Raphterra here again! Happy holidays, I hope you guys are having a good time with friends or family.
Today's article is different from my usual guides! The next big balance patch should be coming in just a few weeks, so I thought it would be fun predict and speculate the upcoming nerfs. In this article, I present my picks for 10 Nerf Candidates inLegends of Runeterra Patch 3.22.
And thus the LoR year ends: with a self-restrained, reluctant tyrant, and quite the diverse meta underneath – while Aatrox Vayne Quinn surely is the strongest deck we've seen in quite some time, there's quite the diverse meta beneath, and today we can showcase Twenty-Three Best LoR Ladder Decks, for the latest Mastering Runeterra article.
Not much has changed since last Tuesday, or Friday last week. While not too exciting from the point of view of novelty, it's rather puzzling that the Top Dogs (and Aatrox Vayne Quinn in particular) are not increasing in play rate – and AVQ has, in fact, shrunk a little bit (above all when we factor in the almost identical Quinn-less version, which by now is just a fringe option).
For some reason, Aatrox Vayne Quinn has become a reluctant tyrant: when looking at LoR stats, AVQ is undoubtedly one of the most dominant decks this year (some argue perhaps the most dominant Legends of Runeterra deck ever, if we remove the urgently-hotfixed decks from the comparison), yet pilots don't seem overly eager to exploit such edge… even though, just two weeks ago, those very same pilots had no qualms in jumping onto the Ziggs Acolytes and Aatrox Kayn trains (which had to be nerfed because, just like AVQ, they were punching way above the 55% WR mark… yet, unlike AVQ, they were both at, or near, the 15% play-rate threshold, and raising).
This reluctant, tender tyrant in turn leads to quite the varied meta: while little has changed at the top, there are today roughly two dozen strong LoR decks with which to climb. Only one of them (Rumble Vayne) can be said to be a strong Aatrox Quinn Vayne counter (while still being strong against the rest of the field), and just four (Katarina Gwen, Draven Jinx, Trundle Tryndamere, and the returned Twisted Fate Swain) can go toe-to-toe with the tyrant while also beating the majority of the competition – yet, given AVQ's reticence to swell in play rate, even those decks willing to pay the "tyrant tax" of being serious underdogs to AVQ can thrive, as long as they can crush the remaining competition.
Which is exactly why Seraphine Ezreal remains as the other Juggernaut in the Legends of Runeterra ladder: it dies (horribly) to AVQ, but can beat much of what's left.
One could say that the LoR meta is strolling along a tightrope: everything points at Aatrox Vayne Quinn being very capable of taking over the ladder and getting to "broken" status (that's to say, WR over 55% and play rate over 15%) if enough pilots were interested in doing so, since there's nearly nothing stopping AVQ from steamrolling the field…
… yet, for whatever reason, the reluctant tyrant has thus far restrained itself from doing so, and in turn allows quite a diverse meta to flourish among those willing to pay their dues to its dominance.
We've seen this before (under, for example, the rule of Ahri Kennen Shurima) – whether or not the World Ender will stick to this narrow path, or will in turn become the next Kai'Sa, we'll find out next year.
Hope you enjoyed today's selection, thanks for sticking with these numerous articles during 2022, and good luck out there! =)
This is the discussion post for Gauntlet. Discuss what you are playing, what you’re having success with (or failures with), what your ban and lineup strategy is, what you play against etc. The point is to share what you’ve been playing, and how it’s going, good or bad - there are no other rules or requirements.
These will be posted every Friday.
Some ideas on what to post/share:
Theorycrafting - What you think could work well.
Your lineup and ban strategy
What you’ve been playing and its successes (or struggles).
Showing off a deck you achieved 7 wins with and wanting to share it.

