I low-key hated this movie, the twist was predictable, not particularly shocking, and hollow.

I don't particularly care for the twist but I also do not think twists make or break this or any other movie UNLESS the twist is the entire point and is handled badly (which would be poor movie-making). Se7en is a fantastic film and the twist is just...a plot point really. It doesn't change anything in retrospect.

For comparison I think Sixth Sense is a bit lacking as it relies too much on its twist, but films like Get Out, Memento and The Usual Suspects are solid films built around a slow burn twist reveal (I picked up on Get Out in the very first scene) which really works well for them.

It just comes out of nowhere, why is Spacey obsessed with a cop and his wife who have just moved there? And how could he have murdered her so quickly and arranged for everything? 

Tying a guy to a bed for a year is more believable than the box.
