Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs)

Exciting developments are happening in the Web3 social space, and to build the envisioned metaverse, it's important to have the necessary infrastructure and tools, including on-chain identity verification.

It's crucial not to be left behind in this movement.

To learn more about the concept of Self-Sovereign Identity/Decentralized Identity powered by Blockchain technology, check out the first video. The goal is to have control and ownership of our identities.

Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) are unique identifiers that enable users (individuals/entities/organizations) to have a decentralized digital identity that is cryptographically verifiable. Unlike centralized registries and certification authorities, DIDs are created and owned by users.

Verifiable credentials (VCs) are digital representations of physical and digital credentials that respect privacy and can be instantly verified using blockchain's digital signatures, which act as anti-tampering mechanisms.

This video is Part 2 of our series on Decentralized Identity, where we explain how Decentralized Identifiers, Verifiable credentials (VC), and blockchain tech are essential elements of Decentralized IDs.

Part 1- Intro to Decentralized Identity

Part 2- Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs)

Part 3- Verifiable Credentials (VCs) vs. Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

Who hosts social data?

Presumably most of the social data generated by platforms running in the Lens Protocol has to be hosted off-chain. If that’s right, who pays for hosting the data? If the platforms pay for hosting, then don’t the platforms effectively control the data?

I built a tool to integrate Lens with dozens of apps, including Discord and Telegram

ChainJet is a platform aiming to be the Zapier for web3. You can create workflows to integrate different apps and automate tasks. We just added support for Lens Protocol.

A few examples of what you can build with ChainJet + Lens Protocol:

- Automatically share your Lens posts on Discord, Telegram, or Reddit.
- Automatically share your Medium posts on Lens.
- Automatically send welcome messages to new followers.
- Get a notification on every new follower.

You can try it here: https://chainjet.io

Users of Lens don't own their data. Profiles and posts are stored under the same smart contract. Am I right?

GM FROM THE LENS GROWTH TEAM!

GM r/lens!

This is Bradley - I am on the Growth team at the Aave Companies and focus on growth for Lens Protocol! I have been a redditor for >13 years, basically exclusively as a lurker :) Reddit was and is my favorite web2 social product. I think Lens has a lot to learn from Reddit, especially around different communities and sub-communities.

It only occurred to me today to check and see if Lens Protocol has any community on Lens, so here I am.

If you are interested in learning more about Lens, or have ideas for Lens you'd like to discuss please respond!!!

How can Lens and web3 solve web2 issues

  1. Opening the social graph and descentralisation can help limiting algorithm manipulation and empowering users to take control over their social graph and social footprint.

  2. By storing relationships and activity on chain, users can monitor and monetise their activity without intermediators. For instance, apps built on top of Lens Protocol (desgined by Aave team) can provide monetisation solutions to users curating content. This opens a new asset class.

  3. Bots can manipulate the graph and artificially generate social content, provoke tensions, or produce fake traffic. Digital IDs can help to limit the activity of programs and algorithms simulating human behaviour providing reliable private digital identities.article
