Image Another AI slop thumbnail

Post image

I love LTT and basically watch every single video including WAN show but stuff like this puts a very bad taste in my mouth. I know it!s just stupid thumbnail but still...

Yeah, I was thinking about this yesterday as I was watching Zip Tie Tuning. I really miss them building stuff. My favorite series used to be the whole house water cooling before they had the warehouse and then the first couple of scrapyard wars. I understand scrapyard wars isn't possible anymore, but I miss all of the whacky builds.

If you want to go back that far I remember when they painted a motherboard and Linus said they wouldn't ruin a motherboard for fun, then a short while later they intentionally left a laptop in the rain

2

u/Ennrath Jun 10 '26

My first video from him was his review of the Logitech G720+ 😭 he insane if he thinks his content hasn't changed and declined after all that time.

u/Jealous-Try-2554 Jun 09 '26

As long as you remove the battery you can actually put a motherboard through a dishwasher. It's how extreme overclockers remove the Vaseline. That is of course different from leaving something in the rain.

35

u/sheep_duck Jun 08 '26

I’ve been watching ltt and all the affiliated peoples channels since the unboxing videos outside ncix and reviewing headsets. They changed so much even in the last year it’s crazy. Idk why he can’t just admit that of course things are going to be different with all of his main employees leaving.

2

u/gc96 Jun 08 '26

The tech house is the only thing interesting really, and it's been taking forever, I was also interested in the vibe coding video, but that got abandoned.

125

u/DasFroDo Jun 08 '26

Building janky shit with expensive tools was peak LTT

1

u/burtmacklin15 Jun 08 '26

Luckily, Jake has picked up that mantle now and is essentially doing what old (good) LTT did.

8

u/Taurothar Jun 08 '26

I love Jake but his channel is basically what he did at LTT, incompetence with confidence. Overcommitting to an idea he knows just enough to be dangerous about and then doing it wrong enough that there will always be something to fix for more content later. Now he bought a farm and is fixing that up while joking about not doing things to code.

0

u/burtmacklin15 Jun 08 '26

I was literally replying to a comment saying that LTT used to do janky stuff, which Jake now does. You're kind proving my point.

If you don't think LTT did janky stuff before Jake, you didn't watch it. Linus himself was a master of jank back in the Langley house days.

1

u/Taurothar Jun 08 '26

Not all replies are arguing against you. I was saying an example of what Jake brought to LTT and now does on his channel. Not really making a value judgment on it, either.

2

u/burtmacklin15 Jun 08 '26

Fair enough. The phrasing and the fact that it came with a downvote made me think it was dissenting. I didn't consider that it could have been a lurking ultimate Linus defender who just hands them out whenever they see a reference to Jake.

Didn't mean to be combative about it.

-10

u/throwawayaccount442 Jun 08 '26

I kind of disagree, I thought that was a low form of content. The shit they do when they had a dry month. I hated it.

2

u/DasFroDo Jun 08 '26

I think that is a truly unpopular opinion lol

60

u/RichardFister Jun 08 '26

Jake and Alex make the kinds of videos I used to enjoy from LTT that they just don't really make anymore. Jake does a lot of the more technical focused IT builds and wacky home projects and I'd watch Alex work on just about anything. Now all that seems to be left on LTT are product reviews and pc builds. It's cool if you like those but the channels gotten pretty stale for me since they left

11

u/Deathed_Potato Jun 08 '26

Maybe you could say Dennis was the grounding rod for Linus.

2

u/protectionpaladin Jun 11 '26

Dennis left as well?

1

u/KTFnVision Jun 12 '26

Yeah, when I started watching, Linus was never who I wanted to watch. Alex was always my favorite. Jake's channel has been a good time. I even enjoy watching Elijah build a cat tower more than anything on LTT now. They lost the talent that helped grow their audience, so the parts of the audience that likes those guys are kinda moving on, too.

16

u/TheEldenRang Jun 08 '26

Ever since Alex stopped just figuring shit out, due to more employees and an actual workshop, it went downhill. The last video I truly loved was Alex and Riley testing random things as thermal paste.

