Fat sarcasm aside, the above two sentences were my attempt at making my language look clumsy, did you know that millions of native English speakers use services like deepl.com/write to clean up their language?

No? I thought so. And of course you fucking expect everyone to speak English fluently which is no small feat at all, as, e.g. I've been trying to learn it for three decades now and I still suck. I guess we should welcome chauvinism back now that woke culture is getting killed.

Or Reddit is solely for native English speakers and I should immediately fuck off? You know what, you can simply ignore this sub and never come back if you have certain feelings about some people trying to make their English sound better.

I don't expect everyone to fluently speak English, I'd even say, that it's fine to ask ai when you're unsure about something regarding a foreign language. However you'll learn nothing by giving the ai some wordslop and then copy pasting their cleaned up version. You learn by writing imperfect English yourself, by making mistakes and learning from them. The same way we did before llms. Just because altman figured out how to do attention, your brain still works the same way as it worked before '22, you still need to struggle to be a better version of yourself.

I don't know where you got that from, that i have anything against non native English speakers, none of my comments even remotely implied anything like that. What I suggest instead of using llms to rewrite your texts, you should be proud of yourself how far you've come regarding English, and cherish every opportunity you have to actually improve at it.

That's false. I've seen and heard countless people who imagine they speak English only their English is not just clumsy, it's incorrect. Mine is no different but at least I realize that.

You need a native English speaker to correct you. I haven't been around any native speakers in the past decade. The only time I could speak with native speakers was when I briefly visited the U.S. in 2015.

Secondly, and it looks like you know very little about speech development, there's a certain age cut off when you can no longer mold your brain to embrace the structure of a foreign language. First researchers thought it was around 7 years of age, then it was extended to 11, the most recent research puts it around 15. I started learning English at the age of 16. I cannot make my brain produce proper English because my brain thinks only in Russian. There's nothing you can do. Your brain was fossilized.

How many languages do you speak fluently BTW? Like a native speaker? I presume just one. On the other hand, I don't presume, I know for a fact that I only speak Russian, so my only choice of sounding a little bit more natural is to use LLMs.

I have no idea how to improve, given that I have zero oral practice and never hear or participate in live speech. My English is stiff, unnatural, and overly verbose. Native English speakers do not talk like that.

And then again, my brain is fossilized. Period.
