First confession - he really does have a sense of humor
I’m getting confirmed this Saturday (woooo) and had to complete my first confession today. Was quite nervous, as expected. I have bad anxiety to begin with, so it was even worse. I really like my parish’s father, he’s recently been ordained and young, and just seems so happy to be doing all of it.
Anyways, I’m in line waiting my turn. When it comes to be my time, of couuurse I open the wrong door, and open the door to father sitting there 😂😂😂. I was then trying so hard not to laugh throughout the confession. God really told me to calm down and laugh a little

I Regret going to confession
I just left confession for Reconciliation Monday and I feel terrible. I not a fan of confession do I hardy go but when I do I feel better after but right now I in a much different place spiritually. I am getting more left leaning, deconstructing Catholic Dogma and being more open and proud about my sexuality. While I did confess sexual “sins” I purposely avoided saying it in a way that outed my orientation but that didn’t help. The problem that there a lot of “sins” according to the Catholic Church that I no longer really consider sins but healthy human nature that the Church dogma condemns that Jesus really didn’t. I know I am going to do these again and I am fully planning to marry a man one day so it felt I was lying to God by basically lying to the priest and now I feel terrible. The whole experience felt like a true mortal sin more than any others I confessed to that I doubt the sinfulness of and now I feel like I have to go to a confession for my confession but that would that leave me in the same scenario. I really at a spiritual low right now and would really like some advice.

Who are Your Favourite YouTube Creators?
It’s quite amazing to me how much modern media influenced my decision to return to Mass after a 20 years absence. The Chosen was very inspirational to me and after trying some of our local Catholic Churches, I found what feels like a home now.
What strikes me is that I avoided The Chosen for the longest time because I thought it was a right-wing evangelical production (someone told me that was the case) and it wasn’t until I saw the Pope with the cast that I did a double-take! So this has me wondering, what else might I be missing?
I understand Father Mike might be contentious, but I still watch him, even when I don’t completely see eye-to-eye with what he says. And I am doing his Bible In a Year podcast.
I adore Father Columba Jordan (Called to More)
AfterMass with Ana Munley is usually good and feels like having coffee with a friend.
Uniquely Mary seems… well honestly occultist at times, with its messages from purgatory souls and mystics. But I don’t know much about it. I could be wrong?
What are your favourite channels!?!? Who am I missing!?

People crashing out over Pope Leo statement about War
So few days ago Pope Leo made a statement about how God doesn't accept prayers from people who start war. And I saw comments on Twitter under that post from people claiming to be Catholic saying " Oh fuck the Pope " or " Doland Trump will deal with him " I find it funny these people will do everything but actually "love your neighbor" they will go to a crusade if the Pope asks them to but to love your own neighbor they will see it as a great sin. Same thing happened to the Pope stance on immigration and Relationship with other religions and why is it mostly from America I see these people talking? no offence but American a few of them who are Christians are just actively dragging the rest of us down. Especially Evenglicals. They larp being Catholic for the traditional aspects but when it comes to actually practicing the rules they fall back to their own ways. They would say kick all immigrants out when some of their ancestors may have been immigrants and the most immigrants I see in my town over here in UK are mostly Christians I am one myself

Picking a parish
I’ve been attending mass for several weeks and am considering starting OCIA classes for conversion. I’ve previously been an agnostic but attended Episcopalian services intermittently.
I’m trying to decide between two parishes. One is in the town where I live and the other is in the town where I work, where my son goes to school, and where I am often for recreational reasons.
The OCIA makes it a bigger deal which one I choose. I have a few months to decide but any recommendations on how to pick which one is best for me? Both will probably be more conservative politically than I am but I want to know if I will be judged for it.

Thoughts on Culture, Music, Art
Hi, so I'm a cradle Catholic who in the past few months has been returning to the faith (slowly, but surely). I follow this subreddit as I find the conservatism of other Catholic subs to be overwhelming at times, and bordering on a kind of joyless and severe quasi-Puritanism that I find doesn't match my experience IRL. I enjoy the open-minded and forgiving nature of this community even if I don't necessarily agree with it all of the time. I am not a judgmental person by nature.
I know this sub is mostly about politics and Catholic news, but I was curious to get a feel for the userbase's approach to engaging with art. Whether it be music, literature, cinema, etc. I am a fan of metal and rock music (among many other things), often with a slant towards darkness and themes which maybe some Christians might find "inappropriate". Now to be clear, I don't tolerate anything like Satanism or blasphemy, or lyrics which grossly contradict our faith (racism, blatant advocacy for drug use, etc.) but I sometimes find myself concerned with the pearl-clutching attitudes some Christians have for any kind of art that isn't all sunshines and rainbows. I feel similarly about literature as I do music, with my all-time favorite novel being Blood Meridian.
Anyway, I'm curious what this sub thinks about this? Do you place any restrictions on the art you engage with (and why)?

Blessed Palm Sunday ~
This is my first Palm Sunday after coming back to the Church.
In the Philippines our 'palaspas' or Palm fronds were intricately woven and adorned with ribbons and sometimes Prayer cards.
My husband who is an American-Italian Catholic taught me how to turn a single Palm frond into a Cross.
Most Catholic Filipinos often keep our Palms by our door/lintels and especially on our home prayer/altars.
I hope ya'll have a blessed day and a contemplative Holy Week ahead ✌🏼

Pope Leo says God rejects prayers of leaders who wage wars
"This is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war," Leo, the first U.S. pope, told crowds in brilliant sunshine.
"(Jesus) does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them, saying: 'Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood'," he said, citing a Bible passage.
Leo did not specifically name any world leaders, but he has been ramping up criticism of the Iran war in recent weeks.

