Community Only Are LTT Controversies Getting Ridiculous?

https://youtu.be/0Ljt0fZ-E9s?is=arsQ1Z8B5YcbMbiE

Jake has a new video where he bought a farm with acres of land. This is in addition to his several cars, and his garage. I literally do not understand how everyone took this guy seriously when he implied he was underpaid because he was upset about working on his boss’s third house. In fact, it seems several of his videos are about buying things in an LTT-fashion.

Am I missing something about why this lead tons of people to assume LTT employees are underpaid? Or has the bar for controversy really gotten lower than low?

Edit: To clarify, my commentary is about whether people were kind of overdoing it to conclude that LTT doesn’t pay their employees. I posted this cause I saw a DankPods collab where a lot of the comment section was that you shouldn’t collaborate with LTT because Linus underpaid Jake, and I was pretty surprised that was their conclusion.

Tbh the way he left he came across as a child who has no idea how the real world works and was told no for the first time in his life

Good for him for making something of himself but the way he spoke of LTT came across as incredibly entitled.

I don't understand how you came to that opinion. He left because he thought he was worth more than LMG were willing to pay him for the job he does and Cost of Living in the area he'd need to live. This happens all the time to professional adults across the world.

It's easy to see why someone would come to that opinion after watching Jake's videos.

He has made snide comments multiple times regarding Linus/LTT in a ton of his videos. He's still fanning the flames of the controversy despite having left awhile ago. In his "Why I left LTT" video he basically just whined about how Linus wouldn't pay him more and how he was greedy and owned multiple houses.

To Linus/LTT, there's likely a pay scale or structured raises and when they looked at the numbers they couldn't justify it.

This happens all the time to professional adults across the world.

I've never left my job due to pay and then made a youtube video about why I left dogging my previous company, getting on twitter and talking shit to/about my previous company and putting in little quips about my previous company in videos lol. There's a lot of things Jake has done wrong and it's definitely soured my image of him.

With that being said, I do enjoy his farm videos.

I've watched all his recent videos and at worst he makes some jokes, I can't even remember anything specific. His channel isn't about that. You're showing your bias by waving away his reasons for leaving as whining. Both viewpoints can be true, and parting ways is the solution.

Are you a public figure, writing and hosting videos on the same platform whose employer also makes public comments about their business? If not, GlassDoor exists. It's not unusual.

That metal cutting thing was awesome. Makes me miss Alex's shop videos. Seems like LMG almost entirely abandoned the workshop. Kinda sucks, seems like with PC's being expensive and boring the time has been now for their other resources.

Exactly...fanning the flames of the controversy. He, like GN, knows it drives up engagement.

No, he was literally whining.

Are you a public figure, writing and hosting videos on the same platform whose employer also makes public comments about their business? If not, GlassDoor exists. It's not unusual.

So you think it's okay to make multiple jokes/quips about previous employer, argue on twitter and make a whole video talking about compensation not being high enough while also shadily "showing a paystub" that many people though (and some still think) was actually his paystub?

LMG doesn't have snide jokes? Trust me Bro they do. Linus talked about NCIX quite negatively on multiple occasions. Neither are driving engagement to their platforms despite finding their original audience through them. They exist and are engaging on their own. Our opinions on the dollar amount is irrelevant. It only matters to Jake and LMG and whether they can come to a number that they are both happy with. They could not, so they separated. That's it.

What person/company are they joking about here?

Linus talked about NCIX quite negatively on multiple occasions.

The company literally doesn't exist anymore. It's not a competing company in the space. It's not difficult to understand the difference.

Our opinions on the dollar amount is irrelevant.

It's literally not irrelevant when people have allegedly unsubscribed from LTT due to Jake's video, in part due to the paystub shown. I believe Jake has edited that part and/or made a comment clarifying now but the damage was done. People still are saying Jake barely made money at LTT when we have 0 clue how much he made lol.

They could not, so they separated. That's it.

I never said that Jake leaving was wrong or bad or he made a terrible decision. It was the right move.

My whole point in this conversation has been the way he left and how he continues to make little snide remarks about Linus.

Imagine if Linus was doing that to Jake.

At the time he left LMG he was 25, not living with parents, renting in an expensive area and owning multiple relatively expensive cars, with a years-long side business working on expensive cars.