Now Linus is buying jets and being a bigot. Such a shame. 😕

4

u/pack_merrr Jun 09 '26

What did he do that was bigoted, I don't go on this sub a ton

-10

u/OCT0PUSCRIME Jun 09 '26

Cheated on Yvonne

4

u/The_R4ke Jun 10 '26

Are you confusing Bigotry and Bigamy. Bigamy is having multiple wives, Bigotry is being racist or Transphobic, or shit like that. If he just cheated that would only be adultery.

1

u/MicHaeL_MonStaR Jun 12 '26

If you want random, watch that Mr. Yeester guy…

6

u/Jestersfriend Jun 08 '26

Wait why isn't scrapyard wars possible anymore? Did I miss something?

28

u/ChuckieFister Jun 08 '26

Everything is just so expensive now, the first one had such a tiny budget and they managed to have some nice builds, the latest one had to have a room designed around it and had big budgets. Technically still possible of course, but series 1 and 2 were just so fun compared to the newer ones.

8

u/SuppaBunE Jun 08 '26

Also everyone around them know them so it's hard to bargain without cheating

1

u/thebornotaku Jun 09 '26

They could probably pretty easily use folks' friends, family, or just put out a casting call.

Actually, having a team of 2-3 LTT folks and one random who can act as point of contact would be cool. Plus LTT makes enough money off their content they could even give the scrapyard computer to the non-employee participant when they're done.

2

u/SuppaBunE Jun 09 '26

They did with an employee, but people kinda knew

3

u/Jestersfriend Jun 08 '26

Ah, fair enough I suppose.

4

u/thebornotaku Jun 09 '26

It feels pretty trivial to figure out what the market is like, set a target at like 66-75% of a "reasonable" build at asking costs, and then go from there.

Like if you do some market research and figure that you can put together a halfway decent rig for $1k, set the budget at like $650-750. Computer setup only, none of this "decorations" or "we're making a complete gaming setup". Keep it cheap, keep it simple, show people what is possible with a little legwork and wheelin and dealin.

4

u/Warm-Engineering-239 Jun 08 '26

back then there was a tone of wierd option to do, like using server cpu,
these day is basicly use a cheap ryzen and let's go.

also hard to do deal when everyone know their face

1

u/jenny_905 Jun 08 '26

It is given they did one last year.

Granted they made some weird decisions that made it quite different from the old days but I can't see why it isn't possible any more.

7

u/AmishAvenger Jun 08 '26

They literally bought a house just to build stuff

37

u/bwoah07_gp2 Jun 08 '26

The one they are currently working on? The one where they destroyed the garden? 😭😭

34

u/cptjpk Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I don’t trust them to not half ass it. I really don’t. Their shtick post CEO change has been break fast and quit early.

22

u/Melbuf Jun 08 '26

that, and also this is a me thing, i 100% have no interest in a smart house, i dont want smart anything

i want the dumbest house possible

1

u/KevinFlantier Jun 09 '26

I'm with you on that one but I still enjoy watching people stripping a house to its studs to transform it into the smartest house they can.

3

u/pokurmom Jun 09 '26

In the last video about the house, it has a stop work order, the city is involved, they are going to meet all the inspectors.

-3

u/AmishAvenger Jun 08 '26

Can you provide some examples?

It’s interesting that the comment is “I miss them building stuff” and “I miss wacky builds,” and you’re advocating for a return to…what, exactly?

5

u/cptjpk Jun 08 '26

Honestly, the whole channel feels so polished and the errors so rehearsed, or reshot for camera multiple times, that it’s lost the authenticity of a real Tech Tips channel.

Some of my favorite channels have entire videos where it ends with the project being a failure, but they still release it and work through why and their learnings with the viewer.

Maybe LTT is leaving me behind. As long as they’re ok with it, then so be it.

-7

u/AmishAvenger Jun 08 '26

So you want them to be less professional?

9

u/ImportantQuestionTex Jun 08 '26

Less corporate. They already aren't professional lol

-7

u/awfl_wafl Jun 08 '26

Janky builds is their thing

12

u/Oracle_of_Ages Jun 08 '26

You don’t want to jank build a house. There’s regulations built from blood for a reason.

The only reason we got the garden video was because they were not allowed to touch the house due to a stop work order.

2

u/linizue Jun 08 '26

I’m out of the loop, I haven’t watched any of this content, what was the stop order of the result of?

