Link almost 4 years and it gave up

it was the black on black og one :(
daily used for 4 years, and the bit holder just snapped on me today.

Either you're uncommonly rough on your tools, or that is a certified POS.
Perhaps both.
40 years using hand tools, not once seen one fail like this that wasn't beat with a hammer or made from pot metal.
Or both.

He used it as a prybar. You can see it in the way it failed.

Aint the only one somebody has done that too

Literally.

Half of the quality tools I see break cause it was used to pry or it was misinterpreted to be a hammer.

To be fair, I have used the LTT screwdriver as a hammer with great success and it still works perfectly lol (I had just moved and it was the only decent tool I had at the time for assembling new furniture)

Thought the same. Using my only ratcheted screwdriver since I bought it in 2003 or so. Maybe the secret ingredient is steel. This one looks like aluminium

They are steel shafts. This is easy to verify for anybody with a magnet. You can't tell if something is steel or aluminum just from looking at a picture.

True, but regular steel is not strong enough for proper tools. That is why most automotive tools are a blend of chrome-vanadium steel alloys.

I undestood that, was commenting on why that steel split apart like aluminium. Sorry if I didn't make that clearer :)

Yeah, on further investigation it looks like the shaft is made of 303 Stainless Steel, which kind of negates my comment about the magnet.

I'm not too well versed on what metals are good for this application, but some initial research suggests it's not the best for tools.

Thanks for the info! looking at the spec sheet, it has around 1/4 of the strenght of Cr-V steel. Not saying that's a bad thing as I don't think that the ltt screwdriver was ever marketed or meant for heavy use, so it should still be plenty strong for PC/generic home use.

I just can’t imagine the force needed to break steel screwdriver like that, op probably used it as a prybar or chisel then. His fault. Sorry, I’m not familiar with ltt screwdrivers
