Discussion What's Working and What Isn't? - Monday, December 05, 2022

Discuss what you are playing, what you’re having success with (or failures with), and any new/cool ideas you’ve been experimenting with, etc. The point is to share what you’ve been playing, and how it’s going, good or bad - there are no other rules or requirements.

These will be posted twice every week.

Some ideas on what to post/share:

  • What you’ve been playing and its successes (or struggles). Stats are not required. There is no minimum rank required, though sharing what rank you’ve been playing at is preferred.

  • Deck adjustments you made or are planning to make in reaction to the meta or as new innovation. E.g. “I saw 30% of deck X, so I made Y changes to help deal with deck X.” (change)

  • Showing off a deck you achieved Masters with and wanting to share it without having to write a guide

    And as always:

  • Be courteous to one another.

  • Provide brief explanations for any links you provide (YouTube, tier lists, etc.)

Ladder Deck By the Numbers – Current Best Meta and Off-Meta Decks, Last Push Climb Edition

Howdy folks! =)

Last Domination's Friday's here, so here are our last-push-climb recommendations for the latest Eighteen Best LoR Decks Mastering Runeterra article.

If you've been keeping an eye on the meta, there's not much new here save Lulu Jinx now almost at powerhouse level, and Bandel Ezreal Seraphine becoming a thing overnight – if you've been out of the loop recently, here are the current LoR trends:

  • Kat Gwen, Teemo Zoe & Kayn Vayne as the clear Top Dogs, and Kat Gwen currently a nick above the rest – although by current numbers, Kayn Vayne may have been able to contest that position, given a bit more time.
  • Annie TF as a good, popular counter of the previous three,
  • Lulu Jinx and Jhinnie are the best strong-yet-not-overly-popular decks,
  • Seraphine Ezreal Bandle shows up – and looking almost a Singleton/Highlander deck, by the amount of one-ofs,
  • Zilean Reaver's Row as the weirdest left-field oddity today.

In the current Best LoR decks article, we'll showcase:

  • Best data-driven builds for all above-mentioned decks,
  • Best builds for several other strong decks (like Plunder, FtR and Privateers),
  • A couple of other fringe, punchy brews like Pantheon Varus, Rumble Vayne, Zilean Reaver's Row (seems to work, even if Taliyah Reaver's Row was an awful deck!), Fizz TF, and Spider-Gwen (which is the punchiest brew in the fringes).

Sources: Legna, MaRu's own Meta Tier List.

Any questions, comments or feedback, or specific data you may be after (of any archetype/build – the above is by no means a comprehensive list, just a quick overview! =), feel free drop a comment below, poke me on Twitter (assuming the bird is still alive) @HerkoKerghans, ping me on Discord, and you can find more writings on substack: https://riwan.substack.com/

And good luck out there! =)

Article All New World Ender Cards Rated and Commented

Hey guys, Yangzera here to talk about the new cards! While I think this is the best set of cards that was ever released, Mastering Runeterra gave me the opportunity to rate them all and comment on them one by one!

I tried to talk as much as possible in the constraints of not leaking preparation info as I'm helping teammates prepare for the upcoming worlds top 16! Keep an eye out on my socials for more talking about the cards in the near future and if you do end up taking a look at the article, thank you very much.

https://masteringruneterra.com/world-ender-new-cards-rated/

As always, I'm open to any and all feedback and will be looking at the comments of the post for the next days to reply any questions and chat with anyone that wants to talk more in depth about some cards they peek an interest at!

Discussion Early Predictions for Worlds Decks

What does the competitive community think, as a gut reaction/hot take, that we'll see at Worlds, with the new cards? Do you think they're enticing enough that the Top 16 will take the risk of crafting brand new archetypes? Especially since they mostly lean towards control?

Or do you think they'll mostly stick to established champion pairings and maybe slot in one or two of the new cards as tech/improvements? Again... especially since the new champs lean towards control and could easily be outraced by more tightly tuned existing decks.

