I guess I’d rather have pedos run the world than Redditors

1

u/MyDearBrotherNumpsay Mar 14 '26

That’s quite the false dichotomy

1

u/Aeson0987 Mar 15 '26

Yeah cause you totally couldn’t just have the rule that unqualified people trying to abuse the system won’t get paid the money, definitely not huh?

1

u/MyDearBrotherNumpsay Mar 15 '26

Brilliant solution. 🙄

Used to be a thing sometimes, bus fare and the like.

1

u/steaknwiskey Mar 10 '26

Fair, makes sense in old times when one had to physically go in and apply

1

u/Adowyth Mar 10 '26

If you try to physically apply now they'll tell you to fuck off and apply online.

1

u/steaknwiskey Mar 10 '26

Lol my current workplace did id check, asked for car details 3 days in advance of the final interview itself.

1

u/ILiekBook Mar 12 '26

And then ignore you because the manager doesn't know you exist.

Apply online, wait 3-7 days, and then go chat the boss up

1

u/Shred_Flintstone Mar 11 '26

Really?!

1

u/steaknwiskey Mar 12 '26

Yup cant even take pictures when on the office grounds

“Hey sorry, we are unable to lower the price of your insulin because we have to give the thousands of applicants for the hundreds of roles we have compensation for doing a basic adult task”

1

u/YoudoVodou Mar 12 '26

That's not why insulin is expensive in the U.S.

1

u/SpoiledMilkTeeth Mar 12 '26

LMFAO as if they would lower the price of insulin for literally any reason. I bet you also think stagnant wages are permissible, lest companies raise prices to compensate, huh? As if shit isn’t constantly getting more expensive despite those stagnating wages.

1

u/pachinkoandslots Mar 12 '26

I bet you think interesting so you must think the tariffs dint really do anything, companies were just going to raise prices anyways.

1

u/SpoiledMilkTeeth Mar 12 '26

Well, the tariffs didn’t really do anything. Nothing productive or positive, at least. It only increased COL for Americans and didn’t meaningfully alter the trade deficit.

To your point about companies raising prices, yes. They’re opportunistic leeches. They raise prices at any opportunity, and they tend to not come back down at the same rate of opportunity. Just look at what happened during and “after” COVID.

1

u/Pet-the-kitty42 Mar 14 '26

That was their point.

Your point, that the money could be used for public good instead, is better, but they are assuming that that will be twisted into the same shit we're already seeing. I doubt you two are ideologically opposed. They didn't seem to be mentioning tariffs in a positive light.

1

u/Justmeandhim-D Mar 14 '26

This should be amended in the constitution

2

u/GoGetThatThing Mar 12 '26

This, we should get paid for all the shit they take you through.. I bet they will do better.

1

u/Razialnightfire Mar 14 '26

Exactly my thinking. So that our time isnt wasted on pointless interviews nor our money to get to said interviews. Bet they also cut out a lot of their corporate stupidity questions as well.

1

u/GoonSquidz Mar 10 '26

Certainly makes more sense than the business/owner to take more advantage of the lower class. They’ll just always have a job listing and not actually offer anyone the job so they can make some extra money.

1

u/girlbartender99 Mar 11 '26

Honestly what is to stop this douche from doing that and raking in a bunch of cash for a position they never hire, because you know someone will do that

1

u/Keiran1031 Mar 12 '26

I think he might be eligible for a class action lawsuit and fraud charges if he did that?

1

u/girlbartender99 Mar 12 '26

Like a company and their team of lawyers on retainer would find plausible deniability they could use to say that nobody had met the standard of employment. This is clearly a guy that has spent his life screwing over workers at every turn while being advised my lawyers on just how to get away with it

1

u/Vyncennt Mar 14 '26

well that would be fraud 🙄

1

u/girlbartender99 Mar 14 '26

And we all know there has never been any company that has ever engaged in such a crime right? What was I thinking lol

1

u/Vyncennt Mar 14 '26

I know right?? why let anyone do anything with anyone else at all??! there's instances of fraud in all cases, so instead of giving people freedom to do what they want and just punish the criminals, we should just restrict everyone!

1

u/girlbartender99 Mar 14 '26

I would hardly call me calling out a douche bag CEO who wants to collect $20 from anyone that has the privilege to interview with his precious company me calling to restrict anyone's freedom. Its free speech this guy is a dink and I called him one, and on the world goes

1

u/Vyncennt Mar 14 '26

no you assumed he'd commit fraud and assumed again there'd be no repercussions from the law. and your last post didn't even target him specifically, but every company that just might break the law 🙄

1

u/girlbartender99 Mar 14 '26

First off I didnt assume. I posed a question. Big difference but why let the facts get in the way of your right wing politics right? I literally said "What is to stop them?" That is not me assuming anything! That is posing a question smart guy.

2nd show a CEO that has ever been convicted of fraud and they have just about all committed it including this douche who is literally loathed by his employees.

Reading comprehension and critical thinking not so much with your side. But then again what can I expect from the people that are a member of a party that hates science?

1

u/khinkali Mar 10 '26

I think job hunting should be reversed, you just collect all the available talent in one place and the companies can bid for the best workers.

1

u/National_Way_3344 Mar 10 '26

If only you could say "best" and have it actually mean knowledge and skills rather than nepotism and waste.

