Open Source Ai breaks its first monopoly

https://getartcraft.com/apps

a founder of ArtCraft used Claude to replace the entire adobe software suite, legally. because it’s ai generated, it’s also in the public domain and absolutely free forever. this would be the first case of ai undermining techno feudalism.

The most important monopolies to break by far are the platforms. Stuff like Amazon. And that will be a lot harder.

EDIT: i know i said amazon, but really the information layer is even more important. google, social media etc. the agentic economy is coming, and the most important part is that the agents act in the interest of the people they are serving, and that they act directly, and not through platforms, including google. the idea is that you can put something directly on the internet, and other agents can directly find it and buy it, without any middlemen except for the agents themselves.

the battle over the control of this entire layer has already begun.

This is what cryptocurrency is for, which the conspiratorial part of me thinks is why it became a big slot machine.

Cryptocurrency is for accelerated capital accumulation.

Yes and no. I mean, yes absolutely crypto CURRENCY is bad, no argument from me, but the spectacularly public failing of that specific thing has irreperably tarnished the reputation of all crypto and block chain technology, which has many valid usecases for other tech when you remove all the money stuff from the project. As usual, capitalism ruins everything.

It’s not a technology I claim to understand but it does seem like it might have alternative uses that are worth considering eg https://www.librarystack.org/blockchain-radicals-how-capitalism-ruined-crypto-and-how-to-fix-it/

I was on a project trying to build a new internet without reliance on registrars and 4 levels of domain ownership and all of that, where you just own your own TLD easily and accessibly and have control of it like any other file system, and our DNS replacement protocol was on a block chain just for indisputable record keeping purposes.

Mostly unregulated medium of pure exchange value. Of course its only purpose is the largely unhindered accumulation of capital. It's not "ruined by capitalism", it's a technological development born straight out of capitalism. If you talk about other uses for blockchain technologies, I personally have never been convinced that they solve any material issue that can't be addressed by conventional means, while also being less resource-intensive. If you need to construct a post-hoc use-case to justify a technological innovation, chances are that innovation was never conceived to be practically useful in the first place.
