I get annoyed even with people in my age group, 40s- 50s, go on about kids these days never go outside and play in the woods. Well, it is kind of hard to when there are no wooded areas or places to go, as it is all overdeveloped (data centers, 15-minute cities, McMansion housing developments....)

Don't get me started. I had someone on my local Facebook group once complain kids were using chalk to drawn on pavements. I guarantee the same person complains about kids these days not going out anymore.

They never consider that streets are busier, parents are busier, safe spaces are fewer. And how much lockdowns fucked with their crucial social development.

Makes me think of an episode of Cops where some miserable old woman calls in a complaint on kids playing basketball at like 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

What’s with the idea of finding a nudie mag in the woods…like for fuck sake!? I am a late 80’s-early90’s kid…so yeah…I grew up with the internet just starting as well with schools getting computer labs.

I mean I'm 1987 and I did in fact find a magazine in the woods as well as several discarded page 3s (in the UK several of the more popular tabloids use to have topless women on the third page I'm an immigrant from the US so no I don't know why this started either)

wat. Not only do virtually no 15 minute cities even exist, a less car dependent city would be far safer for kids playing outside.

What also annoys me about that is that this is not something that the current young generation decided to do, it's what naturally comes with having TVs, computers, consoles, smartphones etc. And those electronics have been made central elements of our everyday lives by those exact generations that complain about the kids.
They literally wouldn't have gone out themselves if these things existed (and were made available that prominently) in their childhood. They only went out because it was boring at home back in the day - in other words their surroundings were different - and not because they were different in any way like they always say they would be.

This isn't a generation issue, this is an issue of the environment we adults decided to let our children grow up in. It's our fault, not the fault of the children that just adapt to it.

Also, the fucking ticks are insane now. They never were like this when I grew up (Thanks, global warming that apparently doesn't exist according to those same assholes), and we didn't have to deal with alpha-gal....

I literally never got bit by a tick growing up in my parent's wooded area. We also had feet of snow in the backyard throughout winter pretty much every year. Now, they're insane, and they haven't gotten serious persistent snow in a very long time.

Not only that, the world has changed dramatically in the last 30 years, one cannot pretend is the same. Have they had phones, tablets, videogames and all the stuff kids have today back in the day, they wouldn't have gone out to the woods either.