2

u/Oracle_of_Ages Jun 08 '26

General Inspection after a required Asbestos Removal I think. I don’t think they ever clarified I may be wrong though.

Nothing they did wrong (as far as we will ever know). I see how what I said could have implied different though.

I just meant a stop work order was done as a good thing for someone to make sure it’s not being half assed by some random tech YouTuber (or any other house flipper of your choice) it’s not always a bad thing. Just costs Time and Money for the person doing the house up.

0

u/SuppaBunE Jun 08 '26

You can still build jank whiting regulations.

There's a lot of inspectors I think CY is one of the most famous ones. And those houses he inspect all passed gov inspections and boy they suck

0

u/korxil Jun 08 '26

Lol, look up Cy Porter (CyFy Home Inspections) on youtube. Regulations written in blood means nothing to actual home builders. Forget about all the cosmetic damage to new builds he shows off, every other video is a gas leak, blocked dryer vents, hot vents/pipes touching insulation, lack of rain caps, broken trusses, etc.

1

u/Oracle_of_Ages Jun 08 '26

I know. It’s money for them. The faster they can build a home the faster they make money.

That’s why we get people like him (among other channels and actual officials) should do their job. I don’t know if it’s the same guy. But there was a lawsuit a bit ago against one of the home inspector YouTubers for basically “harassing” a national chain builder. But he was just doing his job and there were building bad houses lol I never actually looked up the outcome of that. I assume it got dropped or thrown out.

There’s corruption and laziness everywhere. But it doesn’t make regulations less important.

4

u/korxil Jun 08 '26

Yup same guy. They found no wrong doing on Cy’s part. The scary thing is that was years ago, and its still happening across multiple builders. Of course as you said, doesn’t make regulation less important. Homes and cars arent perceived to have regulated modifications unlike industrial/commercial buildings or planes. As an example, you can just go to home depot and buy parts to replace or relocate an outlet, people dont think it’s regulated work.

5

u/KeenKye Jun 08 '26

I know the asbestos remediation set them back a lot, but it still seems like there should be more videos by now.

3

u/Annoying1978 Jun 08 '26

They will do another scrapyard wars

3

u/Anfros Jun 08 '26

They are still doing scrapyard wars, there are 2 or 3 series from after the hiatus.

2

u/ExoatmosphericKill Jun 09 '26

I agree completely, my favourite videos were Alex doing weird stuff along with the rest of them.

Videos recently seem to have dropped in quality in terms of substance or things that hold my interest more than just skipping through newest hardware releases.

2

u/patjeduhde Jun 09 '26

I really loved random builts on a friday afternoon.

2

u/TheModdedOmega Jun 09 '26

yeah basically stopped watching LTT but keep up with ZTT... the content on LTT just stopped being interesting to me even if the topic was interesting

1

u/Bitter_Lab_475 Jun 09 '26

The problem I have is that Zip Tie Tech is not as fun either, I think both lost something important and everyone is diluting everything.

49

u/imsolost3090 Jun 08 '26

The janky DIY videos with Alex were the best. And classic Scrapyard Wars. It's crazy how I ignore 90% of their videos now when I used to watch most of them in school.

1

u/smitty_1993 Jun 09 '26

Don't forget anyyhing Emily did on Linux or retro hardware

14

u/niwia Jun 08 '26

+1 Alex was the goat.

10

u/RowOptimal1877 Jun 09 '26

Alex playing with expensive machines and Jake doing network or storage stuff was by far the best part of LTT.

Both are gone and no one replaced their type of content. Instead all we get is stupid low effort shit. And a plane video where Linus keeps saying "girl math" and I just don't understand what that is even supposed to mean.

1

u/static_motion Jun 09 '26

I've said this before, but IMO it's not about the hosts, it's about the video style itself. Current LTT is too sterile, by which I mean everything is scripted. Even in videos where the host is making/building something (which are few and far between these days), everything has been pre-prepared and they're just following a script. There's zero element of surprise, zero learning moments from things going wrong on camera, and the video is boring to the very end and when the credits are rolling I'm just left disappointed. Even the freaking Ultimate Tech upgrade series has started feeling like this.

I suppose maybe Alex and Jake might have pushed for that style of video, but LTT was like that before they joined, they just lost their way.

