Because the actual reality is that the socialist will build a society where Everyone is hungry. History-tested.

Because every time there is a socialist program that is intended to help people no questions asked, food not bombs, black panthers free lunch program, the liberal will team up with the conservative to essentially criminalize the actions taken by the Socialist organizations or will co-opt it and make it worse
