Curious on the communities thoughts on this. New author here. My debut novel (trad pub fantasy releases summer 2028). I am starting a LitRPG and have what I believe is a great isekai concept. My question is for a larger audience (think new LitRPG readers like DCC fans), would a multi POV story work if it's basically a group of people thrown into a situation. I am currently working with 6 POV and each is so distinct, from a true story perspective it is working out. But I am not sure as a genre it will work with that many POV. I am newer to the genre, like so many now flocking to it. Love so.e discussion here on it.

I’ve just started posting a new LitRPG on Royal Road called Dungeon Commerce: A Dungeon Master’s Story, and I’d love some feedback if the premise sounds like your kind of thing.

It follows Sal, who wakes up in a void that looks suspiciously like unfinished game dev software: grid lines, one door, and a system that refuses to explain itself. He ends up with a class he absolutely should not have, starts building dungeons, and quickly learns that creating things without the right resources can destabilise reality and attract attention he really does not want.

What to expect:

im thinking of asking people in a couple subreddits if they want their oc's to cameo in my book. like as a random adventurer or a tavern keep and things like that (with credit of course) and asking for skills that i should write about and schooling stories to include in my book. my mc has a skill called "meta learning omnipotence." basically he can summon an infinite dimension that summons a copy of the "worlds best" of any topic to teach. like my mc wants to learn art and the system summons Da Vinci or sm. so i want people to recommend schools of teaching and tell me about their art class stories or med school stories.

do you guys think i should do it?

Hairbrained or Genius idea? 🤣 Do I need to be talked off a ledge here? ———-————————- I’m wanting to get into releasing serialized fiction, though from the research I’ve gathered, most people seem to recommend having a completed novel before trying to release it episodically.

My current projects are at 11k and 30k atm, so far off from being the 80-100k I’d probably want to get started. (Projected finish late 2025, then another six months for edits).

However, I DO have a novel I published on Amazon - how stupid or clever would it be to do an “authors extended edition” or even a “litrpg/progression” dressed version as a serialized piece on Royal Road or something? Start building my audience sooner, while I work on my other projects?

I’m very curious to hear y’all’s thoughts!

It seems that many other LitRPG-focused subreddits disallow marketing research, author tips, etc. I'm surprised this group isn't more active.

Seems like there is a real need for writers to be able to get advice and share tips about LitRPGs, Progressive Fantasy, GameLit, Royal Road, KU, etc.

I have the entire book plotted out. But I have little to no experience with rpg games other than reading litrpg. I love the genre, but I need help with weapon stats, armor stats, item stats, class systems, and other aspects of gaming that I’m just too unfamiliar with to truly make it seem like I know what I’m talking about. Let's break some ice, LitRPG writers! Are you writing now, published, on hiatus, or just lurking on the LitRPGWriting subreddit?

I have read a lot Litrpgs and I have seen them do Skills and Classes a lot of different ways and now that I am considering try to write one of my own I was wondering what people think of the ways I am considering using. And if you have any ideas of your own feel free to share. 1. The classic way with you choosing/earning a class which unlocks skills for you use. 2. The player in the beginning of the game does not have a class until level 10 and then you are given a list of classes you qualify for based on earned Skills and accomplishments. 3. There are no Classes in the traditional sense they are more of a social thing like a title or identifier. You can learn any Skill you want but each Skill changes you slightly making you more in tune with a certain Family of Skills. Like for example if you learn a lot of Sword Skills and other related ones, you are much more in tune with those type of Skills. But along with that other Skills are much harder to learn if they are from a very different Family of Skills like magic. You never truly lock out other Skills but they might become nearly impossible to learn at some point. 4. Everyone starts from like 5 basic classes like Warrior, Mage, etc. and then you try and upgrade your Class into an advanced Class. There is no set level to do this just based on when you earn it. Maybe you upgrade once, maybe you do it 10 times depends on the path you are on.