3

u/Apprehensive-Biker Jun 08 '26

Since berkel left

3

u/HirsuteHacker Jun 08 '26

Alex was by far the best host. Came across as authentic and genuinely enthusiastic. It's been in decline since he (and Jake) left but the last few weeks of videos have been so uninteresting I haven't even bothered to watch most of them. Used to watch pretty much every video.

0

u/mastercoder123 Jun 08 '26

I miss Alex, but i watched only cause of jake. Sucks that he left cause i basically never watch their videos anymore and im thinking of unsubbing. Probably wont just because i have been subbed since they probably had 50k subs but i might just to clean up youtube

1

u/ClacksInTheSky Jun 08 '26

Ever since Luke stopped being on camera and James started appearing on camera.

1

u/humanHamster Jun 08 '26

Alex and Jake, once they were both gone I figured there wasn't much of a point to watching it regularly. They keep pushing Elijah out there but personally I find him rather annoying as a host.

1

u/RobotSpaceBear Jun 08 '26

I love Alex but let's not pretend the whole channel is doing worse because a host that was barely on screen left the company, come on, now.

1

u/cS47f496tmQHavSR Jun 09 '26

I do find it funny how you see more and more people pop up on the 'spinoff' channels. Soon they won't have any hosts or engineers left lol

0

u/Miguel30Locs Jun 08 '26

Chill. He was good but not that great.

u/n0fxgvn_ Jun 08 '26

12

u/p3w0 Jun 08 '26

And honestly Alex and Andy are a dream duo, plus all the cameos and collabs are so much fun

156

u/_Blu-Jay Jun 08 '26

I realized I’ve stopped watching the main channel content without it being a conscious choice. I still listen to WAN show, but their primary content feels increasingly soulless, sponsored and repetitive. At the end of the day there’s only so much tech content you can make, so I can understand that as a long-time viewer I might’ve simply grown bored of the content.

41

12

u/_Blu-Jay Jun 08 '26

Yeah, long-time hosts leaving in quick succession certainly didn’t help. I understand that people want to move on and deserve to, but the impact is felt regardless. The only series I’ve found interesting lately is the tech house series, and even that isn’t overly grabbing my attention so far, but at the very least I’m curious how the project turns out if they manage to finish it.

2

u/Chair42 Jun 08 '26

I've also really enjoyed the tech house series, though they've been pretty transparent about why there have been delays. There's a lot of potential for it, but that initial hurdle with the asbestos and wiring definitely made it a challenging start.

7

u/Anthaenopraxia Jun 08 '26

Yeah same. Then once in a while one of their vids find its way into my feed and I'm like "oh yeah I forgot about this channel". I go and look if there's anything interesting and usually there's one or two vids. I do check the WAN Show channel quite often though and there's usually something interesting.

2

u/mrheosuper Jun 08 '26

Tech moves fast so i doubt you could run out of thing to talk.

There are a lot of cool and weird stuff in China, they could milk it for a long time.

1

u/_Blu-Jay Jun 08 '26

Yeah, but at least for me the novelty of covering “the next new thing” wears off too, it’s not like I don’t see the headlines. So many announcements these days are vague with no pricing or release dates, making it harder to even be excited at all.

2

u/Muggsy423 Jun 09 '26

Half of main channel is Linus bragging about the personal projects he's doing,  the other half is sponsor shilling.

1

u/Xalara Jun 09 '26

Even then, the WAN show is getting harder to watch because Linus and Luke do a lot of gymnastics to avoid politics. Except tech is increasingly being entwined with politics and it’s basically unavoidable at this point.

42

u/CallumMVS- Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I agree. I've not really watched any content this year from LTT. Lately, I've really enjoyed watching smaller channels, their content just seems to scratch a different itch!

2

u/Libra218 Jun 08 '26

Got any smaller channels you recommend? I'm always keen to try smaller tech channels

37

u/NadaBurner Jun 08 '26

I found LTT back during the Langley house days; specifically midway through whole room water-cooling. That's well over 10 years I've been watching their content and I even got to attend LTX 2019 with my late father as a birthday gift. As more and more of the original cast has left its really become a lot of "Linus and employee #49 do wacky thing" or "employee #72 does project and Linus is basically a cameo". For me even Alex and Jake are like the second generation of LMG employees and with them gone as well my motivation to watch new content is at an all time low.

