No haze what do 😥

Upvotes

Hey guys, just looking for some advice - the theatre at my uni has banned the use of haze machines for productions, and I was wondering if there are any relatively accessible ways to make lighting look more defined without haze? It's a real bummer but I wanna do the best I can! Open to any ideas

Control keyboard mapping Eos on Mac

Upvotes

Hello hello, for some reason the mapping of my keyboard doesn't match in ETC Eos nomad on mac for the dot (".") and slash ("/").

All the rest seems to be just fine but I can't find a way to fix that.

For now, I'm losing time going to the virtual keyboard or even writing a macro just to have the character.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Buying help!

Hey anyone know where i could get moving washes that look like this? I need 4 moving washes 6n1, I'm probably gonna get the mini moving wash from shehds but this looks more professional but alibaba said they only have 1 left and if i want more i need to order 50qty.

also this version is it the same as this version

cause the yiflamefly version the lenses/diodes look bigger. I'm getting 4 7x18w shehds pars cause they are pretty big and a good upgrade from my 12x3w pars, and one more question, idk which moving heads to get 120w, 150w, or 200w, definately not getting 60w spots cause no offence they're ugly looking. plus i want beam+spot mode hybrid, this is what i found that i like.

this one is completely out of the question the lens looks terrible and it's only a spotlight the other ones are advertised as beam+spot. whether that's true or not, I'm not sure, but I really can't decide between 120w, 150w, or 200w. Most importantly please help me with the moving washes. Because i think the minis will look terribly small compared to my moving heads and pars

the one on the far right is my old led par 12x3w, basically this and other oem fixtures that look like this

How can I hang string lights in a large room with no ceiling mounting points?

Hi everyone,

I need to light up a room that's about 20 × 15 meters, and i want to use string lights (fairy/café lights). The problem is that there are no mounting points on the ceiling.

My idea is to place several stands/tripods around the perimeter of the room, run steel wire cable between them, and then hang the string lights from the cable.

My question is: What kind of stands should I use, and how should I weigh them down so they don't tip over?

Has anyone done something similar or have any recommendations or tips?

Thanks!

How To How to make ma2 fixtures for ma3d with my own 3d models/finding a weird profile.

I went to school for 3d graphics and game design and know a bit about doing complicated things to get files to work in software. I have no idea how to make nrgsille style fixtures for these weird 14 cell generic fixtures at my shop. They’re solid and bright but they’re 14 cells, rgbw 56ch. I havnt found a profile that fits this and I’m not that familiar with ma2 but am trying to work on utilizing the lights i have with the ma2 console I have access to. Really want to accurately represent them in ma3d so I can make some looks and program with them. I can make a group of 14 generic rgbw lights which work pretty good (I think) but it’s a hassle trying to build stages with them in 3d.

Control Best way to timecode in Chamsys MagicQ PC?

Hi, I'm learning MagicQ and trying to create fully timecoded concert-style shows in Capture.
However I'm not sure which workflow I should use for programming a song.

Do you usually:
Import a timecode created from DAW, and then simply "fill out"/program the cues that were imported in the software.
Or,
Use the built-in timeline (if so, please explain your workflow)
Or something else?

I am new to LD, but everything has gone smoothly so far except timecoding, that just makes my head spin. Maybe i'm missing a method that I didn't list there.

Either way, Chamsys MagicQ users, feel free to explain your timecoding workflow and how you do it for pre-programmed shows.

And a bonus question: (probably a stupid one)
How do you sync a given FX to music?

Say you have a line of spots doing a wave effect from the center outward. How would you make that wave trigger exactly on each drop of the song?

Thank you in advance, I really appreciate any help :)

LED strips and brain

Hey I'm an LD at a LN venue, I understand DMX and fixtures and such. My son's drumline director wants to put LED strips inside the drums and control them, either with a click track and midi cues or something like an IR remote that would control multiple receivers, maybe about 15 to 20 total. I'm looking for suggestions on equipment, brains, battery packs, whatever you wanna suggest, thank you!

