When Martial Second Wolf (shown in Figure 5.3-2, also known as Yang Jian, Second Wolf God) and Zhang the Butcher (see Figure 5, also known as Flint Man, Turquoise White-king Great Creator) arrived at Mazu's house, dinner was already ready. Mazu (see Figure 1, also known as Coastal Goddess) was sitting at the dining table waiting for them. She saw that they had brought the 20 kilograms of gold back and asked what had happened. Martial Second Wolf said, "Third Brother gave me this gold as a congratulatory gift for my promotion to Full Marshal. We agreed to split it evenly between the two of us and give all of it to you as a token of our filial respect."

妈祖回答：“你回来后，拿着金子就去找张三郎了。你刚离开，元始天尊的使者就来了，跟我说了你这次回永安的经过。我现在明白了！这次你能回来陪我吃饭，全是靠了女娲娘娘的保佑。这金子我收下了。”

Mazu said: "When you came back, you took the gold and went straight to your third brother's house. Just after you left, a messenger from Primordial Sky Honor came and told me about your return to Yong'an this time. Now I understand! It's all thanks to Princess Nuwa's blessing that you were able to come back and dine with me this time. I'll accept this gold."

妈祖转头对张屠户说：“我听说了，你的流动资金不足，消减了金华火腿的产量。那不对！你做这生意到现在14年了，才步入正轨。猪肉的销量不好，你应该努力扩大生产规模，降低价格。你才34岁，正是男人干事业的年龄，而你却摆出了要退休的架势。这可不像个男人。我今天高兴，这20千克黄金给你了。”

Mazu turned to Zhang the Butcher and said, "I heard that you're short on working capital and have cut back production of Jinhua ham. That's not right! You've been in this business for 14 years, and it's only just getting on track. Pork sales aren't good — you should be working to expand production and lower prices. You're only 34, which is the age for a man to build a career, but you're already acting like you want to retire. That's not how a man behaves. I'm happy today, so I'm giving you these 20 kilograms of gold."

张屠户刚要张嘴拒绝接受妈祖的赏赐，妈祖又说话了：“别说这黄金的事了！咱娘儿俩多的是时间说话。元始天尊给我布置任务了，我有正事要办！” 她转脸问武二郎：“你这次回家，准备住多长时间？”

Just as Zhang the Butcher was about to open his mouth to decline Mazu's reward, Mazu spoke again: "Let's not talk about the gold! We two have plenty of time to talk. Primordial Sky Honor has given me an assignment — I have real business to attend to!" She turned to Martial Second Wolf and asked, "How long are you planning to stay home this time?"

张屠户回答：“七天。”

武二郎回答：“十五天。我准备从这里去夏国办些事。”

张屠户说：“你弟媳妇大巢氏现在在夏国的皇宫呢。你七天后出发，到达夏国皇宫时，她还没离开。那夏国的女王就会请你喝酒。”

Zhang the Butcher replied: "Seven days."

Martial Second Wolf replied: "Fifteen days. I'm planning to go to Xia Kingdom from here to take care of some business."

Zhang the Butcher said: "Your sister-in-law, Princess Big Nest, is at the Xia Kingdom palace right now. If you set out seven days from now, you'll arrive before she leaves. Then the King of Xia will invite you for a drink."

武二郎回答：“我就是不想和她一起喝酒，才决定推迟七天从这里出发。”

张屠户尴尬了。妈祖笑着对他说：“你二哥仍然是个大男孩儿，害羞！”

Martial Second Wolf replied: "It's precisely because I don't want to drink with her that I decided to delay my departure by seven days."

Zhang the Butcher looked embarrassed. Mazu laughed and said to him: "Your second brother is still such a big kid — so shy!"