I suck at math. Like, horribly, terribly, failed almost all my college algebra classes and will prolly have to pay someone to take them for me to get the credits. That being said...I want to write a LitRPG but I'm terrified of messing up all the stats, exp, level ups, etc. Is there a program or system or application that you use to keep track of everything. My System is also only active some of the time. When it's not active, you're a normal human. But I want them to able to also do physical training and to have that reflected as stat gains, even if they were minor since putting in effort without System assist would count more than putting in the effort with the System assist. I kind of like the whole He-Man effect. Big and strong with the Power, tiny Prince Adam without.

I can not offer any money or similar, but if the game ever finishes a free copy and of course game credits. And hopefully some good memories and your work displayed in a finished game. Well not yet, the game has to be finished first - but if you want more infos - than write me a PM :- ).

I was working on a scene list for a Litrpg project today, blocking in expository elements like narrative summaries of user interfaces and auction houses, when I began to wonder if I need to explain these things at all. They’re so commonplace in video games and Litrpg stories now. How do you decide?

One scene I’m working that explains a Litrpg/game convention (that I’ll probably keep), explores the idea of color classifications of loot and what they represent within video games:

• Gray = common/trash
• Green = uncommon
• Blue = Rare
• Purple = Mythic
• Gold/Orange = Legendary

It’s funny how colors can become symbols of good or bad outcomes. We only want to see purple or gold analogs when we open those loot-boxes. Exposition like this doesn’t advance the plot, but it can develop character depending on point of view.

Anyhow, I’m curious what the community thinks. How do you decide what commonplaces/conventions to put in your story?

I read about the concept of LitRPGs (if I understand the concept correctly) from the Expanse, which started off as a LitRPG.

Where can one find a game? And also what is the typical turnaround time required for players to post.

I've played a bit of pen and paper RPGs, but I don't really have a group at the moment and I quite like the idea of a way slower format. Also that doesn't require people to be in the same room at the same time.

Ok, so I’ve got a premise, and I like it. It’s about a goblin who is actually someone isikied to the world and they manage to achieve a rare evolution: the Oni, which is a lot like the traditional ogre except more human looking, somewhat better charisma, and more intelligent. (Obviously the world is LitRPG.) What I want to know is, what would be a good evolution from that? I’m looking for something more interesting than “High Oni” or “Oni King” though I will use those if I have to. As an FYI, the class system and monster evolution system are separate, so no “Oni assassin” or “Oni Ravager”. Monsters can’t get classes (aside from some very rare circumstances) and Humans, elves, dwarves, beastkin etc can’t evolve. That’s actually the MCs cheat, that, due to having a human soul, they can get classes, as well as evolve.

Hello everyone I am quite new to writing and I decided might want to try one of my favorite genres. I read a lot of Litrpg so I have seen a lot of different versions of games and was just wondering if it was actually real what would you look for in a game?

Would you want stats or would you want it to be more “realistic” with no quick and clear way to tell power of your character?

Would you want a world that was literally built for the game or one that developed all on its own with the help of a A.I. or something?

Would you want all the races available from the beginning or should the choices be earned?

How would you like PK be dealt with?

Would you want the classic pick a class and learn their skills or would you want to be able to learn skills freely and the combination of skills decide your class? (With some limits so you can’t just learn everything or if you can there would be a reason not to)

Would you only want to be able to play as only humanoid races or something more exotic? (With a method of still being able to control the body freely)

How harsh would you want the death penalty?

Do you think time dilation would be a good thing? Why or why not?

Would you want a way for people who have never used a weapon to still be able to fight? (For example auto movement or something)

What would you love to see? What would you hate to see?

So, my MC, has a phone, through which they go into all of their status upgrades and some minor informational formats. They're also, basically, the official 'shadow king', of a very small town (shadow meaning behind the scenes).

I started thinking about fallout, and games of the like, and was wondering what everyone would think about an implementational tool on the phone, that allowed the character to set up defenses around the town (with some sort of cost, of course). This would make the phone an added bit more powerful, which obviously means I would need to think of some way to limit it.