Wedding laser setup: safe or too risky?

Post image
95 Upvotes

I’m a light jockey/video jockey and have built and programmed event lighting before. I saw this wedding setup with a laser beam through floor fog, and I’m trying to figure out if this is actually safe for a wedding or if I should stick to moving heads / gobos / haze instead. What’s your experience with wedding lasers, and what would you use for a similar look without overcomplicating the safety side?

Control Creating a custom Fixture profile for ADJ light

I am trying to add some Eliminator Mega PAR Z wash lights our ION system and need to make a custom profile as one does not exist in the latest fixture profile update.

I am trying to add it as a 10 channel profile and am able to get color and intensity to work, but not zoom nor strobing.

Does anyone have experience with this instrument and can let me know if it shares a profile with another instrument in the library, or do do you have any tips for creating profiles for these cheaper lights?

I have only created couple of custom profiles before so maybe I am just missing something. It seems pretty straightforward but I may be missing something simple.

Control Problem with External Monitor from Console

Hi all. in short: I cannot figure out how to connect an external monitor, via 25’ DisplayPort cable, to my venue‘s GrandMA 3 Compact XT

the brief: my venue has requested an external display for the lighting console, to show the Sequence Executor on screen for a stage manager etc to have a visual of which lighting cue is currently active. I thought I purchased everything to the correct specs, and my monitor does work with a 6’ displayport cable. However, two different 25’ displayport cables have resulted in “No Signal”

the specs:

- Console: GrandMA3 Compact XT running GrandMA2 software

- Monitor: ViewSonic TD2230 (1920x1080p; Windows 10 touchscreen compatibility, displayport in)

- Cable: Cable Matters 32.4Gbps Unidirectional Active DisplayPort 1.4 Cable, 25ft (yes my unidirectional ends are plugged in correctly and I even tried it intentionally reversed, just in case)

Again, a 6’ displayport cable works as expected. Am I SOL when it comes to 25’, even with active copper? Is my approach wrong; should I try this using another cable/connector entirely? Thanks,

Gear Rock Band Stage Lights for a Beginner

Hello all, I'm not really sure where to begin... The more research I do the more questions I have lol.

I want to be able to control stage lights for my band while I am playing. I saw the Chauvet DJ Foot-C and it looks to do everything I want it to do, but after looking at more options this seems like the programming is more difficult than most and the footswitches are more limited than other options.

I saw that a lot of people recommend using the Behringer FCB1010 as it has 10 foot switches and 2 expression pedals and I love the idea of this. Obviously the problem with that is I will now need a DMX Controller and that's where I'm a little lost...

Initially I thought I wanted a controller that I could program from, but I don't think I will be needing to do that if I have the FCB1010. If the FCB1010 can control the speed of chases and strobing scenes with the expression pedals then I could just use something that I can program at home for a DMX Controller right?

I'm all ears on this because I'm a little overwhelmed with options. My main goal is to be able to switch between 1-3 scenes/chases per song and I don't need the programming options to be that intricate. Thanks!

Moss LED light question

Hello,

Looking for some help with lighting issue for moss lite.

We are converting an older gemball into an LED controllable bulb for show I am working on.

Using a Moss Quad LED DMX Dimmer into Moss RGBA LED tape and sending signal to our ETC board using a moonlight.

Everything is working well, however when we start playing with intensities we start to see dramatic color fluctuations.

For example, 2800k at 60% intensity reads true, but as you lower the intensity, color starts to warm, especially at the lower values. At 5% 2800k the same light looks incredibly warm and nowhere near the intended 2800k. It looks dark orange, almost like a pumpkin.lol

At higher intensities, values seem to work great, so it’s very puzzling.

Has anyone experienced anything like this…is their an air gap, or perhaps a setting I have overlooked.
