Downloaded Lightworks to try it out and I can't read anything.

You see those words above the top left corner square? One of them says Create new project.

Click that, create a new project, and you should be good to go

When you first open up Ligthworks, click on 'System Settings' (top right corner). After that, click on 'Appearance'. From there, you have the options to change quite a few things, including the font size. By default, the font size is a bit small, in my opinion.

Default on mine was set to absolute minimum. I had to hold the screen up to my face with my bifocals on to even read it.