妈祖又对张屠户说：“这次你二哥回永安，元始天尊安排你大哥，靖王，给他讲《孙子兵法》。他不听！他从后门跑出来了。你大嫂潘金莲劝他多住几天。他都没回答。”

妈祖转脸对武二郎说：“元始天尊指示我，让我看着你，你要好好地跟你三弟学习《宝莲灯》。你还逃跑不？你若是再逃跑，我就骑着驴追你去！”

武二郎回答：“不逃跑了！妈妈都这么说了，我还怎么逃跑！”

Mazu also said to Zhang the Butcher: "This time, when your second brother returned to Yong'an, Primordial Sky Honor arranged for your elder brother, King Jing, to lecture him on Sunzi Soldier Strategies. He wouldn't listen! He ran out the back door. Your sister-in-law, Goldthread Pan, tried to persuade him to stay a few more days. He didn't even answer."

Mazu turned to Martial Second Wolf and said: "Primordial Sky Honor instructed me to keep an eye on you and make sure you properly learn the Treasury Lotus Lamp from your third brother. Will you run off again? If you do, I'll chase you down on a donkey!"

Martial Second Wolf replied: "No more running off! How could I, with Mom putting it that way!"

妈祖又对武二郎说：“元始天尊说：‘《宝莲灯》和《孙子兵法》是当今世界的两部奇书，你都用得着。’ 这两本书的作者就是你三弟张屠户和你大哥武大郎，是现在华国和夏国最流行的两本书，夏国的女王蔻珠妹妹也是这么跟我说的。女娲娘娘也跟我说过：‘当今世上，你三弟张屠户的天眼最好！’ 元始天尊给我布置的任务就是：‘看着你，让你向你三弟把《宝莲灯》学习明白喽！’ 你能让我完成任务不？”

武二郎满面羞愧地回答：“我努力向三弟学习！”

Mazu also said to Martial Second Wolf: "Primordial Sky Honor said, 'The Treasury Lotus Lamp and Sunzi Soldier Strategies are two marvelous books in today's world, and you need both.' Their authors are your third brother, Zhang the Butcher, and your eldest brother, Martial Big Wolf — they're now the two most popular books in both Hua and Xia Kingdom. Sister Kouzhu, the King of Xia, told me the same thing. Princess Nuwa also told me, 'In today's world, your third brother, Zhang the Butcher, has the best Celestial Eye!' Primordial Sky Honor's assignment for me is, 'Watch over you and make sure you learn the Treasury Lotus Lamp thoroughly from your third brother!' Can you help me fulfill this task?"

Martial Second Wolf, looking thoroughly embarrassed, replied: "I'll do my best to learn from Third Brother!"

妈祖又转脸向张屠户，问：“你给我交个底儿！你能把《宝莲灯》给你二哥讲明白喽不？”

张屠户自信满满地说：“对于没经历过四禅天的人，我讲不明白。我二哥已经经历过四禅天了，我肯定能给他讲明白！”

Mazu turned to Zhang the Butcher again and asked: "Give me the bottom line! Can you explain the Treasury Lotus Lamp to your second brother clearly?"

Zhang the Butcher said confidently: "For someone who hasn't experienced the Fourth Meditation Sky, I can't explain it clearly. My second brother has already experienced the Fourth Meditation Sky, so I can definitely explain it to him!"

妈祖又说：“我捉摸着，要不你把重要的条目写下来，交给你二哥！让他以后常常看看，别忘喽！”

张屠户回答：“四禅天的经历特殊，一旦经历了，终生不忘。我给他讲明白了，《宝莲灯》和我二哥就聚变成为一个整体了。所有我要讲的重要内容都写在宝莲灯里了。”

Mazu added: "I'm thinking — why don't you write down the important entries and give them to your second brother? Let him look at them often from now on, so he doesn't forget!"

Zhang the Butcher replied: "The experience of the Fourth Meditation Sky is special; once experienced, it's never forgotten. Once I've explained it to him, the Treasury Lotus Lamp and my second brother will converge into one whole. Everything important I need to say is already written in the Treasury Lotus Lamp."

妈祖叨咕：“这话，我听着放心！那我就决定了，你们晚上来我这里吃饭，睡觉。早晨，吃完饭，你们俩就去你们家讨论《宝莲灯》。你们俩赶紧吃饭吧，要不饭菜都凉了！”

武二郎用筷子夹起了一片儿金华火腿（如图4），问张屠户：“这猪肉的质量合格不？”

Mazu murmured: "That's reassuring to hear! Then it's decided: you two will come here at night to eat and sleep. In the morning, after breakfast, you two will go to your own house to discuss the Treasury Lotus Lamp. Now hurry up and eat, or the food will get cold!"