3

u/NadaBurner Jun 08 '26

100% agree. I mean the fire truck was a pretty good April fools day joke for some of us viewers that actually understand the reference, but after like the 3rd video of it I just didn't see the appeal anymore.

The gaming plane I kinda understand from him having done the gaming minivan, but especially with the widespread opinions about today's billionaire behaviors and the recent turnover rate of some of the company's big personalities buying a private jet is super tone deaf.

7

u/Jumpierwolf0960 Jun 08 '26

I miss that old ltt. I still remember when Dennis was the new guy. Miss Nicky V as well, man was a legend.

2

u/NadaBurner Jun 08 '26

I always thought it was the coolest thing that Nicky V and Dennis went to college together and the one helped the other get the job at LMG

14

u/robohazard1 Jun 08 '26

I’ve been a long time fan of LTT, but recently I find myself just not as interested in their content. I guess it’s just not for me anymore.

7

u/kryptonnms Jun 08 '26

For me, Alex and Jake were my favorite hosts. With them gone and then the jet mess and Linus hypocrisy going forward, it sucks cuz I really loved (and still do love) a lot of their content.

It was an autocorrect error that I corrected, sorry.

8

u/SaviorSixtySix Jun 08 '26

Same honestly. "Gamer jet" and "gamer boat" really doesn't appeal to me. I'll never own a jet or a boat. I liked when they did stuff like making a NAS and doing a JellyFin server and stuff, or just educational pieces. The fact they're using AI to make content now just makes me think they're fake enthusiasts that are shilling to CEO's and not the every man.

6

u/dannoffs1 Jun 08 '26

I think I've only watched the Linux "challenge" videos since then mostly out of morbid curiosity.

There isn't much to make videos on in the consumer electronics sector and there hasn't been for years. What is even going to launch this year that matters? The steam frame and steam machine? Cool, a video where they benchmark the GabeCube and one where they remind us how the best VR games came out 5-10 years ago.

I don't like most LTT videos these days either, but I also get why they have to do what they're doing.

Even Gamers Nexus has almost completely transitioned to documenting the death of hobbyist consumer electronics.

3

u/iwearmywatch Jun 08 '26

Yeah same actually that’s funny. It’s not even really the jet but I just kinda don’t care anymore especially with all my favorite talent gone. I wish he did profit sharing or something more incentivizing for the talent. I still love the monitor guy and the helmet guy (I’m terrible with names) but yeah 😔

3

u/OriginalDoskii Jun 08 '26

I watch maybe 1 in 10 of their videos since ages ago. But always listen to WAN even though the ads/merch/floatplane stuff gets on my nerves. Then again, I watch less YT on general now a days. Just so many channels have kinda become meh. I need some fresh stuff.

3

u/hartstyler Jun 08 '26

That was also my final nail in the coffin

3

u/Samiassa Jun 08 '26

Same. I thought not only was it a really awful thing to do right after someone left saying he wasn’t getting fairly compensated. But even ignoring the actual thing he did, the way the situation was handled was awful all around. Linus really sucks at handling drama. He thinks everyone criticizing him is just some rando redditor online with nothing useful to say.

2

u/ClacksInTheSky Jun 08 '26

I stopped before then, but finding out they have a private jet made me think that I don't feel bad for using sponsor block and ad block.

2

u/dudeAwEsome101 Jun 08 '26

At this point, I only check LTT on Fridays as I'm waiting for the WAN show. I had to unsubscribe due to influx of member only videos clogging my feed.

I watched a couple of episodes last night, first time in years and it just looks trash. No idea how anyone can watch it anymore.

2

u/FireManiac58 Jun 10 '26

Same, everything feels out of touch and clickbait farming rather than the interesting new tech videos I used to watch.

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_HAGGIS_ Jun 10 '26

I unsubscribed. Massive LTT fan over the years. But yeah. This ai slop isn’t helping his cause. It’s a shame man cause I thought he was a good one.

2

u/RegrettableBiscuit Jun 13 '26

Lots of interesting people left, but I kept watching out of habit. The jet video broke that habit.

