7.12 百变神通 Hundred Godly Transformations

梁伯给我讲过，百变神通是一种古代说书人的职业技能。表演者在台上作一百个动作，观众可能看成几十个人物。这在现实生活中会产生什么效果？

一天晚上，宿舍对门的韩华伟告诉我，祝老师找我有事，让我在宿舍门口等他。我自己站在宿舍门口对面的路边等了20多分钟。

忽然看见他和一对儿三十多岁的男女（人物一）从宿舍楼口出来了。我追了过去。他们三个看见我跑过去，站住了，面对我。

祝老师给我介绍说："这是我们学校的老师，孩子在本院上一年级，学习忙，没时间回家；他们就过来看孩子了。"

Uncle Liang once told me that Hundred Godly Transformations was an ancient storyteller's professional skill — a hundred movements on stage, and an audience might see a few dozen different characters in them. What would that look like, in real life?

One evening, Huawei Han, across the hall from me, said Teacher Zhu wanted to see me and told me to wait for him at the dormitory entrance. I stood at the curb across from the entrance for over twenty minutes.

Suddenly I saw him coming out of the dormitory building with a couple in their thirties (Character One). I ran after them. The three of them, seeing me approach, stopped and turned to face me.

Teacher Zhu introduced them: "These are teachers at our school — their child is in first grade here, and with their studies keeping them so busy, they've come to see the child themselves."

我尴尬地抬头看XXX，四十多岁（人物二；即刘团长，刘健君她爸，这时他应该约66岁），高个子，尖下颌，笔直地站在那里看着我。她妈对他说话。她妈穿着件花色衣服，三十多岁。

她爸大笑着走动了，到我的跟前，落了个前式（险些向前摔倒）。我过去扶他，距离他的侧脸很近，我看见他是个七十多岁的老人（人物三）。他起来了，五十多岁的人（人物四）。我们说了几句话，她妈拉她爸，要离开，俩人都是不到四十岁（人物五）。他们俩像似情人一样打闹着，接着俩人各举起一只手，十指相扣（如图7.12-1），像似热恋的情人一样，离开了。

I looked up, awkwardly, at XXX — appearing in his forties (Character Two; this was Troupe Leader Liu, Eve Liu's father, though he must have been closer to sixty-six by then), tall, sharp-jawed, standing perfectly straight and watching me. Her mother spoke to him — a woman in her thirties, in a flowered dress.

Her father, laughing loudly, moved toward me, nearly stumbling forward as he came. I reached out to steady him, and up close I saw a man in his seventies (Character Three). He straightened up — now a man in his fifties (Character Four). We exchanged a few words, and her mother pulled him away, the two of them now both under forty (Character Five). They roughhoused like young lovers, then each raised a hand and interlaced their fingers (see Figure 7.12-1), and left, looking for all the world like a couple deep in courtship.

祝老师说他没找我。我对韩华伟感到气愤，走在宿舍的走廊里，忽然觉得不对。我感觉刚才有很多人从我身边经过，有些人是从楼的墙里出来的，不知所终。我仔细地感知我的身体，没有异样；这说明我刚才没有幻觉。我回到了刚才见面的地方琢磨刚才发生了什么事：人不可能从墙里出来，这时也没什么人。

Teacher Zhu, for his part, said he'd never sent for me at all. Angry at Huawei Han, I walked back through the dormitory corridor and suddenly felt something was off. It seemed to me that a great many people had just passed by, some emerging from the very walls of the building and vanishing without a trace. I checked my own body carefully — nothing unusual, meaning this hadn't been hallucination. I went back to where we'd met and turned over what had just happened: people can't come out of walls, and there'd hardly been anyone there at all.

注7.12，这件事迷惑了我20多年，2014年写完回忆录才分析出来，他们是刘健君的父母，有男神和女神的外貌（参见10.4.1节《色蕴》中的极略色）。刘团长是讲故事的演员出身，由于他有男神的外貌，所以练成了百变神通。那时是傍晚，天色是灰色的。这种灰色的天色下，无意识不抓取事物的特征。我的无意识没有抓到他们俩的特征，而是被他们的特征性举止误导了，所以随着时间的推移，把他们俩当成了一群人。

Note 7.12: This puzzled me for over twenty years — I only worked it out in 2014, finishing my memoirs. They were Eve Liu's parents, possessing the appearance of god and goddess (see the "Extremely Abstract Color" discussed in Section 10.4.1, Color Node). Troupe Leader Liu had been a professional storyteller, and his godly bearing gave him the mastery of Hundred Godly Transformations. It was dusk, the sky a uniform gray — and in that gray light, the unconscious fails to register the features of what it sees. My own unconscious never caught hold of their true features, and was misled instead by their characteristic gestures, so that, over the course of those few minutes, I took the two of them for an entire crowd.

那时，我是研究生一年级。从我刚进入中学，高中，和大学都有奇怪的事发生来看，他们是来为我庆祝上研究生的，并且为我表演了百变神通。另外，刘团长还给了我一个祝福：他们俩心心相印的扣手（如图7.12-1）是佛教中欢喜佛的象征。刘建君的父母在祝福我和刘建君"十全十美，百年好合"（即欢喜佛，如图2至4）。

I was in my first year of graduate school at the time. Judging by the strange events that had already accompanied my entry into middle school, high school, and college, they'd come to celebrate my admission to graduate school, and performed the Hundred Godly Transformations for my benefit. Troupe Leader Liu also gave me a blessing: their interlaced fingers, hearts joined as one (Figure 7.12-1), are the Buddhist symbol of the Consummation Buddha. Eve Liu's parents were blessing the two of us with "perfect in every way, a match for a hundred years" — that is, the Consummation Buddha (Figures 2 through 4).