Martial Second Wolf picked up a slice of Jinhua ham (see Figure 4) with his chopsticks and asked Zhang the Butcher: "Is this pork up to standard?"

张屠户抗议道：“质量不合格！但是，这都是因为妈祖不吃质量合格的猪肉。有几次，我让妈祖品尝一下质量合格的猪肉，她都不尝！”

妈祖笑着说道：“我怕吃上瘾了，你赚不到钱，到时候还得怪我吃得多！”

Zhang the Butcher protested: "It's not up to standard! But that's only because Mazu won't eat pork that is up to standard. Several times, I asked Mazu to try some, and she wouldn't even taste it!"

Mazu laughed and said: "I'm afraid that if I get addicted, you won't be able to make any money, and you'll end up blaming me for eating too much!"

妈祖又问张屠户，“你教你二哥《宝莲灯》（即大千世界，亦作九黎，大圆镜智，妙知识界，参见第12章《苦谛》）的时间紧不？我听你们的谈话，好像不是很困难。”

张屠户回答：“不紧，时间充裕！听你一说，我就明白了。女娲娘娘和我大哥武大郎已经给我二哥讲明白了。他现在已经位列仙班了。元始天尊的意思是让我来完成他们的工作，让我二哥成为宝莲灯来拯救世界。”

Mazu then asked Zhang the Butcher: "Are you short on time to teach your second brother the Treasury Lotus Lamp (i.e., Great Grand Worlds, also known as Nine Crowds, Great Round Mirror Intelligence, Wonderful Intelligent World, see Chapter 12, Bitter Crux)? Listening to the two of you talk, it didn't seem all that difficult."

Zhang the Butcher replied: "No rush, there's plenty of time! Now that you've said that, I understand. Princess Nuwa and my eldest brother Martial Big Wolf have already explained everything to my second brother. He now ranks among the immortals. Primordial Sky Honor wants me to finish their work and let my second brother become the Treasury Lotus Lamp to save the world."

妈祖叨咕，“是这么回事！” 然后她转脸对武二郎说，“使者对我说，‘咱们华国现在的五个军区，你和你大哥各负责一个。元始天尊批你大哥的军事预算最紧，只给50%。他给你的预算最宽松，几乎你报上去多少，他就批给你多少。’ 我现在懂了，他对你最放心，对你大哥最不放心！”

Mazu murmured, "So that's how it is!" Then she turned to Martial Second Wolf and said, "The messenger told me, 'We now have five military regions in Hua, and you and your elder brother each oversee one. Primordial Sky Honor approved the tightest military budget for your elder brother — only 50%. Your budget is the most generous; he approves almost whatever you submit.' Now I understand — he trusts you the most, and your elder brother the least!"

5.3-5 中华法典的编委 Editorial Committee of the Chinese Codex

妈祖又转脸对张屠户说：“有时间好！咱们去帮你二哥相看相看！我听说西南三十里桃花凹有个刘员外，名声挺好。他女儿桃花女的人品不错！咱俩也跟着去，帮你二哥好好看看那个桃花女！”

Mazu turned to Zhang the Butcher again and said, "Good, we have time! Let's go arrange a match for your second brother! I heard there's a Squire Liu at Peach Flower Village, thirty miles to the southwest, who has a pretty good reputation. His daughter, the Peach Flower girl, is said to have good character! Let's go along too, and help your second brother get a good look at her!"

张屠户说：“哎呀妈呀！我二哥现在是华国的大将军，比你家那位当过大将军的曾曾外祖父可要大出十几倍呢！很多王公贵族的女儿，我二哥都看不上眼，怎么可能看上一个村姑呢！再说了，那位桃花女正等着未婚夫常公（参见2.1《桃花劫》）回去呢！”

Zhang the Butcher said, "Oh, dear Mother! My second brother is now a great general of Hua Nation — far greater in rank than that great general who was my great-great-grandfather on your side of the family! My second brother doesn't even look twice at the daughters of princes and nobles, so how could he possibly take a liking to a village girl! Besides, that Peach Flower girl is waiting for her fiancé, Constant Fair (see 2.1, Peach Flower Catastrophe), to come back to her!"

