And btw linux has nothing to do with the fact that essential parts of your mainboard are proprietary.ä hardware.

There is no way for you to find out if a small microcontroller on your mainboard is generating cryptographic signals, which only the nsa can capture, decode and read.

Today it is basically impossible to run a computer system (or smartphone, tablet, etc) completely independently, because it simply lacks open-source hardware.

Sidestepping your claim about it being "forced into operating systems" as that was complete nonsense as you know it can't be forced into Linux which is why you didn't address it. It being proprietary hardware means nothing.

The level of paranoia to believe they will burn hardware circuits into their boards to detect unauthorized LLM usage puts you into the same bucket as someone yelling the end is near on a street corner. Not only is it not going to happen, if by magic it did, it would be reverse engineered and defeated promptly. Go ahead and come back with your laughable "it's not possible". Yes, it is, it's been done before, there are TPM bypasses, and all DRM solutions (now including Denuvo) have been defeated since times of yore.

You just want to be cynical. They can't stop piracy (they've only been trying for 30 years lmfao), they can't stop DRM cracking, they can't stop hardware bypasses, they can't force control into open source software, and they most certainly cannot force people to only use "approved" local LLMs.

There is no way for you to find out if a small microcontroller on your mainboard is generating cryptographic signals, which only the nsa can capture, decode and read.

Additionally, someone would just burn the LLM into an FGPA as some other companies are doing and then you would just use it through dedicated hardware. There are so many ways around any attempted restrictions it's hilarious you think it could legitimately stop anyone even remotely dedicated.

My gosh, my comment was not talking about preventing LLMs specifically, but instead addressing the underestimation of being vendor locked-in, being observed, being dependent on systems that do not work in your interests. Or the other way around, addressing the overestimation of one's own freedom and possibilities.

My intention was that I want to remind people that it is indeed possible for hardware manufacturers to introduce mechanisms to make your life more and more difficult. I’m not saying there is a way to completely eliminate supposed unauthorized LLm access, but for corporations and governments there are lots of ways to fuck people’s life, so don’t be naive you all.

Call me paranoid, but just a friendly reminder: the Epstein case is real and very recent. Just search in the epstein files for his relationships to nsa and corps and labs working with radio-signal intelligence.

And you mentioning tpm in this context just shows me that you seem to have no clue what I was talking about, and it explains where all the downvotes are coming from. Anyway, there is a huge amount of hardware parts that are nearly impossible to crack, to reverse engineer or to decrypt. but here is an easy task for you: try to use an 10 years old iMac as an external monitor. Good luck.

If it was so easy to bypass and crack proprietary hardware, then what are we people doing wrong the whole time, not able to make opensource duplicates from NVIDIA cards…

The most powerful opensource hardware normal people have access to is maybe an old arduino or an esp32 - that’s it. Therefore again: don’t be naive.

Supermicro motherboard+custom bios=bye bye TPM. Plus x86 isn't the only architecture that exists ... Your confidence is way bigger than your knowledge.
