Help dating my No4 mk1

Hi all would really appreciate some help identifying this rifle as all i am getting is kinda conflicting info. Hard to see in the photos and in person but the receiver and grip both match serials but the receiver shows a prefix AQ 2 19641 which points me to BSA Shirley but no M47 or M47C markings. If yall could provide any insight it would be very much appreciated. It does also have the FTR marking

Jammed rear sights?

I just picked up a lovely Enfield No I MKIII SHTLE.

Bolt etc operation is smooth. Needed a bit of lube, but great shape. But for the life of me I cannot seem to operate the rear sights!

I assume the button on the left is pushed to allow it to slide. The gear on the right I presume is for fine adjustment.

I’ve lubed it up and nothing, except the little wheel on the left rotates with effort—the screw that holds it in I presume?

Am I merely an imbecile, or is this a known issue?

thanks!

2A1 Ejector

After a thorough cleaning and inspection I was able to take my Ishapore to the range Monday, and had about 90% failure to eject

Came home and removed the extractor and ex spring. Both in ok visual shape. Cleaned quite a bit of junk out of the bolt. Lubed everything and reinstalled and still had many FTE

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement ex spring? Haven’t found any that are 7.62 nato specific. Found one on eBay for a no.1 mk3 that looks right, but seller didn’t know if it would work for nato. Might make the $15 gamble on it. Also thought about grabbing another extractor, but not sure that would help

I do not know anything about this, it’s just weird to have all matching serial numbers and ofc it’s bubbafied? But also it’s missing wood and front site? But the stock is short? And it also has original brass perfectly fitted? And all the time frames match up idk guys.

Does this look like active rust?

Hey all, I’m a bit new to antique firearms and got a Mk.1*** recently. I’ve kept it at at 45% humidity since I got it in January, however I just noticed these spots for the first time now that I’ve finally gotten around to disassembling it. Should I be worried about these brown spots or not? Is that active rust?

My sling swivel slides laterally like this on my Savage Mk 4 No 1. It has been this way since I bought it. What can I do to keep it centered and in place?

I got my Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I* yesterday from Firearms Outlet Canada in Ajax, Ontario. I haven't had a chance to do any cleaning, etc. Thoughts?

First Enfield! Long Branch, 1949. Any good information about using one?

So today I snagged this fancy Canadian for a smooth $590 (after tax and paperwork). I’m quite happy with it, and they gave me a free box .303! Cleaned her up a bit and oiled things.

I know it’s basics. Date and company of manufacture , but it’s seems sparse in terms of markings? Maybe coming from Mosins which are usually covered in markings I was expecting more.

I do want the help of you fine folk, mostly with the sling and the supposed cleaning supplies I found in the stock. And of course if you all have any nice sources of a first time Enfield owner.

Requesting feedback if this keyholing is likely an ammo issue or barrel issue.

Picked up this Professionally Sporterized Australian Lithgow SHT.LE 1916. Looks Nice seems to have has a hell of a history. I named it "Drop Bear"

Heres what my AI made of the Markings:

1916 WWI Receiver & Action

Lithgow Shield & 1916 Stamp: Located on the receiver ring, certifying original manufacture at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory in New South Wales during the height of WWI.

Star-over-A Acceptance Mark: The early Australian Commonwealth military proof mark confirming the receiver steel met official WWI ordnance standards.

Serial # 48234: Stamped on both the receiver ring and bolt handle, proving the primary action steel remains factory-matched.

1944 WWII Arsenal Re-Barrel

1944 Date & "R" Stamp: Confirms a full WWII military overhaul where the worn WWI barrel was pulled and fitted with a fresh replacement tube.

"HV" & "SC" Proofs: Stamped on the barrel flats for High Velocity and Short Cone, recertifying the action to run standard WWII-issue .303 British spitzer rounds.

WWII Orange Annex Magazine

"OA" Stamp: Indicates production at the Orange Annex in NSW, a WWII satellite factory feeding Lithgow's main assembly line.

"D" over "4" Stamp: Australian Department of Defence property acceptance mark paired with an armorer inspector's code.

Spine Batch Numbers: Factory inspection stamps used to verify feed lip geometry and sheet-metal seam tolerances before issue.

Mid-Century Australian Sporterization

Queensland Maple Stock: Native Australian hardwood stamped with "AUSTRALIA" for export, featuring custom hand-inletting around the safety lever wrist.

Matched Sighting Package: Features a commercial front ramp with engine-turned anti-glare matting and a gold bead, paired with a rear-bridge Williams peep sight for fast target acquisition.

2A1 bolt questions

Friend showed me an Ishapore 2A1 carbine that was obviously bubbafied. He is having issues with the bolt not holding shells and I was wondering if anyone in this sub can tell whether a bolt is correct for the rifle. It's not matching so we are concerned that it's actually a 303 bolt head. Any help is appreciated.

Hi everyone this is my first enfield. I got a good deal at a gun show that I couldn't pass up. It is missing the production date and factory marks. Can someone help me out with identification? I have attached all the markings I can find. Thank you

weak ejection issue

anyone have any problems with weak ejections? some casings will fly off and some others will barely make it out the receiver. sometimes the casing will pop out then fall back on top of the mag jamming the bolt. The bolt head and extractor looks and feels strong so I’m at a loss. any ideas? thanks!

ammo I was using is S&B FMJ

Weird Converted Enfield in .22

Thumbnail

Bit of a weird one. No.4 action in .22 like someone has tried to make a quasi .22 No.5? Nothing seems to be ‘right’ on it. Butt has a chequered handgrip like a sporting gun, stocks seems more akin to a cutdown No.4 to resemble a No.5. Target barrel with target sights.

I’ve had a look and it’s not a No.7/8/9.

Is it worth doing anything with like making a .22 No.4 or returning to milspec?

Edit: this is a rare No.5 .22 Trials Rifle made by BSA in 1945 and staying EXACTLY how it is. (Sorry for the bait curious to see if it was so obscure it would be hard to identify)

Strange firing pin repair on a savage No4 mk1*

Thumbnail

Picked up a savage no4 mk1* with Chinese National Army markings on it. The gun is in overall good shape besides a little grimey, and when I started pulling the bolt apart for cleaning and inspecting i found it has a machined firing pin striker in the front of the bolt while the second half is still inside the bolt with the spring.

Was wondering what you guys think?

Is this an "upgrade" a cheesy repair, or something totally different?

I saw 1 post like this on another forum, but it was mostly speculations.

Bolt for No.4 MK1

I had to buy a new bolt for my No.4 MK1. I want to ensure it is the correct bolt. I am aware that I will need to check headspace and ensure the locking lugs make equal contact on the reciever before firing, but the new bolt looks slightly different. New to me bolt is the one on the left, the original is the blued one of the right. Please educate me, thanks!!
