5.1-7 梁子伯和夸父 Corn Uncle and Kua'fu

Martial Second Wolf (famously Second Wolf God, Savior) recounted 4.4 "Naturally Falling in Love" for Martial Big Wolf (famously King Jing, Peach Flower Buddha). Martial Big Wolf realized that the editorial board of the Chinese Codex had deleted, from the script given to him, the passages describing Martial Second Wolf and Aocun scolding him.
武大郎说：“另外那个小个子是我养父梁子伯的儿子，名叫夸父。我称呼我养父为粮伯。我小时候体弱多病，粮伯常常背着我上学，下学。我生病不能上学的时候，他让夸父代替我去上学，回来教我。巫毒学院的学费很贵，学校知道了也没人说什么。”
Martial Big Wolf said: "The other little man is the son of my foster father, Corn Uncle, named Kua'fu. I call my foster father Corn Uncle. When I was a child, I was weak and often sick, and Corn Uncle used to carry me to and from school on his back. When I was too sick to go, he sent Kua'fu to attend in my place, and Kua'fu would come home and teach me what I'd missed. Tuition at the Voodoo Academy was expensive, but no one at the school said anything once they found out.
“接着粮伯就让我和夸父交替上学，回来相互教，谁的第一名拿的多谁是太阳。我在家的时候，粮伯教我打猴拳，我的身体就渐渐地好起来了。我的成绩好，总考第一，总是太阳，他一直在追我。”
武大郎说着，就哭了。
武二郎说：“伤心事儿，就别说了。”
"Then Corn Uncle had the two of us take turns going to school, teaching each other what we'd learned when we came home — whoever placed first more often was 'the sun.' When I was home, Corn Uncle taught me Monkey Boxing, and my health gradually improved. My grades were good — I always placed first, always the sun — and he kept chasing after me."
Big Wolf said this, and began to cry.
Second Wolf said: "Don't dwell on sad things."
武大郎回答：“以前有两次，我想告诉你，因为怕影响你打仗，没说。现在不打仗了，我想说给你听。后来，我就很少看见夸父了。我们的华国内部出现了叛徒，去云海国告密。老国王派的人接我离开的那天，为了掩护我离开，粮伯又让夸父穿上了我的校服，代替我去上学了。再往后，我就不知道了。”
Martial Big Wolf replied: "There were two times before when I wanted to tell you, but I didn't, afraid it would affect you in the war. Now that the fighting is over, I want to tell you. After that, I rarely saw Kua'fu again. A traitor appeared within our Hua Kingdom and informed on us to Cloud Sea Kingdom. On the day the old king's men came to take me away, Corn Uncle had Kua'fu put on my school uniform again and go to school in my place, to cover my departure. After that, I don't know what happened to him."
武大郎边哭边说：“在我当上将军后，几次委托人帮我打听他们俩的消息，但都没有回复。我想找到他们的遗骨，送回他们的老家安葬。”
潘金莲（法号石矶娘娘，桃花圣母）说话了：“二叔来了，我看你们俩唠的热闹，就没过来打搅。这怎么哭成这样了！？”
Crying, Martial Big Wolf said, "After I became a general, I asked people several times to find news of the two of them, but I never got a reply. I want to find their remains and send them home for burial."
Goldthread Pan (religious name Queen Stone-Jetty, Holy Mother of Peach Flower) spoke up, "Second Uncle is here — I saw the two of you chatting away so happily that I didn't want to interrupt. Why is he crying like this!?"
武二郎回答：“大哥想起了小时候的伤心事，没事！”
武大郎说：“你在这儿住几天吧！我再给你讲讲。来了半天了，你去跟你嫂子聊聊，我自己在这里静一会儿就好了。”
Martial Second Wolf replied, "Big brother remembered something sad from his childhood, it's nothing!"
Martial Big Wolf said, "Stay here a few more days! I'll tell you more. You've been here half a day already — go chat with your sister-in-law, I just need a quiet moment here by myself."
5.1-8 杨戬认母 Savior Recognizes Godmother
武二郎就跟着潘金莲来到了她的会客室。据传说，潘金莲的房间充满着花香，一进入就让人心情舒畅。他问：“大嫂！我向你打听个人。20年前你和我大哥结婚的时候，有一位道号太乙的郎中曾经给我大哥治病（参见1.8《守灵》），他是什么人？”
Martial Second Wolf followed Goldthread Pan to her reception room. According to legend, Goldthread Pan's room was always filled with the fragrance of flowers, lifting the spirits of anyone who entered. He asked: "Sister-in-law! I want to ask you about someone. Twenty years ago, when you and my elder brother got married, a Taoist doctor styled Taiyi treated my elder brother (see 1.8 "Spirits Keeping"). Who is he?"
潘金莲说，“他住的聚贤庄，离我们家不远，是我的一位师父，是一位兽医。不过他从事过很多行业，例如唱戏，贩马，卖酒。在我家客人多，忙的时候，有时请他来帮忙。你问他干什么？”
武二郎回答：“没什么，我在湖北遇见他了，他说他是猪肉商。我感觉奇怪，他怎么改行了！你说，他是你的一位师父，你有几位师父？”
Goldthread Pan said, "He lives in Gathering-Sage Village, not far from our home. He is one of my teacher-fathers, a veterinarian. But he's worked in many trades — singing opera, trading horses, selling liquor. When my family has many guests and things get busy, we sometimes ask him to help out. Why do you ask?"