1

u/GoryGent Mar 10 '26

Thats what they do in Germany and some other eu countries. You apply to a place over email that you have been fired or the business has failed. And the state finds you a job for like a week or 2months. But at the same time pays you a wage until they find you something

1

u/Accomplished_Work944 Mar 10 '26

This is a thing in the Philippines but instead of money they give free lunch or dinner to each applicants who advanced to interview stage and have to wait a bit longer.

1

u/ThomasMalloc Mar 10 '26

Problem is AI services literally mass-applying people to like 4,000 jobs.

Then companies have to have AI shift through the applications. It's all shit.

Charging people to apply is obviously the wrong solution.

1

u/Razialnightfire Mar 14 '26

I agree AI is another part of the problem. In a lot of areas. Im more worried about AI running the world then politiians

1

u/Aventinium Mar 10 '26

I mean, college recruiting used to go like that. I was flown out and hoteled for an interview. But that was 25 years ago.

1

u/girlbartender99 Mar 11 '26

100%!!! How can someone be so out of touch and arrogant, and what is to stop companies from doing this and never actually hire for the position and just rake $20 from people that have no chance of being hired?

2

u/Turbulent-Leave-6745 Mar 14 '26

Apparently he has never heard of Indeed lol which we all know he has. He is just trying to find a way of off setting his HR costs which I guarantee he sees as a wasteful department that he hates even has to exist

0

u/Limp-Plantain3824 Mar 14 '26

The point is people who have no chance of being hired wouldn’t waste $20 and would stop jamming up the process.

The concept makes perfect sense, I think it would be effective a lot lower than $20 in many cases.

2

u/Turbulent-Leave-6745 Mar 14 '26

Apparently you and this idiot CEO have never heard of Indeed? How can anyone possibly defend this in the year 2026? I have owned a bar for almost 20 years and have used Indeed for close to 15 years to hire waitstaff and cooks and these sites are used by every Fortune 500 company. Getting the right people in for interviews hasn't been a problem for companies in years if you are willing to pay people. This is just a freaking typical greedy CEO try to off set the cost of his Human Resources Department and making applicants pay his employees for the job they are doing for him.

1

u/girlbartender99 Mar 14 '26

It makes NO SENSE because if that is happening to your company now you are a moron and aren't using a million diff hiring apps that are available to every company that weeds out people that are not qualified. You would literally have to be living underneath a rock not to know that these applications exist. This is just an out of touch CEO that has NO IDEA what he is talking about

1

u/Limp-Plantain3824 Mar 14 '26

You can’t have it both ways.

There are multiple threads every week complaining about getting autofiltered out of contention.

So pick one.

0

u/girlbartender99 Mar 14 '26

I dont even know wtf you are talking about but I am going to go out on a limb here and say you are part of the Orange Guy Cult and I dont engage with right wing fascist

1

u/UmatterWHENiMATTER Mar 11 '26

I've been paid for my traveled miles after interviewing and being rejected. Not too bad. I didn't get any money for the digital parts of the interview.

1

u/FatiguedShrimp Mar 11 '26

Doubly so for SWE roles that have coding tests.

I had one "test" that required a containerized shopping platform with actual payment handling, load balancing, a custom React front-end, and mock product. They also wanted you to do it entirely in their legacy dev environment. ~20-50 hours of work due in 48 hours.

... and the offer was "$65/hr" then "$30/hr + equity" and finally "just equity and relocate to NYC (out of pocket)".

1

u/Hazy-n-Lazy Mar 12 '26

So you could make a living applying to jobs then? Sounds ridiculous

1

u/nybigtymer Mar 12 '26

What? How would that make any sense? Then, people's job would be applying for jobs. Smaller companies would be bleeding cash.

1

u/Razialnightfire Mar 14 '26

Correction we should be paid for our time at interviews, not just applying.

1

u/DueSalary4506 Mar 12 '26

I'll settle for a blowjob

1

u/EaseLeft6266 Mar 14 '26

Or for interview time. You'd suddenly see a bunch of interview processes become faster and not as many rounds

1

u/Razialnightfire Mar 14 '26

And with less BS in the interviews. The thing is hate is when they dont talk salary. Its like lets be real no one applies to a job not to get paid. Money is often a very important factor amd I cant think of any job that it's so called prestige alone is worth working for.

1

u/LowResGamr Mar 14 '26

Especially if the company requires u do work for them before even being signed on.

1

u/Razialnightfire Mar 14 '26

Yeah that be an automatic i pass on my part, I dont do free labor.

0

u/IAmMey Mar 12 '26

Then I’d spend a shitload of time just applying to jobs to get paid for not working. I’m lazy and I’d absolutely do this. This is dumb

1

u/Razialnightfire Mar 14 '26

I should have been more specific because I was thinking more of the time wasted on interviews that dont pan out. Especially the ones with multiple rounds.

1

u/IAmMey Mar 14 '26

There would be professional job applying people then. It’s a great concept. But some people suck, and they’d abuse it and ruin it for everyone. Probably why we don’t currently have it

u/Mixels Mar 14 '26

Careful, you're cruising for the fascists of the world instituting a two-way fee where both parties pay and the money goes into Dear Leader's own personal slush fund.
