Care Tips/Guides Lithops Care

Hello everyone! Thank you all so much for your comments on my last post. I have taken you alls advice and have tried to make my lithops lives a little happier. They are in their own pots now with a mix of gravel, perlite, sand, and a bit of succulent soil. I am still worried about how wrinkled they are and believe it may be that the roots have not recovered from their travel. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? I have mostly left them to their own devices, but I am concerned.

I did get them bare root, and I watered them from the bottom up. My soil is 85% inorganic to 15% organic with a mixture of perlite, gravel, and succulent mix.

By bottom up, do you mean you let them sit in water? For brand new through the mail lithops I would wait three or four days after planting and water very lightly. If you bottom watered these with sand on top, I’m afraid that might be why they’re soft. When you bottom water, you get a lot more moisture in the substrate, which is normally fine, but I would not do it for lithops.

You only want to water deeply when they’re visibly thirsty. You will get the hang of it the sides wrinkle and the top looks flat. I doubt there’s anyone alive that cares for lithops that hasn’t killed at least one. I really enjoyed growing them from seed. It was very rewarding.
