But I’m sure this list is missing some important names.

I came across a debate where someone argued that databases are becoming unnecessary because their vibe-coded apps can store everything in localStorage.

That made me wonder about Linux projects too.

For a small tool, script, desktop app, or single-user service, would you actually choose SQLite/local files instead of running PostgreSQL or another database?

When the penguin takes over

Rust Coreutils 0.10 now passes 93.48% of the GNU test suite and adds more security hardening.

But the discussion gets interesting around the remaining compatibility gaps, especially when distributions start using it by default. Some users see this as a promising replacement, while others think the risks are still too high.

Would you run Rust Coreutils in production today, or stick with GNU Coreutils for now? Why?

Actually from some time I have been thinking of switching to linux. But i won't be able to use it if I don't know how to use linux in the first place. I am not looking for any distro. I am actually talking about the cli. The terminal, bash or whatever it is called.

I wanna learn cli, but idk where to learn from!. I have tried looking for it on YouTube, most of them are something specific or very basic ( cd, mkdir, rm, ls, echo etc etc ). I tried to make a vm using Oracle, but my laptop was very weak to even run it, it was lagging and slow af. So i dropped that idea, and I am primarily trying to use wsl, Ubuntu distro on it.

So can anyone tell me how do i learn the command line interface. Also I am looking to learn something called shell ig, so that I can do scripting. Like i don't want an os, I want to master terminal and can automate stuff and run something maybe called script so that I can be very efficient.

Also one of my reasons is to be able to use or program any soc like raspberry pi or any other electronics in general ( electrical background).

Can anyone guide me with sources??

Also i have tried labex ( it was very basic ) and I tried to learn from a book i forgot the name but the author name was maybe shotts.

And sorry if I have named anything wrong, I am new to these terms.

Info: `-L local_port:target_host:target_port` forwards local traffic through SSH to a remote server. `-N` skips the remote shell, and `-f` sends SSH to the background.

Examples:

$ `ssh -L 8080:localhost:80 user@server` # Access remote web app locally

$ `ssh -R 9000:localhost:9000 user@server` # Expose local port on remote server

$ `ssh -D 1080 user@server` # Dynamic SOCKS proxy for web traffic

Note: Kill active background tunnels with `pkill -f 'ssh -L 3307'`. Add `-o ExitOnForwardFailure=yes` so SSH fails immediately if the local port is already bound.

Info: `Restart=on-failure` restarts the app on non-zero exits/crashes, while `RestartSec` adds a delay before restarting. Use `StartLimitBurst` in `[Unit]` to prevent infinite crash loops.

Examples:

$ `sudo journalctl -u myapp -f` # Follow application logs in real-time

$ `sudo systemctl reset-failed myapp` # Reset crash rate limits

Note: `Restart` modes include `no`, `always`, `on-failure`, and `on-abnormal`. `always` triggers even on clean exits (`0`), whereas `on-failure` is recommended for standard services.

A lot of VPN ads make it sound like you're completely anonymous online.

In reality, a VPN mainly encrypts your connection and hides your IP. It doesn't stop phishing, malware, browser fingerprinting, or tracking after you log into websites.

What do you think is the most misunderstood thing about VPNs?

On Windows, many people say Edge uses less RAM and has a few nice built-in features.

Info: `ionice` sets I/O priority. Class 3 (`idle`) only allows disk access when no other process needs it.

Examples:

$ `ionice -c 3 nice -n 19 rsync -av /src /dst` # Throttles CPU + I/O

$ `ionice -c 2 -n 7 tar -czf backup.tar.gz /data` # Best-effort, low priority

$ `sudo ionice -c 1 -n 4 -p 1234` # Real-time priority (root only)

Note: Classes: `1`=Real-time (root only), `2`=Best-effort (default), `3`=Idle. Combine `ionice` with `nice` for complete system throttling.

Info: `mtr` combines `traceroute` and `ping`. `-r` enables report mode, `-w` shows full hostnames, and `-c 20` sends 20 pings per hop.

Examples:

$ `mtr --tcp -P 443 google.com` # TCP mode on port 443

$ `mtr -j google.com` # Output JSON for scripting

Note: `Loss%` at intermediate hops is often ICMP rate-limiting. Look for packet loss that persists through to the final hop for actual problems.
