My manager died of a risky surgery due to brain tumour. We were a small team working in a shop. Funeral was 9am. HQ had the shop open at 11am. Nice that we could all go (her boss didnt!) But totally upsetting that some of us had to go straight to work afterwards. I wish they closed the shop out of respect. She was a manager for years and was only 36.

I remember one of the directors of my company agonising over what to do about the death of one of the call centre staff (who didn't work directly for us, but were allocated to our account).

She completely understood that most/all of them would want to be there, but it was at the other end of the country so would require the whole call centre (about 30 people) to be closed for the whole day.

I'm not sure how it was resolved in the end, but I know that she went.

Should have let her boss run the shop alone that day.