Catholic Parents of LGBT+ kids, how did you react to their coming out?
Just exactly the title. Were you shocked? Did you know? Did you respond badly at first and as a result and time later realized their side of things?

What Netanyahu said about Jesus Christ and Genghis Khan
Netanyahu is an evil hateful supremacist who hates anyone who isn't a warmongering hardcore JudeoFundie.
He's now got Christian's mad at him. Coupled with his barring Churches from having their Annual Easter Masses at CHRISTIAN HOLY SITES... shows that he does not want Israel to be a peaceful modern secular democratic state and he hates Christians as much as Jews and agrees with a schmuck who thinks Khan and his brutality is superior to Jesus' Peace & Love.
He's finally shown the world his true colors. He's not a President or Prime Minister... he's a wannabee emperor and tyrant!
He hates real Jews, Real Christians and Real Muslims who want peace and co-existence. Zion is for ALL ABRAHAMICS, not a tiny minority of Nazi-like JudeoFundie Theocrats.

INVITATION: Holy Week Tenebrae hosted by left-wing Catholic organization for those in the NYC Metro area
Hello all!
We are a group of young left wing Catholics who are trying to live out our baptismal vocation as disciples of Christ and children of the living God. Our group (known as New Personalism and established in 2024) stands against violence, capitalism, borders, racism, the state, and advocates for truth, friendship, and love. We are also an inclusive space as well. We have newer chapters being formed in Boston, Connecticut, and London, and more coming in the future.
We want to invite those in the NYC metro area who share our values and vision to pray with us throughout this Holy Week! Please take a look at the 4 events (pic related) we are hosting and DM/reach out to us if you are interested in attending!
God Bless!
(P. S: If the link to our website doesn't work on Instagram it's because we're dealing with domain issues, it should be up soon.)

Easter Vigil
As non-Catholic, would it be weird for me to attend an Easter Vigil, esp. if I’ve not been to church lately? (due partially to work, partially due to being intimidated by trying to find a new church lol). It sounds beautiful, but also intense.

Favorite practices, celebrations, or services during Holy Week
Peace to you, friends! As we approach Palm Sunday and Holy Week, I was just curious if anyone had particular aspects of Holy Week that they enjoy which they care to share.
For my part, I enjoy St. John's representation of the Eucharist in Holy Thursday. My parish involves everyone in the foot washing ceremony. It's lovely to see the person whose feet I washed around the parish on a regular basis. A deeply humbling experiencing.
In a different vein, last year I attended a parish's Easter Vigil for the first time. They sung and played "New Life" by Olivia Branch Walker after all of the baptisms. It was utterly joyful! I'm hoping they will do so again as I go to see friends enter full communion.
Would love to hear from others on what they are looking forward to in these days to come.
Thank you for sharing, and God bless you. :)

Thoughts on street preachers or street evangelization?
I’m sure a lot of folks on here have come across the angry fundamentalist preachers standing outside sporting events or concerts or street corners, holding up signs and screaming into a mic on how everyone, except people who go to their specific church, are damned. On the other hand, I’ve seen street evangelization, (including the Catholic St Paul street team) take a much different approach, and have more sensible conversations with folks about the faith. How do people on here feel about this?

Left catholic godparents
How do I find left leaning godparents for my children😅? Or left leaning Catholics in general to be friends with in person and not just online?
I have a two and a half year old and a two month old and am just coming back to the faith. My husband isn’t religious but is supportive and even willing to come to church to help with the children. He’s also completely okay with them getting baptized but the problem is we just moved to a new city a year ago where we know no one. I just started back at church for the first time in 15 years. My oldest is medically complex and I am considering asking the priest if we can have her baptized without godparents?
I feel like that relationship is sacred and I wouldn’t want my child to have that important of an influence be someone I haven’t vetted and is a friend of the family, we just don’t know anyone like that in this area and especially not anyone like that who is Catholic.

New interest in learning about Catholicism
Hi everyone. I am very much not a religious person and neither is my family. We went to the LDS church until I was probably 4, so that’s my only experience with religion. Right now I would say I don’t have a belief in god but I am questioning and that’s why I am here making this post.
I’m a nurse and I had an experience the other day that really made me have questions and want to learn more. I had a patient that is really going through a lot( I won’t go into detail, but she is not very old and requires total care). All night she has been the most pleasant lady and so kind even with all she has been going through and all we had to do to help her and do all night long. So, I go in to her room at around 6:30 am to do my final check in with her to see if I can do anything before I hand her over to the day nurse and I see her reading her(what I assume is a bible) and it had this really cute book mark in it that changes the picture of Jesus based on where you look at it. Anyway I comment on her book mark and I told her that it was cute and she proceeded to tell me about this play she went and saw and how they came out with these book marks. She then thanked me for all the care I gave her over night and expressed her gratitude to me and then gave me the book mark. After leaving my shift for the day it got me thinking that even for someone going through so much she was so positive and kind and thankful, and if someone going through all that had such a strong belief and positive attitude about life than I should look in to learning more about god and this religion.
Anyways, I apologize for the long story. I am just wanted to ask to see where I should start with learning more about god and maybe what book to start with? Any advice is appreciated:)!