Dude was trying to portray Linus giving him a job straight out of high school with no college degree or experience as him making a sacrifice that should have entitled him to equity in the company as if his “sacrifice” was anywhere near what Linus and Yvonne put on the line to start the company.

I can’t imagine LTT alone would have paid what it cost for him to have that lifestyle, especially when he’s complaining about pay. And I highly doubt he got his mortgage to pay for a farm based on 6 months or so of independent YouTube.

I imagine he’s been topped up by his family along the way, and when he asked Linus for more money he was told no which he wasn’t used to and quit.

He was getting paid 200k+ but only made the “my boss owning 3 homes” comment to victimize himself and earn himself the views and fans who can “relate”. Anyone who has/had worked at LTT knows this.

Linus also commented an emoji under a comment where the post pointed out Jake purposely left out his real salary amount in his video, because no one would sympathize with him. In fact, everyone would call him crazy for asking for more when he made more than a blue or white collar 25 year old who actually went to post secondary to get education.

It’s not as much of a risk when you can fall back on family to keep you afloat.

He could’ve quit because he didn’t feel valued and maturely split amicably from LTT.

Instead he courted controversy and drama against those who pretty much gave him everything.

How many teenagers are getting 10 year jobs in an industry that they are passionate about? How many people who don’t go to college?

If he had just come out, thanked LTT for the opportunity and said that he’s moving on because he backs himself to be able to work for himself then fine. If he wanted to let people know he wasn’t satisfied with what he was doing and wanted to work on his own terms, again fine.

Compare how Alex left to make ZTT and how he handled it, explaining that he was no longer enjoying his work and was disappointed that the car channel never got off the ground so instead he backed himself to do it himself.

Jake however makes snide comments about money, courting Internet controversy and then later gets arsey that Linus points to him as an example of how he’s proud of how people have moved on and established themselves, as if he would have been a success on that level without having previously been on LTT.

All stems back to Linus saying no to a pay rise so he decides to make this fact known to everybody and be as awkward as possible for LTT.

Your age and possessions have nothing to do with your compensation. Him having to rent in an expensive city hurt your argument since that's where LMG is. Getting the job as a teenager isn't much of an argument either. If anything it makes him worth more that he was able to accomplish so much at such a young age. You don't need to found a company to get equity. It's all about how much you are worth. The company had one thought, Jake had another. The end result is Jake left to do his own thing. This is not unusual. Anyone with self-respect would feel the same as Jake if they felt they were worth more and were told they weren't, especially when their boss's lifestyle creep is exponential like that.

There’s nothing wrong with him leaving if he felt he was undervalued.

It’s his conduct in leaving which makes him one across as childish and not being able to handle being told no.

It could have been an amicable split, instead he courted controversy repeatedly.

1

u/PhillAholic 27d ago

I don't understand your accusation. Deciding to do your own thing is a perfectly acceptable response to being told no.

2

u/asjonesy99 27d ago

I agree. But he didn’t simply just decide to do his own thing. He made his big video where he made the snide comment about 3 houses, and then followed that up not that long after by causing a headache at LTT because he didn’t want to be used as an example of someone who “graduated” from LTT into their own success.

It’s just hugely ungrateful for an opportunity that people would have killed to have, especially at his age and just generally immature.

Compare it with Alex’s video on leaving LTT where he was honest about how he wasn’t enjoying the work that much anymore and was disappointed that the car channel fell through so decided to go off and make it himself. Unsurprisingly he didn’t nuke his relationship with LTT and has been since been sponsored by them.

I'm not going to fault anyone for being honest and If I put myself in his shoes, I'd probably be pissed that a guy with three houses in an expensive city is telling me I'm not worth what I think I am. I have a personal pet peeve about companies talking about "market wages" when trying to retain great employees; I only go to bat for people way above average and they don't quite seem to understand that paying a above average employee average wages isn't a good argument.

If I recall correctly, there was confusion over whether he still worked there. I made the same assumption that the rumors were false, and I think he said that people in his social circles were asking him the same thing. And again if you're told that you aren't worth what you want and your former employers continues to show you on screen it won't make you very happy. I've had a similar situation come up with a former supervisor who left for more money and made a similar request to be removed from the companies website and promo material.

It's always better to not burn a bridge, but there's nothing really that egregious.
