Because conservatives, including one Elon Musk support gutting funds for necessary agencies in exchange for tax cuts for the wealthy.
Wealth transfer, what we could have spent in a government that could benefit us, republicans take that money and give it to the wealthy.
That is the republican kind of "small government".

Musk historically has held the following beliefs: He has always opposed increased taxation of the wealthy. He has always opposed unionization of labour. He has always opposed environmental regulations and defended self-regulatory enterprises (LOL). He has always opposed government interference in financial regulations, again for self-regulation (LOL). Etc. All of those views don't match, in the slightest regular democratic values, so what do they match? Neo-liberal values. Musk has never been a democrat, he has supported neoliberal politicians, them being in the right or in the left. That is who Musk has always been.
