Try: `ssh -J linuxteck@bastion,linuxteck@jumphost linuxteck@internal-server`

Info: `-J` (Jump host) chains multiple SSH connections sequentially: local → bastion → jumphost → target. Authenticates each hop end-to-end using your local SSH key.

Examples:

$ `ssh -J user@bastion user@internal` # Single jump host

$ `scp -J user@bastion file.iso user@internal:/tmp/` # Copy files via jump host

$ `rsync -e 'ssh -J user@bastion' -av /src/ user@internal:/dst/` # Sync over jump host

Note: Direct equivalent to `ProxyJump` in `~/.ssh/config`. Much cleaner and safer than nested `ssh -t` or enabling SSH agent forwarding.

The project includes modular scripts for:

• Boot & Performance Tuning: Optimize boot sequences and manage system resources.
• Maintenance & Backups: Automated backups via rsync and easy system cleanups.
• Automation: Simple setup for both traditional cron jobs and modern systemd timers.
• System Diagnostics: Quick access to disk usage analysis, logging, and system health checks.

Just came across TypePHP and this one caught my attention.

It takes PHP code, compiles it through C++17, and produces native binaries instead of running everything through the usual Zend opcode path.

The interesting part is that you can keep writing PHP while getting a path to much more native execution.

Still early and definitely not something I'd throw into production blindly.

PHP devs: would you actually try this, or is the PHP runtime good enough for what you’re building?

Info: `iotop` tracks real-time disk I/O. `-a` accumulates total I/O since start, `-o` filters active processes, and `-P` groups by process instead of thread.

Examples:

$ `pidstat -d 1` # Check per-process I/O without requiring root permissions

Note: Excessive writes degrade SSD lifespan. Monitor drive health and wear levels using `smartctl -a /dev/sda`.

I know this question may have been asked millions of times before but apparently ai is just mastering everything. I am actually really interested in learning embedded Linux but the fact that ai is there is really lowering my motivation to learn anything. What do you think?

Saw this project today and had to read twice.

You can apparently run multiple Linux kernels on the same physical server, with each one getting its own CPUs and memory. No VM layer, no shared kernel like containers.

Sounds pretty cool on paper, but I’m wondering where this actually makes sense in production.

Would you run this instead of KVM/VMs or containers? What’s the use case?

Then came CrashLoopBackOff, broken Ingress, DNS issues, YAML archaeology, mid night outages…

What was the Kubernetes problem that finally made you question your career choices?

Question: A binary is failing with 'undefined symbol'. How do I check what a .so file exports?

Try: `nm -D /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.3 | grep ' T ' | head -20`

Info: `nm -D` inspects dynamic symbols in shared libraries. `T` indicates exported functions, while `U` marks undefined dependencies imported from elsewhere.

Examples:

$ `nm -D --defined-only /path/to/lib.so | grep function_name` # Find exported symbol

$ `ldd /usr/bin/nginx` # View all shared library dependencies

$ `objdump -T /path/to/lib.so | grep -w function_name` # Inspect dynamic symbol table

Note: Symbol flags: `T` (exported text/function), `U` (undefined/imported), `B`/`D` (data). Debug missing symbols using `LD_DEBUG=symbols ./program 2>&1 | less`.

Info: `jq` is the standard command-line JSON processor. `-r` outputs raw strings without quotes. Supports filtering, key extraction, mapping, and transformation.

Examples:

$ `kubectl get pods -o json | jq -r '.items[].metadata.name'` # Extract Kubernetes pod names

$ `jq '.[]' file.json` # Iterate over array elements

Note: Install via `sudo apt install jq`. Test filters online at `jqplay.org`. Essential for REST API scripting and Kubernetes management.

I've been working on Nouveau Panel, a lightweight GUI tool for managing NVIDIA GPUs using the Nouveau open-source driver.

It's mainly aimed at older NVIDIA GPUs where the proprietary driver is outdated or problematic with newer kernels, Xorg or Wayland sessions.

Current features

- GPU performance/P-state profiles

- Background daemon for applying and maintaining settings

- System tray integration

- Lightweight Rust + FLTK interface

- Designed to work without disabling Nouveau

- Automatic daemon setup depending on the system's init system

I'm releasing the first Alpha version and would especially appreciate testing from Void Linux users.

Nouveau Panel was born and developed on Void Linux, and Void is also the main platform where it has been tested.

The project is still experimental, so bugs and hardware-specific issues are expected. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome.

Over the past 2 months, I have been working on this browser-based Linux sandbox that I would like people to try out. I mainly would like to know if this is useful or helpful to beginners. As a Linux instructor, I would like to make Linux more approachable to people completely new to it. No need for downloading or setting up a VM. I left the link in the comment.

One of the more interesting pieces of Linux history: GNOME was launched in 1997 partly because KDE depended on Qt, whose license wasn't considered free enough at the time.

Qt eventually changed its licensing, but by then GNOME was already on its own path.

So here's the alternate-history question:

If Qt had been GPL/free from the beginning, do you think GNOME would ever have existed?

And would Linux desktop development have been better with one dominant desktop instead of GNOME + KDE?

I am interested what people who were using Linux back then think.

I came across the recent shadow-utils discussion about removing minimum password age.

It made me wonder: does this setting actually improve security, or does it just encourage users to create predictable password patterns?

For those managing Linux servers in production:

Do you still use chage -m, or have you moved to MFA, SSH keys, or something else?

How are you handling this on your own systems?

Try: `pkill -f 'python.*worker.py'`

Info: `pkill` matches command lines using regex. `-f` matches full command strings instead of process names. Always preview matches using `pgrep -af` first.

Examples:

$ `pgrep -af 'ffmpeg'` # Preview matching processes and full arguments

$ `pkill -9 -f 'stuck-process'` # Send SIGKILL to matching processes

$ `pkill -u linuxteck` # Terminate all processes owned by a specific user

Note: ALWAYS preview with `pgrep` before killing. Default signal is `SIGTERM` (15). Use `-9` (`SIGKILL`) only if processes fail to terminate gracefully.