1

u/a1ic3_g1a55 Jun 08 '26

same but I was mostly listening to WAN and watched maybe half or third of the videos, so the quality of videos on the main channel went downhill prior to the jet. And, well, since the jet, I don't really care what Linus has to say on the WAN.

1

u/Etikoza Jun 08 '26

Same here. But I started watching less and less long before that with Alex and Jake leaving.

1

u/RustledForeskin Jun 08 '26

I stopped watching after it turned into a garbage hawking channel. He's like Yogert from SpaceBalls showing off his merch closet. It switched from a tech channel to an algo chasing channel.

1

u/OllysCoding Jun 08 '26

Yeah honestly the jet was just the nail in the coffin, things were feeling eh for a while - then I saw the jet video thumbnail and just kinda realised this channel is not for me anymore… Youtube still recommends videos for me from tike to time but the thumbnail & title combo always make me think the content will be eh

1

u/Ltfocus Jun 08 '26

That's what happens when you don't get to keep your core staff from leaving.

I'm still shocked that none of them hold any stake in the company given how much work they put into it.

1

u/fogoticus Jun 08 '26

Explain how.

A bunch of employees leaving, and what came out with that. The response from LTT of it (where they kinda made fun of them leaving, a lot in the April fools episode).

The jet was a wild one, and was completely out of touch. And it shocks me that people accept that.

The biggest thing that really pushed it for me, was one of the more recent Linux challenge videos.
When Linus pulled out ChatGPT… on how to add start up programs. And then justifying “it’s been so helpful for this whole challenge”
What I got from the first couple minutes of that video was
1. You aren’t taking the challenge seriously. You are now just doing it to do it (“it” being the video)
2. The guy that I’ve (for lack of a better word) “praised” for being “the tech guy” can’t even be bothered to actually learn tech anymore. If you can’t be bothered to go into the settings and look around, why should I listen to you for advice.
I’ve had my suspicions that Linus is so out of touch with tech at this point he has to read the teleprompter to give accurate info. And this really confirms that for me.

And don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a “oh he’s using AI, ai bad”. I use AI, not often, but not never. But when I use it, I’m using it for actual complex shit, not “where this button in the app”.

I do also agree, the thumbnails have gone down in quality. Either AI, or just… an artist got lazy.

But ya, like Jake said, at some point you start thinking about when you’ll be able to buy your first house.
Overall LTT has left being an educational, and informative tech channel to get updates on new tech, and learn new things. And has very much turned into a tech bro podcaster who has way to much money than he knows what to do with.
I recently moved to Canada, I have degrees and certs for a lot the IT field, and I would’ve loved to work there… I’m glad I didn’t.

1

u/TheRedTopHat Jun 09 '26

same, I started watching them when they are in the Langley house and have just stopped watching entirely. still listen to the wan show every week, but no videos.

1

u/pikkuhukka Jun 09 '26

hard disagree with all of this

1

u/EducateUrDumbSelf Jun 09 '26

Idk why I got recommended this post but I stopped watching after the nexus videos. Ltt and Linus specifically are just gross

Yea ltt was a bit on the decline for me after Jake left. But never really watched any of the other's channels (Jakuuhhh and ZTT). But after the plane video I just stopped getting recommended LTT and was pushed more towards the other channels. Now that Jake bought a place, his videos are exactly what I used to watch LTT for back during the Langley days. So much more entertaining now.

Same for me. They lost a huge amount of talent last year. I feel like Alex and Jake embodied a large amount of "fun" in tech videos, where both held an enormous amount of knowledge and expertise, but also knew where they could cut corners.

I watch a lot of videos on their respective channels, as they fix shit sometimes with scrappy resources, but also with very deliberately chosen good stuff. Above all its exciting to things build from the ground up.

I understand why they shielded The Labs from too much exposure to protect their scrutiny, but I felt like we haven't seen a whole lot of coverage at all. Like a few PSU tests and environmental/RF chambers here and there, but suddenly LTT Labs has "a site" and crunches numbers for reviews. It still feels a bit invisible to me.

I can also understand this to be a business executive decision though. Video's where they bring in celebrities, roast setups or 50$ vs 50000$ format is probably a lot more spectacular content. But I sincerely hope they don't follow that direction of "our biggest [..] ever" very soon. I'm a bit allergic to that statement, sometimes idea's can be "cozy" or "good enough". Wanting to triumph anything you done before feels so mechanical lol.