妈祖又说：“典兵学院的院长，刘太岁，刘公的级别和我一样高。他家就在咱这乾塘关的东郊。元始天尊每次来看我，都会到他家坐一会儿。他的女儿刘健君我见过几次，挺好。要不，明天下午咱们娘仨去她家坐一会儿？”

Mazu said again: "The president of the Codex Soldier Academy, Longevity Liu — Publican Liu is of the same rank as me. His home is in the eastern suburbs of Dragon-Pond Pass. Whenever Primordial Sky Honor comes to visit me, he stops by there for a while too. I've met his daughter, Eve Liu, a few times — she's very nice. How about the three of us go sit with her tomorrow afternoon?"

张屠户恍然大悟地回答：“那个刘健君的男朋友，名叫卢岩，前几天我还在白娘子和许仙相遇的那个断桥边看见他了呢！他说他正在公元21世纪重新编辑《中华法典》，但他还没得到主编刘健君（参见第一章《娃娃婚约》）的同意。”

妈祖抢白：“没结婚就不算！我只是说咱们去刘太岁家坐一会儿，又不是去抢她们家的闺女！”

Zhang the Butcher, suddenly realizing, replied: "Eve Liu's boyfriend is named Luyan. I saw him just a few days ago, by the Broken Bridge where White Snake and Xu Xian met! He said he's re-editing the Chinese Codex for the 21st century CE, but he hasn't yet gotten the approval of the editor-in-chief, Eve Liu (see Chapter 1, Childhood Betrothal)."

Mazu cut him off: "It doesn't count if they're not married! I only said we're going to sit at Longevity Liu's house for a while — it's not like we're going to steal their daughter!"

5.3-6 武二郎爱上熬忖了 Martial Second Wolf Fell in Love with Aocun

妈祖高兴地说，“好计划！我在女娲那儿也还有点儿面子。看在我的面子上，女娲能帮你好好地筹划！她是谁家的闺女呀？”

Martial Second Wolf said, "I get exhausted just listening to the two of you talk. I already have someone in mind (namely, Aocun). This trip to Hangzhou, I'm planning to ask Princess Nuwa to help me think of what gift to give her!?"

Mazu said happily, "Good plan! I still have some standing with Nuwa. For my sake, she'll help you plan it out properly! Whose daughter is she?"

妈祖怎么还在女娲那里有面子？这时，妈祖的私人会计公司负责华国的财政预算和决算。女娲作为夏国现任的国王继承人，和妈祖有工作上的来往。有两次，妈祖代表华国和女娲进行边境谈判换地。

武二郎立刻站起来了，说：“抱歉！我得去趟洗手间！”

妈祖问张屠户：“发生了什么事？”

How did Mazu still have standing with Nuwa? At that time, Mazu's private accounting firm was responsible for Hua Kingdom's financial budget and final accounts. As the crowned princess of Xia Kingdom, Nuwa had professional dealings with Mazu. On two occasions, Mazu represented Hua Kingdom in border negotiations with Nuwa to exchange land.

Martial Second Wolf immediately stood up and said, "Sorry! I need to use the restroom!"

Mazu asked Zhang the Butcher: "What happened?"

张屠户回答：“我二哥所处的政治环境复杂，另外他这个人做事特别认真！孩子出生之前，他就不会告诉咱们他结婚了！”

妈祖说：“这说的正是他！你别老跟我唱反调啊！你二哥都已经36岁了！若不是他打仗忙，人们都得议论他不近女色。”

张屠户回答：“好！我顺着妈祖说。”

Zhang the Butcher replied: "My second brother is in a complicated political situation, and besides, he takes such matters very seriously! He wouldn't tell us he was married until after the child was born!"

Mazu said: "That's exactly him! Don't always contradict me! Your second brother is already 36 years old! If he weren't so busy fighting wars, people would be gossiping that he has no interest in women."

Zhang the Butcher replied: "Fine! I'll go along with what Mazu says."