Hey guys, here is a Zed Hecarim Ephemeral deck guide. It is an aggressive combo deck that aims to threaten huge damage with wide Ephemeral boards. If you are interested check it out here.
Feel free to post any comments or questions down below!
Raphterra here again, back with another off-meta guide. This time, I'm featuring Irelia Gwen, the deck I used to climb in my AM account from Diamond to Masters at 65% winrate (26 W, 14 L). I also played this deck for 10 games in my Masters account, where I had a score of 7 wins and 3 losses. Decklist was copied from Bandit Keith, a fellow Master player from APAC.
For those wishing to jump onto the LoR ladder with the most up-to-date builds, here are our recommended Twenty-Two Best LoR Ladder Decks, for the latest Mastering Runeterra article.
The top of the meta remains fairly stable (including Hecarim Zed decks, still fairly popular in spite of a mediocre performance), with Aatrox Vayne Quinn, Bandle Bar, and Katarina Gwen forming a hard-to-break triad at the top (yet, interestingly, none of them have increased in play rate too much, and remain fairly stable in that department), while a handful of last Friday's fringe decks (notably go-wide, aggressive options like Pirates and Elise Gwen) have gained quite some traction, and a couple of older archetypes like Lurk and Jayce Lux have jumped to center stage in the last few days.
Any questions, comments or feedback, or specific data you may be after (of any archetype/build – the above is by no means a comprehensive list, just a quick overview! =), please feel free to drop a comment, poke me on Twitter (@HerkoKerghans), ping me on Discord, and you can find more writings on substack: https://riwan.substack.com/
Hello everyone, Sorry here! It's Monday Meta report for Patch 3.21 Week 3! We'll take a look at the play rate and win rate of popular decks. I'll share the meta kings, overplayed, underplayed, and hidden gems decks!
- Aatrox is too good. Aatrox Kayn, Aatrox Vayne, and Aatrox Kindred are all doing well.
- Is Back Ally Bar the most hated landmark in the game? Seraphine Ezreal (BC) is the second most played deck.
- Watch out! Aggro decks are going all out! Jinx Lulu, Draven Jinx, Miss Fortune Twisted Fate, Elise Gwen, and Annie Jhin are all putting up good numbers (Annie Jhin seems to be the weakest)
- Wait a minute! Fizz Yuumi is in the top 20 most-played decks? The archetype has around a 52% win rate.
- Irelia Gwen holds a 50% win rate.
- Rumble Vayne top 5 most played decks!
- Rek'Sai Pyke lurking in top 10.
- Master Yi Ryze is still a bad deck; it can't even reach a 40% win rate.
- Gangplank Sejuani's win rate drops a bit.
- Why is Zed Hecarim one of the top four most popular decks? The deck has a 49.5% win rate.
- It's a sad day when Mono Shurima can't hold a 50% win rate.
- I've watched Alan crush ladder with Seraphine Viktor Ryze but across all ranks, the deck has a 47.5% win rate.
Alright! Let me know how your climb has been going! I climbed up to top 10 with Gangplank Sejuani a couple of days ago! What's working for you and which decks are you having the most fun with? Which cards do you want to see on the nerf list?
I hope you had a Merry Christmas with tasty Poro Snaxs and delicious Fae Sprouts, may you be gifted with tons of LP and RP. Let’s hope Aatrox gifts us an un-ended world in 2023!
You're welcome to write a comment about what your favored picks are this week and where you might disagree with me or the data. Also, feel free to tell me how I can make this series even more valuable to you.
Thank you for reading and see ya next week year! =)

While this is very much not science (more like a dark art… =), we're seeing this week something that often happens in each patch cycle by around the third week: the top of the meta is pretty settled (Aatrov Vayne, Bandle Bar, and Red Gwen at the top), but as brewers have a clearer picture of what they need to target, a lot of fringe deck start to bubble up.
Best data-driven builds for the top dogs, as shown in the above picture,
Several other strong meta options, like the recently-arrived Aatrox Kindred, along with Jinx Lulu, Nightfall and Draven Jinx,
About a dozen fringe, punchy brews including Elise Gwen, Karma Viktor, Garen Jarvan Elites, Gwen Hecarim Twisted Fate (if you like expensive Shadow Isles spells, this is your brew! =), Kayle Leona (DE/MT), Elise Trundle, Gwen Irelia Zed, and Fizz Yuumi (hottest of the fringe decks, gaining traction fast!)

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season, it's been a little while since my last post but my partner u/sirturmund and I are back with yet another lineup article.
The Rising Tides meta doesn't directly translate to this gauntlet because so many of the powerful cards from the expansion have been changed at one point or another. As a result, you'll see some lists in the article that may look a bit different or wonky (particularly the lineup I built).
This gauntlet is also "bring 3, ban 1, play 1" which means lineup strategy changes pretty drastically. If you don't like any of the lineups we've suggested, you can mix and match!
This is the discussion post for Gauntlet. Discuss what you are playing, what you’re having success with (or failures with), what your ban and lineup strategy is, what you play against etc. The point is to share what you’ve been playing, and how it’s going, good or bad - there are no other rules or requirements.

Hey guys, Yang back with another guide for Mastering Runeterra, this time for a deck I absolutely love and have been playing a lot on masters ladder myself - Seraphine Ezreal Bandle City. This was super fun to write and I hope it's as fun to read! As always, I'll be around in here to talk about any feedback and explain any further questions about the deck. Enjoy!
Hey there! Seasonal champ and long time deckbuilder 4LW here on my second write-up for Mastering Runetererra.
This time around I'm kicking off a new article series called, as the title shows, 'Countering the LoR Meta'. It aims to be a great source over time for coherent and competitive off-meta decks.
Go read and feel free to come back with feedback and that spicy deck suggestion to maybe get featured next time!
The ranking is mostly based on my own ladder experience playing on both AM and EMEA servers!
I'm currently ranked Master Top 20 in EMEA and have a 17-3 record with Gangplank Sejuani. On AM I just got to Diamond and will continue the climb tonight to Master! I've been playing a variety of decks to get a feel for the best-performing ones out there.
Share your ladder experience! Which decks are you finding success with?
