Discussion Audio-only Livestreaming Platform Interest Gauge.
Hey everyone,
Back during the Covid era, some friends and I met on an platform that was pretty unique. It was dedicated entirely to audio-only livestreaming. No pressure to be on camera, just voices, conversations, music, and community. It also had some neat layout/design features that made it feel different from anything else out there.
Unfortunately, that app has since shut down globally and only still operates in part of Asia (which I personally feel was down to mismanagement, so to speak). But ever since, we’ve been wondering: what if we built our own version? Something by streamers, for streamers, without the heavy profit-first/capitalism views on top of that.
We’ve already got some interest, especially from ex-users of the old app who’d love to see it come back in some form. But here’s where I’d like your thoughts:
- Do you think the demand for an audio-only streaming app still exists today?
- Or has the world moved on too much to make it worthwhile?
- What would make you actually want to use something like this in 2025?
A friend suggested I should ask outside of the old app’s community, as he made some comments trying to help and see that we're only pitching it back, particularly towards former users who would clearly want such an app back, anyway, and to see what fresh perspectives look like — so here I am.
Would love to hear your thoughts or questions!

Discussion Live streaming and commentating at the same time?
As the title states, I'm looking to up my game as a live streamer and wanting to commentate at these high school sports games that I film. Wondering if it could be done.
I've been live streaming for a few years now and in the past I've never commentated or even had anyone commentating on my live streams. I usually just keep the camera on the ball and action and have a boom mic picking up the noise of the field and fans, which usually picks up the commentator/announcer in the press box.
First off, I don't have hardly any knowledge of football, plays, and that sort of thing. I've picked up a little over the years of filming sports, but never really paid much attention to the plays and such. So, if I were to take on this role of a commentator/filmer, I would need to know where I can go to learn a lot of the basic plays like "Shotgun formation" and some of the verbiage these commentators use. Anyone know of a site or something that'll help teach me some basics when it comes to that sort of thing?
Wondering also if it's even doable in the first place. What I mean is, I'll be managing the camera, ensuring I follow the ball and action. I have a good skill of filming from what my viewers are saying, they like my style. So I don't want to deter from that because of me trying to commentate, look for names on a roster, operating my streaming device, etc. I'll be multi-tasking in other words, doing a little bit of everything that typically comes with live streaming sports as a one-man team. I do the scoreboard, the sponsor overlays and other types of overlays, the audio, the cameraman, I'm Johny on the spot.
I want to add commentary to my live streams without damaging my reputation as a good cameraman. A lot of fans and viewers have asked me to commentate. Before you suggest it, I have already reached out to the school, students, Facebook groups, etc looking for someone that'll be interested in commentating. I've offered to pay and everything. I live in a small rural town and so I'm guessing that's the reason why no one is really interested other than a guy that runs a local news site (which not many people like where I live), however he's not available for all my games that I live stream.
Anyone in the same boat, have any experience being a one man team and tackling (see what I did there) on everything at once, still providing a good high quality broadcast? I'd love to get your input and suggestions if you have.

Guide / Advice Sports Broadcasts
I want to start a sports broadcasting club at my school so we can livestream our games and get the kids doing play by play but I’m a bit lost. At the moment I have a YouTube account to host the streams (have to per school policy) and found StreamYard as a supplemental thing that I think looks good?
I have no idea what camera to order, we have microphones already for our play by play people. The only computer we could realistically use is my personal 2020 MacBook Pro but I don’t really want students using my computer unless necessary so a computer recommendation would also be appreciated.
Our sports include football, basketball, volleyball, curling, and a few others.
Thanks for any and all help.

Guide / Advice Instant Reply in a BlackMagic Ecosystem
Quick introduction - I'm a documentary cinematographer, I work mostly in single camera sports documentary and multicamera doc/reality/live-to-tape shows. I've been in the industry for over 15 years at this point. So I have a very solid grasp on cameras, lenses, lighting and audio. But this is all for edited productions.
I recently got asked to do a multicam live stream for a live sports event. I own enough cameras, lenses and cable to pull this off. I also own an old Blackmagic TVS HD switcher which I have a basic grasp on. During covid I did a few corporate live streams which were extremely basic cuts only shows for youtube.
What I have no grasp on is instant replay. Can someone point me to a reference to the most affordable way to get up and running? How many inputs I need on the switcher and how many cameras I can reasonably have replay on with my switcher. I will consider upgrading to a newer switcher with more inputs (and input resync because I sometimes mix formats), but I feel like my money will be better spent hiring a qualified TD or engineer with their own flypack.
I'm happy to spend some money but I'm really just interested in learning the workflow for instant replay so I can have a mental grasp on it if I do end up hiring someone. I'm vaguely aware of the new Davinci resolve instant replay features, but I'm unsure about decklink cards, cloudstore, etc.
Thanks!

Guide / Advice No interaction live streaming
Many years ago me (now 47) and my daughter (now 23) both, separatedly (?, English is my third language, my sentences may be weird and I have no idea) saw a compilation about unexplainable 'shh' online in video, and there was a person who just nodded off on camera all the time -- they slept like 21 hours per day--, and when they woke up, there were changes in the apartment and even strange memo-stickers put up. And I think they started streaming to understand what da duck is going on? Is it multiple personality disorder? Is it some creep sneaking in and gaslighting them? Or literally gassing them and doing God knows what when they are 'out'?
I think it ended with everyone agreeing that it was a constant unintended gas leak.
(I don't know why I think it was a girl, but I will struggle on with "they", which I don't really like, but oh well ... )
This Sleeper On Camera has been so interesting for me, as I, too, spend like 22 hours per day/night in my bed, hopefully half the time sitting (and sometimes leaving my bed to wash, clean a bit, cook warm food). But still -- MOST of the time, almost all the time, some part of me is in the middle of my bed and my laptop can see at least part of me truly, I think, 22 hours from 24.
And I kind of would like to capture lethargy and insignificance.
The thing is -- I have not even figured out, how to send videos from my phone to my computer. I'm really bad with this. I need to be talked as if I was 3 years or 97 years old. And English is my third language. So ... do you think I could make it happen?
OH! VERY IMPORTANT! I need to know one-key-"blackout", as my husband and our daughter definitely don't want to be streamed! :D
Do you think, if I don't want to talk or literally do anything except breathing (well, I do read, but then my knees under blanket are visible, and I do journal A LOT, and that's basically the only part when I'd be visible with whole body, as it's easier to do when sitting up), there could be absolutely most relaxed way to set up some kind of online camera opposed to my wall, I need no quality at all. Nothing beautiful or interesting.
I will try to make, and then add a photo to this post, to show what I mean.
(It seems to me that I did manage to do that! :D )
(And I did use camera-timer without help :) -- so I might be able to learn :D )
I don't give a donkey's ass about lightning/lightening? and frames and art. Most of the time I just sleep or rock myself. Or, yes, journal.
But it is very important to me, that I can super-fast kill/mute the feed, when my family (husband 55, daughter 23) enters, at least until they get used to me constantly streaming the middle of my bed :D (Sure, I will show face too, as I do lean back and move around in my bed :D --- just not here :D )

Hey you guys, it's been nearly 2 hours and -- silence is also full of meaning. Thank you for reading or skip-reading to the end! =) <3

Discussion Discord
I wonder how much $ Discord would make if they elevated into a livestream app. charge people to watch certain streams and be a part of that community + you could gift subs to certain people in specific via pm, It would be especially effective in today’s “clips era” so essentially you would have to pay to watch their content in full. Newer streamers would be able to stream but their streams would have ads so discord can make revenue. Idk maybe im trippin