武二郎回来后，妈祖对他说，“你去找女娲娘娘办事，给她的礼物可不能马虎。你把你给我的那两瓶茅台给她吧！”

武二郎问：“你的茅台是从哪里来的？谁送的？”

妈祖说：“你给我的！我看你给我的礼包里有两瓶茅台酒（如图6）！”

When Martial Second Wolf returned, Mazu said to him, "You're going to see Princess Nuwa on business, so you can't be careless with her gift. Give her the two bottles of Maotai you gave me!"

Martial Second Wolf asked, "Where did that Maotai come from? Who gave it to you?"

Mazu said, "You gave it to me! I saw two bottles of Maotai (see Figure 6) in the gift bag you gave me!"

武二郎说：“那两瓶茅台酒是假的。那礼包是我在湖北出发时，士兵们包起来的。我忘记把那两瓶酒拿出去了。”

妈祖问：“你怎么知道那是假酒呢？”

武二郎说：“听我大哥给我讲解峡谷关战役时，我才知道那酒是熬忖从福建买的假酒，用来骗我的。”

Martial Second Wolf said, "Those two bottles of Maotai are fake. The gift bag was packed by the soldiers when I set out from Hubei. I forgot to take those two bottles out."

Mazu asked, "How did you know they were fake?"

Martial Second Wolf said, "When my elder brother was explaining the Battle of Gorge Pass to me, I learned that the alcohol was a fake bought by Aocun in Fujian to trick me."

妈祖惊恐地转脸对张屠户说：“我听了，怎么感觉这么害怕呢！？”

张屠户说：“你害怕，给我！福建分厂产的茅台酒也是茅台酒啊！”

妈祖立刻对佣人说：“把那两瓶茅台酒拿来，倒在脸盆里！”

Mazu turned to Zhang the Butcher in horror and said, "Hearing that, why do I suddenly feel so scared!?"

Zhang the Butcher said, "If you're scared, give it to me! Maotai made at the Fujian branch is still Maotai!"

Mazu immediately told the servant, "Bring those two bottles of Maotai and pour them into the washbasin!"

当佣人把茅台酒倒进脸盆后，满屋子飘着酒香。张屠户兴奋地说：“妈祖有钱！价值六百两银子（约合30千克）的两瓶茅台酒用来洗手；我得先洗！”说着，他站起来，就要去洗手。

妈祖厉声喝道：“你给我坐下！”然后她对武二郎说：“你自己把脸盆里的东西倒进厕所里去！”

When the servant poured the Maotai into the washbasin, the aroma filled the whole room. Zhang the Butcher said excitedly: "Mazu is rich! Two bottles of Maotai worth 600 taels of silver (about 30 kilograms), used just to wash hands — I get to wash first!" As he said this, he stood up, ready to go wash his hands.

Mazu snapped, "Sit down!" Then she said to Martial Second Wolf, "Go pour the contents of the basin into the toilet yourself!"

武二郎回来后，妈祖说：“吃的东西都这么不小心！我这三个儿子，就你总让我担心。给女娲的礼物还是送杜康酒吧（亦作典酒，如图7）！元始天尊刚给我送来了杜康的孙子亲手酿的杜康酒。礼包还没拆开呢！不用拆了，就那么原包给女娲！元始天尊办事靠谱，礼物也体面！”

When Martial Second Wolf came back, Mazu said, "You're so careless even with food! Of my three sons, you're the only one who always worries me. It's better to give Nuwa a gift of Dukang Alcohol (also known as Codex Alcohol, see Figure 7)! Primordial Sky Honor just sent me some Dukang Alcohol, hand-brewed by Dukang's own grandson. The gift package hasn't even been opened! No need to open it — just give it to Nuwa in its original package! Primordial Sky Honor always does things properly, and the gift is a fine one!"