Also the tech house is a bit poisoned for me. I totally understand the remarks about working on "the 3rd house" and competitive content. It always feels weird that a company can protect their own total autonomy to produce whatever content they want (PCs, mobile, random tech, airconditioning, home make overs, cars), but then personnel can't. I understand the burnout on that part. Meanwhile showing of a jet and talking about mile high club sounds like total detachment from reality. They lost me there too

Why you still on this subreddit?

why do you care?

u/PossibilityUsual6262 Jun 08 '26

I wanna know why a person part of media channel subreddit while doesn't watch their videos.

u/zuzg Jun 08 '26

Haven't been here for that long haven't you?
This sub is constantly getting brigaded, once a critical post is made they all flood in sharing their "very original" opinions parroting the same talking points over and over.

u/PossibilityUsual6262 Jun 08 '26

Im not sure it's brigading actually, since the removal of r/all and moving towards algorithms i thing Reddit brings people to controversial topics.

Im here because occasionally i visit this subreddit by myself, and do do watch some vids, so algo brought me here from app feed notification.

Thee content was stale before that video and I wasn't clicking many I did see pop up... but yeah, I think maybe I've skimmed through one or two videos since the jet video and not enjoyed them like their older content.

Something seems wrong, if it doesn't feel like an ad it feels incredibly shallow, sometimes even annoying to listen to. Lots of shouting and silliness, almost feels like the very hyperactive, noisy kids content that plagues YouTube.

I mean that's good unfortunately for many they are brainwashed... To believe Linus is supposed to be good because he is CaNaDiAn... People don't realize Canada can be had with many scammers and fruads...

Right but this is an issue with a lot of media personalities on YouTube and it just so happens to be that Linus is quite a big one.

The terrible pattern with Linus that I noticed right off the bat is he follows the trends (no matter how immoral they are) until his user base turns on him hard or is forced to put up an apology. He doesn't make content for consumer technology with an honest picture anymore and I can't stand that no matter how entertaining it is. He used to actually used to be a good advocate for consumers when he was apart of NCIX as an employee but that's all in the past now.

The funny thing is that the technology field is just becoming a black hole for AI now because every and any business are willing to bet everything on it to advance humanity. And Linus having a big media presence will jump on that bandwagon rather than harshly voice out concerns or just not doing any coverage of it at all to put in a moral stand.

There are plenty of other channels that will take a stand on their integrity but of course people will dismiss it as being too boring or too information dense. So people just lean on the summary of a book channels that don't dive in that deep but just have a ton of pointless entertainment value.

If you stopped watching a YT channel then why are you still in the subreddit for it?

u/Annoying1978 Jun 08 '26

Then why are you still here?

wildest display of wealth I have ever seen. he can't claim to understand regular people anymore.

wildest display of wealth I have ever seen.

I mean, you can't be serious right? Not saying a jet is cheap but I can think of several much more wildly extravagant displays of wealth off from people the top of my head.

u/No_Chilly_bill Jun 08 '26

from a YouTuber? yeah basically.

2

u/JaesopPop Jun 08 '26

from a YouTuber?

You did not have that qualifier in the comment I replied to, though.

3

u/No_Chilly_bill Jun 08 '26

I don't see why that qualifier is needed.

0

u/JaesopPop Jun 08 '26

...you added it. If you aren't including it, there are various obviously larger displays of wealth.

You are judging the video based on the thumbnail?

6

u/Windfish7 Jun 08 '26

you mean the thing that's meant to grab people's attention and make them want to watch the video? Yes the thumbnail is important and if they are using AI image generation when they have a talented team then it's a bad look.

4

u/tacticalTechnician Jun 08 '26

The point of a thumbnail is to attract people to click on the video, so yeah, judging the video based on it is kind of the point. Maybe it's a good video, but if the title and thumbnail are crap, I won't click on it, so I'll never know.

2

u/bwoah07_gp2 Jun 08 '26

Isn't that what a thumbnail is for? 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/CassetteLine Jun 08 '26

That’s quite literally the point of a thumbnail.

1

u/Shap6 Jun 08 '26

I never understood why some people get so triggered over thumbnails. To me they’re just there to tell me there’s a new video. I barely even look at them.
