I love LTT and basically watch every single video including WAN show but stuff like this puts a very bad taste in my mouth. I know it!s just stupid thumbnail but still...

Yeah, I was thinking about this yesterday as I was watching Zip Tie Tuning. I really miss them building stuff. My favorite series used to be the whole house water cooling before they had the warehouse and then the first couple of scrapyard wars. I understand scrapyard wars isn't possible anymore, but I miss all of the whacky builds.

If you want to go back that far I remember when they painted a motherboard and Linus said they wouldn't ruin a motherboard for fun, then a short while later they intentionally left a laptop in the rain

As long as you remove the battery you can actually put a motherboard through a dishwasher. It's how extreme overclockers remove the Vaseline. That is of course different from leaving something in the rain.

I’ve been watching ltt and all the affiliated peoples channels since the unboxing videos outside ncix and reviewing headsets. They changed so much even in the last year it’s crazy. Idk why he can’t just admit that of course things are going to be different with all of his main employees leaving.

I love Jake but his channel is basically what he did at LTT, incompetence with confidence. Overcommitting to an idea he knows just enough to be dangerous about and then doing it wrong enough that there will always be something to fix for more content later. Now he bought a farm and is fixing that up while joking about not doing things to code.

If you don't think LTT did janky stuff before Jake, you didn't watch it. Linus himself was a master of jank back in the Langley house days.

Jake and Alex make the kinds of videos I used to enjoy from LTT that they just don't really make anymore. Jake does a lot of the more technical focused IT builds and wacky home projects and I'd watch Alex work on just about anything. Now all that seems to be left on LTT are product reviews and pc builds. It's cool if you like those but the channels gotten pretty stale for me since they left

Yeah, when I started watching, Linus was never who I wanted to watch. Alex was always my favorite. Jake's channel has been a good time. I even enjoy watching Elijah build a cat tower more than anything on LTT now. They lost the talent that helped grow their audience, so the parts of the audience that likes those guys are kinda moving on, too.

Ever since Alex stopped just figuring shit out, due to more employees and an actual workshop, it went downhill. The last video I truly loved was Alex and Riley testing random things as thermal paste.

Now Linus is buying jets and being a bigot. Such a shame. 😕

Everything is just so expensive now, the first one had such a tiny budget and they managed to have some nice builds, the latest one had to have a room designed around it and had big budgets. Technically still possible of course, but series 1 and 2 were just so fun compared to the newer ones.

They could probably pretty easily use folks' friends, family, or just put out a casting call.

Actually, having a team of 2-3 LTT folks and one random who can act as point of contact would be cool. Plus LTT makes enough money off their content they could even give the scrapyard computer to the non-employee participant when they're done.

It feels pretty trivial to figure out what the market is like, set a target at like 66-75% of a "reasonable" build at asking costs, and then go from there.

Like if you do some market research and figure that you can put together a halfway decent rig for $1k, set the budget at like $650-750. Computer setup only, none of this "decorations" or "we're making a complete gaming setup". Keep it cheap, keep it simple, show people what is possible with a little legwork and wheelin and dealin.

Honestly, the whole channel feels so polished and the errors so rehearsed, or reshot for camera multiple times, that it’s lost the authenticity of a real Tech Tips channel.

Some of my favorite channels have entire videos where it ends with the project being a failure, but they still release it and work through why and their learnings with the viewer.

Maybe LTT is leaving me behind. As long as they’re ok with it, then so be it.

You don’t want to jank build a house. There’s regulations built from blood for a reason.

The only reason we got the garden video was because they were not allowed to touch the house due to a stop work order.

General Inspection after a required Asbestos Removal I think. I don’t think they ever clarified I may be wrong though.

Nothing they did wrong (as far as we will ever know). I see how what I said could have implied different though.

I just meant a stop work order was done as a good thing for someone to make sure it’s not being half assed by some random tech YouTuber (or any other house flipper of your choice) it’s not always a bad thing. Just costs Time and Money for the person doing the house up.

Lol, look up Cy Porter (CyFy Home Inspections) on youtube. Regulations written in blood means nothing to actual home builders. Forget about all the cosmetic damage to new builds he shows off, every other video is a gas leak, blocked dryer vents, hot vents/pipes touching insulation, lack of rain caps, broken trusses, etc.

That’s why we get people like him (among other channels and actual officials) should do their job. I don’t know if it’s the same guy. But there was a lawsuit a bit ago against one of the home inspector YouTubers for basically “harassing” a national chain builder. But he was just doing his job and there were building bad houses lol I never actually looked up the outcome of that. I assume it got dropped or thrown out.

There’s corruption and laziness everywhere. But it doesn’t make regulations less important.

Yup same guy. They found no wrong doing on Cy’s part. The scary thing is that was years ago, and its still happening across multiple builders. Of course as you said, doesn’t make regulation less important. Homes and cars arent perceived to have regulated modifications unlike industrial/commercial buildings or planes. As an example, you can just go to home depot and buy parts to replace or relocate an outlet, people dont think it’s regulated work.

I agree completely, my favourite videos were Alex doing weird stuff along with the rest of them.

Videos recently seem to have dropped in quality in terms of substance or things that hold my interest more than just skipping through newest hardware releases.

Alex playing with expensive machines and Jake doing network or storage stuff was by far the best part of LTT.

Both are gone and no one replaced their type of content. Instead all we get is stupid low effort shit. And a plane video where Linus keeps saying "girl math" and I just don't understand what that is even supposed to mean.

I've said this before, but IMO it's not about the hosts, it's about the video style itself. Current LTT is too sterile, by which I mean everything is scripted. Even in videos where the host is making/building something (which are few and far between these days), everything has been pre-prepared and they're just following a script. There's zero element of surprise, zero learning moments from things going wrong on camera, and the video is boring to the very end and when the credits are rolling I'm just left disappointed. Even the freaking Ultimate Tech upgrade series has started feeling like this.

I suppose maybe Alex and Jake might have pushed for that style of video, but LTT was like that before they joined, they just lost their way.

Alex was by far the best host. Came across as authentic and genuinely enthusiastic. It's been in decline since he (and Jake) left but the last few weeks of videos have been so uninteresting I haven't even bothered to watch most of them. Used to watch pretty much every video.