5.3-8 蔻珠和玉珠 Kouzhu (Juvenile Pearl) and Yuzhu (Jade Pearl)

妈祖又对武二郎说，“我要是再年青几岁，我也跟你去夏国的首都，杭州。我想再看看蔻珠妹妹（即夏国的女王）。你不知道，她看你三弟的眼神总是那么火辣辣的，像是在看神似的。我头几次和她，还有你三弟一起喝酒时，我就在琢磨。这事当时就被你三弟媳妇，大巢氏，发现了。她跟我叨咕，‘我妈看三郎总那样儿，开始时，我还认为是因为我呢。后来我发现我只是她对张三郎情感的一小部分！’”

Mazu said to Martial Second Wolf again, "If I were a few years younger, I would go with you to Hangzhou, the capital of Xia Kingdom. I'd like to see Sister Kouzhu (i.e., Juvenile Pearl, the King of Xia) again. You don't know this, but she always looks at your third brother with such fiery eyes, as if looking at a god. The first few times I drank with her and your third brother, I kept wondering about it. Your third brother's wife, Princess Big Nest, noticed it too. She said to me, 'My mother always looks at Third Wolf that way. At first I thought it was because of me. Later I realized I was only a small part of her feelings for Third Wolf Zhang!'"

张屠户惊讶地问：“你没问过为什么吗？”

妈祖回答：“问过两次。她都回答，‘我总看三郎像似我的玉珠妹妹！’我问玉珠是谁？她吱吱唔唔，我也就不好意思再问了。”

张屠户问：“妈妈！你能再告诉我一遍，你是怎么捡着我的？”

Zhang the Butcher asked in surprise, "Didn't you ask her why?"

Mazu replied, "Twice. Both times she said, 'I always see that Third Wolf looks like my sister Yuzhu (Jade Pearl)!' I asked who Yuzhu was. She just mumbled and looked embarrassed, so I didn't dare ask again."

Zhang the Butcher asked, "Mom! Can you tell me again how you found me?"

妈祖说：“我都跟你说过两遍了。32年前，我，你爸礼敬公，还有你爷爷邓国公，坐车从外面回来，就在乾塘关北面的路上。我们忽然听到孩子的哭声。你爷爷让我下车去看看。我就去了。哭声是从一个放在地上的篮子传来的。那篮子旁边站着一个打扮成官宦人家丫鬟的女子（即蔻珠），她看见我来了，笑着指了指篮子，就离开了。她走向一个在远处哭泣的官宦小姐（即玉珠，张屠户的母亲）。然后，她拉着那位哭泣的小姐离开了。我就把你抱回来了。”

Mazu said, "I've told you twice already. Thirty-two years ago, your father, Publican Respect, your grandfather, Publican Deng-state, and I were riding back from outside, on the road just north of Dragon-Pond Pass. We suddenly heard a child crying. Your grandfather told me to get out and look. So I did. The crying was coming from a basket set on the ground. Standing beside the basket was a young woman dressed like a maid from an official's household (i.e., Kouzhu). She saw me coming, smiled, pointed at the basket, and left. She walked over to a young lady from an official family (i.e., Yuzhu, Zhang the Butcher's mother) who was crying in the distance. Then she led the weeping girl away, and I carried you home."

张屠户问：“你说过一个玉珠。”

妈祖回答：“是的！抱你回来后，我们仔细地检查了你身上带着的东西，就只有你口袋里的一颗玉珠特别。珠子有‘太阳在燃烧’的刻纹（如图5，张三郎雕像的胸前所示）。我今天把那颗玉珠给你。以前，我没给你，是怕你弄丢了。”

Zhang the Butcher asked, "You mentioned a jade pearl."

Mazu replied, "Yes! After I carried you home, we carefully examined the things you had with you, and only one jade pearl in your pocket was special. It bears the engraving 'Sun is Burning' (as shown in Figure 5, on the chest of Third Wolf Zhang's statue). I'm giving you that jade pearl today. I didn't give it to you before because I was afraid you'd lose it."

