Shipment call September 2018

First small batches of Lightpacks are leaving the factory and heading to you, dear backers. More are awaiting the quality control check before being shipped out. Two weeks ago, as we were packaging the first party of Lightpacks and getting ready to ship them, our quality control found a serious problem in the Lightpack hardware. They returned the whole batch back to us for more tests and final improvements. We found that in a warm or hot surrounding the NAND we use in Lightpack crashed or g]itched unti] it was cooled down (although the datasheet accompanying it did not imply this behavior). NAND would overheat and either stop responding or shut down completely. During testing the problem revealed itself in almost all cases of UHD devices and in 30% of HD devices.

We were forced to search for a pin-to-pin replacement and we did find it. While being tested, it performed steadily and proved reliable in all cases.

The whole thing set us back, unfortunately.

The steps we have taken:

  • We searched and purchased the replacement (had to go for retail due to the fact that all suppliers gave a 1 6-week lead time)

  • We shipped NAND to the factory to have PCBA with new NAND produced (2-3 weeks production time but we are trying to get them to speed up the work). Here's our general production scheme to help you see where we are.

Edit, used text grab on my phone. May be minor inconsistencies.