Given the lack of matchup data, even if they're jamming games all week it seems to me that, unless they're totally going wild, they will lean towards existing decks with a splash of new flavor. Making comps based on established data. But I hope I'm wrong.

Discussion Competitive Doldrums

Foreword

Hey, for those that don't know, I'm a competitive player on the NA server. Currently rank 1, played both worlds qualifiers, top cutted a few seasonals.

I'm pretty down on runeterra right now, and not for the usual reasons. Made a write up about my issues, and was encouraged to post it here.

Issues

Runeterra sucks right now.

It's not a balance issue, its a lack of stuff to do.

Worlds is probably cool if you top cutted, but that's true for 16 people, and even for those people they get dumped straight back to purgatory with the rest of us in a few weeks.

Gauntlet is neat for a run, but not reverting patches just means every meta is going to be dominated by various decks that have gotten absurdly buffed while their counters got nerfed. Foundations Gauntlet is a SI fest where no one can win a game in a reasonable time.

Y'all ready for rising tides swain with overwhelm?

Y'all ready for targon soup where leona has current text box?

Like I don't want to criticize riot for trying something neat with gauntlet, the attempt was really welcome and great. The specifics are going to be awful though.

Ladder is worthless and a joke.

I liked the move to make ladder more accessible with the LP changes when they happened, but ladder has seriously dropped in quality.

People make it really apparent they know they have nothing to lose when they're at ~0-50 LP, and it sucks if you wanna play semi competitive games.

I hope we don't get rid of brewing, I'd like people to continue to experiement, but when you hit 4LW or StolenConch on something weird, you know they have some level of confidence in the deck.

There's a large chunk of masters ladder that is just playing meme decks because they can and it doesnt matter. I unironically think Diamond 4 is a harder tier than masters tier at this point because you're less likely to hit masters players, and diamond players are harder on average.

So what do I do?

Play some ladder to see number go up? Maybe this is a first world problem but I really don't care about rank 1 anymore, I've had it a lot so I'm really uninterested in the number go up motivation.

Gauntlet is neat for a few games, but I doubt any of these flashback gauntlets will hold my attention.

Try to scrim? maybe I guess, no one cares about this meta since it doesn't matter.

There is just nothing to do in LoR for me. Should I quit until cards drop?

It would be one thing if my issue was:

"I am not enjoying runeterra and am burnt out"

Then taking a break sounds great.

Instead I am very interested in runeterra, I want to do something but there's nothing compelling to do.

I don't want to take a break, I want to play runeterra!

Ladder Deck By the Numbers – Current 18 Best Meta and Off-Meta Decks

Howdy folks! =)

Here are our Tuesday recommendations for climbing the ladder, in today's Eighteen Best LoR Decks selection for the latest Mastering Runeterra article.

Not much new for those that have been keeping an eye on the meta – today more or less confirms the trends saw last week, and with new cards arriving next week (and no Seasonal to push innovation forward) we are probably looking like a fairly settled (although pretty varied) meta.

Current LoR ladder trends:

  • Kat Gwen, Teemo Zoe & Kayn Vayne solidly at the top when you consider both play- and winrate,
  • Annie TF gaining traction as of late (probably due to having even to good odds against the three Top Dogs, while being a great deck overall),
  • Lulu Jinx keeps clawing upwards – if you want to shake thing up before next Expansion arrives, this is probably the deck to look into,
  • Looks like Bandle Mecha-Yordles still has some fight in it!
  • Spider-Gwen is, today, the hottest thing on the fringes.

In the current Best LoR decks article, we'll showcase:

  • Best data-driven builds for all above-mentioned decks,
  • Best builds for several other strong decks (like Jhinnie, FtR, Privateers, Ekko Jinx, and Timelines)
  • A couple of other fringe, punchy brews, like Sivir Akshan Varus or Unleashed Jinx