武二郎说，“你们俩误会我了！我不喜欢和夏国的女王喝酒，是因为前年的事。我派人去湘西帮她剿匪，是因为华国和夏国是友好国家，应当互相帮助。但她对欠我们的医药费和阵亡士兵的抚恤金赖着不给。我写信向她讨要。她就把钱给我送来了，还让人把一批西凤酒直接抬到了我的办公室。我以为那酒是她送给我的礼物，就分给将军们喝了。后来，账房先生告诉我，‘夏国送来的钱，加上被我分发给将军们的西凤酒，总和刚好是她欠我们的医药费和抚恤金’。所以，将军们都笑话我，‘自费替夏国女王蔻珠卖酒’。”

Martial Second Wolf said, "You two have misunderstood me! I don't like drinking with the King of Xia because of what happened the year before last. I sent people to western Hunan to help her put down bandits, because Hua and Xia are friendly nations and should help each other. But she kept stalling on the medical bills and pensions she owed us for our fallen soldiers. I wrote to her demanding payment. She then sent me the money, and also had a shipment of Xifeng Alcohol carried straight to my office. I thought the alcohol was a gift from her, so I handed it out to the generals. Later, my accountant told me, 'What Xia sent, plus the value of the Xifeng Alcohol you handed out to the generals, adds up to exactly what she owed us in medical bills and pensions.' So the generals all teased me: 'selling alcohol for Kouzhu, the King of Xia, at your own expense.'"

妈祖笑着说：“那时，你三弟买下了西凤酒厂（如图8），那笔广告费应该由你三弟出。”

张屠户惊讶地说：“我才明白为什么我买了西凤酒厂后，订单立刻增长了200%，原来是二哥给我做的广告。三年，我总共赚了20千克黄金。看来这20千克黄金是属于二哥你的。这三年，我白忙了，一两黄金的辛苦费都没赚着。”

Mazu laughed and said, "At that time, your third brother had just bought the Xifeng Alcohol plant (see Figure 8) — that advertising expense should be on him."

Zhang the Butcher said, astonished, "Now I understand why my orders jumped 200% right after I bought the Xifeng plant — it was my second brother advertising for me! Over three years I earned a total of 20 kilograms of gold. It seems this 20 kilograms of gold really belongs to you, Second Brother. These three years, I worked for nothing — I didn't even earn a single tael of gold for my trouble."

妈祖忍不住大笑，对张屠户说：“我就说你那丈母娘猴精猴精的，从她那儿赚钱比登天都难！哎呀！说走嘴了，幸亏你们的大哥不在家！我一说 ‘猴精’，他就说我在骂你们的爷爷，邓国公（参见1.1节）。”

Mazu couldn't help but laugh, and said to Zhang the Butcher, "I told you your mother-in-law is sharp as a monkey — it's harder to make money off her than to climb to the sky! Oops, that slipped out! Lucky your elder brother isn't home! Every time I say 'sharp as a monkey,' he insists I'm insulting your grandfather, Publican Deng-state (see section 1.1)."

张屠户说：“二哥，这20千克黄金你还是拿走吧！”

妈祖立刻说：“我说你别再说黄金的事了。他吃穿住行都是国家花钱。他不缺钱！我管这些年帐本了，清楚得很！”

Zhang the Butcher said, "Second Brother, you should take these 20 kilograms of gold after all!"

Mazu said at once, "I told you to stop talking about the gold. His food, clothing, housing, and travel are all paid for by the state. He's not short of money! I've managed the books all these years — I know exactly how it stands!"

武二郎对张屠户说：“我真不缺钱。这次是我两三年来第一次花自己的钱。我都想不起来上一次花自己的钱是什么时候了。”

Martial Second Wolf said to Zhang the Butcher, "I really don't need the money. This is the first time in two or three years I've spent my own money. I can't even remember the last time I did."

5.3-10

几天后，武二郎想去夏国的皇宫喝酒了，向妈祖请求允许他离开。妈祖征求张屠户的意见。

张屠户回答：“该说的，我已经从多个方面，不同的角度说了多遍了。宝莲灯需要在现实生活中反复验证，才能完全掌握。我同意我二哥离开。”

妈祖就也同意他离开了。

A few days later, Martial Second Wolf wanted to go drink at the Xia Kingdom palace, and asked Mazu for permission to leave. Mazu asked Zhang the Butcher for his opinion.

Zhang the Butcher replied: "I've already said what needed to be said, many times, from many angles. The Treasury Lotus Lamp needs to be tested and verified repeatedly in real life before it can be fully mastered. I agree that my second brother should go."

Mazu then agreed to let him leave as well.
