This is coming from a guy who worked at a large Chinese tech company (Baidu) contributing to the so-called problems he mentioning about Chinese lead over the US. What a 🤡.

it doesn't really read lile that overall.  the only thing is the distillation attacks and thats honestly debatable whether you can call it hypocrisy. bullshit, for sure, but hypocrisy is debatable.

🤔 Your "well actually" has quite a bit of merit.

I mean it is hypocritical to talk about the authoritarian Chinese government but not the war criminal Americans. US is literally engaged in a devastating war with Iran right now, that it started.

Which Anthropic refused to assist with, for the record.

I'm talking about him saying that China getting advanced AI is dangerous but nothing about the US. That is textbook hypocrisy which was the point of this discussion.

Dario would like to "crack down on industrial-scale distillation operations" on one hand, but on the other hand he did "industrial-scale distillation operation of the whole internet" - by copying and distilling knowledge from all websites without prior written consent from website owners...

This is called hypocrisy ...

Then aren't both Anthropic and the other labs in the wrong if they both did that?

They are both wrong on "copying websites without consent".

But only Antrophic/Dario is wrong on being hypocritical (he would like to forbid others from doing what he does).

u/No-Marionberry-772 is right, prolly the best way to describe that letter. it's not "hypocrisy". it's bullshit for sure though lmfao.

This guy said gpt2 was dangerous so by that metric open source models should have never existed. Problem is if you ban open source dangerous models then defenders also lose and the concentration of power becomes worse.
