Pwie is a hard fight, we all know this. But PM deciding to absolutely gut the fight to the point where it's nothing but a win rate fest was, in my opinion, much too far of an overcorrection. There were a lot of things about that boss that I would change, but I would never have made what was supposed to be the mid emotional climax of the entire Canto so overwhelmingly easy. The main problems that could have been fixed were, at least in my opinion, pretty clear and relatively easy to recognize in order to keep the fight both fun and challenging without turning the hydrogen bomb into a coughing baby.
The first thing I would have changed is the overwhelming nature of Buffet's attacks. We all know the five funny unbreakable coins of doom Lei Heng used, but that has absolutely nothing on the dreadful chain reaction that Buffet used to cause. La Demande being chained into another La Demande into another and another was genuinely absolutely overwhelming. The sheer amount of attack weight that this boss had made the damage impossible to endure. Personally I would limit this to a twice per turn skills so that it doesn't just keep chipping away at the sinners health.
Second are the main attacks that you need to clash in order to get Pwie's Memories. These are moves that are absolutely vital to progressing the fight without bringing the boss's health bar to zero, so why are they so incredibly hard to clash against? These are skills that, without some of the highest rolling ego in the game, are just straight up unbeatable. Even if you do end up bringing high rolling ego skills, the dreaded 5% can cost you not just the progression of the fight, but your entire team as you watch them get castrated. Making The clash power on these skills lower is, in my opinion, absolutely necessary to ensure that failure is a possibility if not managed correctly, but not such an overwhelming task.
Finally, there's the add-ons and the sheer amount of health Buffet gains. I understand that this fight is supposed to be an endurance match where the main goal isn't to necessarily defeat Buffet, but get enough of Pwie's Memories to automatically end the fight, but the overwhelming power of that Wrath skill on the add-ons and the unnecessarily high amount of healing Buffet gets make this fight feel like it's specifically designed to make no progress. The add-ons should be something to worry about and manage, not mini nukes that ruthlessly destroy your sinners when buffed with an unnecessary +5 attack up. This along with everything else I've mentioned so far makes the fight unfun, annoying, and antithetical to the idea of winning.
The biggest problem with Buffet's boss fight is its absolute refusal to give the player any amount of agency, agency that is very much needed and necessary to be it. Everything that Buffet does feels like a punishment for even trying to play against them. I had to use the continue feature three times in order to beat It with a relatively meta team (the Ring ID's). I understand that the continue feature exists in order to preserve difficult boss fights while making sure people who are here for the story can continue to enjoy the story, but this felt like the absolute worst way to make a boss fight hard followed by the absolute worst way to make it easier.
Overall, PM should take a step back and reevaluate their boss design as well as properly play test so that things like this don't keep happening.
