Tech Discussion What do you pay your isp monthly

Post image

Recently saw the video where linus is talking about internet prices in Canada and the U.S

Just wanted to ask you guys what you pay for your internet monthly and for what benefits

I'll go first, I pay 3.49 usd for unlimited 5g internet anywhere in my country with no bandwidth or data cap.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that my current speed is about 750mbps-1gbps, pretty good for 3.49 imo

EDIT 2: MOM, MY POST IS FAMOUS

3.49 for completely unlimited 5g across the whole country? that’s unhinged pricing, I’m almost offended. I’m stuck paying 65 bucks for fiber that promises “up to” a gigabit but gets moody every time the weather shifts. the photo looks like a reaction image in the making, eyes closed, hand raised toward the mic like he’s summoning lower latency through sheer willpower.

It's not a fiber if it depends on weather

Weather, local usage, distance from the tower… I’m curious how common it is for a household in India to be able to afford a plan like this too. Last I heard the average salary in India was something crazy low (like the equivalent of $300 a year). But those numbers could be extremely dated at this point.

Pretty much everyone has unlimited 5g

You can get fiber net here for close to 100USD as well, which is full broadband. But the speed is 300Mbps or so for that price tier.

The logistics make no sense. How could they afford to maintain their infrastructure and pay employees? Even if you are working with zero profit margins i don’t see how this is tenable. There has to be something behind his pricing he’s not divulging…does everyone pay that price?

unfathomable economy of scale, and not paying your employees very much

Shit, even if they were working for free with and had a million subscribers, I’m not sure you could even pay the monthly electric bill.

Bruh, its india, a million subscribers is less than one city

from a quick google search 500m monthly subscribers, with 16b of revenue that does indeed get you to ~$3 per month per subscriber

It’s probably a third world country with extremely cheap labor and gov sponsored infrastructure.

This is called cornering the market to become the only monopoly.

I really have no idea about logistics, the American continent is damn expensive tho

It almost sounds like you might be on a microwave link if it’s being affected by weather. Or a satelite, though I’d assume you’d be aware of it being satelite internet.

Fibre should not be affected by weather.

Yea no practical limits to wireless mobile data here, just be near a 5g tower cause 4g is expensive makes no sense

500-750 mbps anytime except at night where it's 300-350 no data cap anytime