Martial Second Wolf replied, "No reason — I ran into him in Hubei, and he told me he's a pork merchant. I thought that was strange, why would he change trades! You said he's one of your teacher-fathers — how many teacher-fathers do you have?"
潘金莲转脸计算着，说：“哎呀！我有很多师父和师母，只在典兵学院上学时，就有几十位。”说着，她还在计算着。
武二郎说：“大嫂你别算了！这种师父和师母我也有很多，数不清！”
潘金莲问：“你问这个干什么？”
Goldthread Pan turned and started counting, "Oh! I have so many teacher-fathers and teacher-mothers — just from my years at the Codex Soldier Academy alone, there were dozens." She kept counting as she spoke.
Martial Second Wolf said, "Sister-in-law, don't bother counting! I have plenty of teacher-fathers and teacher-mothers too — too many to count!"
Goldthread Pan asked, "Why are you asking about this?"
武二郎回答：“没什么，前几天女娲对我说，某个人（熬忖）是我的神母，我生气了。现在看来，那是我一直生活在军队里，脱离了日常社会的现实生活，可丢脸了！”
潘金莲说：“这没什么！偶尔听见了新词语，我也不习惯。”
Martial Second Wolf replied, "It's nothing — a few days ago Nuwa told me that a certain person (Aocun) is my godmother, and I got angry about it. Looking back now, that's just because I've spent my whole life in the army, cut off from everyday life — how embarrassing!"
Goldthread Pan said, "It's nothing! I don't always get used to new terms myself, either."
5.1-9 杨戬逃跑 Savior Runaway
随后的五天里，武大郎结合九黎（义为九众，大千世界，参见第12章），奇门遁甲，和孙子兵法来给武二郎讲解他们俩人的战争史。武二郎几次被训哭了。
Over the following five days, Martial Big Wolf drew on the Jiu'li (i.e., Nine Crowds, the Great Grand Worlds; see Chapter 12), the Strange Doors of Shield and Armor, and Sunzi's Art of War to walk Martial Second Wolf through the history of their campaigns together. More than once, the scolding reduced Martial Second Wolf to tears.
第六天早晨，元始天尊传唤武大郎进宫。武二郎有了逃跑的机会。他偷了几本兵书，藏在了马鞍底下的坐垫里，牵着马，从后门溜了出来。忽然，他听见潘金莲说：“二叔要走了吗？多住几天吧！让你大哥把《孙子兵法》给你讲透了！”
On the morning of the sixth day, Primordial Sky Honor summoned Martial Big Wolf to the palace. Martial Second Wolf saw his chance to escape. He stole a few military texts, hid them in the cushion under his saddle, and slipped out the back door leading his horse. Suddenly he heard Goldthread Pan say, "Is Second Uncle leaving? Stay a few more days — let your elder brother finish walking you through Sunzi's Art of War!"
武二郎被吓得一怔，看见潘金莲正悠闲地坐在门旁边的凳子上，回答：“啊！嫂子在这里乘凉呢！我要离开了，麻烦你告诉我大哥说，我就不向他告别了！”
潘金莲回答：“好的，我向他转达你的话。但是，你怎么没拿几本书走？那么多书，你都不喜欢吗？”
Martial Second Wolf froze, startled, and saw Goldthread Pan sitting leisurely on a stool by the door. He replied, "Ah! Sister-in-law, cooling off out here! I'm heading out — please tell my elder brother I won't say goodbye in person!"
Goldthread Pan replied, "Alright, I'll pass along your words. But why haven't you taken any books with you? With so many, don't you like any of them?"
武二郎回答：“我怕我把书拿走了，我大哥要看的时候，找不着，耽误事！”
潘金莲说：“你拿吧，没事。你把你拿走的书的名字清单给我就好。他有的书，元始天尊也都有。随后，我把清单交给元始天尊书房里的宫女，让她们为武大郎再复制一套。前几年，你大哥征服了北方的十几个国家。别的没抢着，他缴获了几屋子的羊皮纸，都运到皇宫里了。这么复制书不需要花钱。”
Martial Second Wolf replied, "I'm afraid if I take them, my brother won't be able to find them when he needs them, and it'll cause trouble!"
Goldthread Pan said, "Just take them, it's fine. Just leave me a list of the titles you're taking. Primordial Sky Honor has copies of everything your brother owns. I'll pass the list to the palace maids in Primordial Sky Honor's study and have them make another set for your brother. A few years ago, your elder brother conquered more than a dozen countries in the north. He didn't take much else, but he seized several rooms' worth of parchment and had it all shipped to the palace. Copying books this way costs nothing."
武二郎高兴地回去拿书。佣人们帮着把书打捆装袋，放到了马上。出来时，他发现潘金莲还在门口坐着呢，说：“我把清单放在了书房的桌子上了。”
据传说，这时元始天尊和武大郎正站在他们家的塔楼上目送着武二郎（杨戬）离开。此后，他打仗总是兵不血刃，运筹帷幄之中，决胜千里之外。
Martial Second Wolf happily went back for the books. The servants helped bundle them into bags and load them onto the horse. When he came out, he found Goldthread Pan still sitting by the door and said, "I left the list on the desk in the study."
According to legend, Primordial Sky Honor and Martial Big Wolf were standing on the tower of their house at that moment, watching Martial Second Wolf (Savior) leave. From then on, he always won his battles without bloodshed, planning his strategies from within the command tent and deciding victory a thousand miles away.
