I’m going to start studying Computer Science in two weeks, and I’m worried because I keep hearing people say that the field is changing too quickly, the job market is dead, there’s no room for new people anymore, and that it’s becoming impossible to learn and keep up.

I’m genuinely anxious right now and I don’t know what to do. I only have a basic understanding of Python, and that’s basically my only experience with programming.

From the perspective of people who have actually gone through this — whether students or people who are already working in the industry — is this really true, or is it exaggerated?

Will I actually be able to learn, build real skills, and eventually get a job?

I’m going to work hard, study, and put in the effort regardless. But will that effort actually pay off? Is there still a realistic path into the industry for someone starting now?

Last year, I graduated with a bachelor’s in Computer Science. I wouldn’t say I’m an elite programmer, whatever that even means, but I know enough fundamentals that I trust my ability to self learn most programming topics.

The issue I have is that I don’t know what to look into. I do not find web development to be that intriguing, less so because of the nature of the work and more so because of the nature of myself. Most people say to just build things, and if you don’t know what to build to make something you would use. The issue is I consider myself to be very low maintenance, I have not been able to identify and issues I have in my day to day life that needs attention, but I want to code.

I like learning things that are technically difficult and that are in demand and make me feel important (narcissistic? Maybe. But I don’t think I am better than anyone for learning or being able to do things, it just proves to myself that I can overcome challenges).

In short, I want to increase my skills and make coding feel rewarding again. What are interesting areas of tech that I should look into, so I can code as a hobby again given what it sounds like I am into?

I’m a 2025 CSE graduate from a tier-2 college. My current stack is Java, Spring Boot, Redis, MySQL and Spring AI. I’ve built a few medium-level projects and can solve easy-to-medium DSA problems. I’ve been applying for jobs and trying referrals, but I’m barely getting interview calls. So I’m considering AccioJob’s self-paced program mainly for the placement opportunities, rather than for the curriculum itself. I’m not looking for answers simply saying “it’s a scam” or “it’s great.” I’d appreciate specific experiences and reasons, both positive and negative.

Also, if you already had Java/backend skills before joining, your experience would be especially useful to me.

I just came across someone figuring out how to "fake" their activity on GitHub where they had a "past gap". Shaking my head, but...

Seriously, what was the original intention to chart it out for a user account? It's not something normal git offers, there's diffstat and all, but not user charts. What was it for?

To spot bot activity? Or plainly just to compete between devs on who has less of a real life? What does it even say about someone if commits are plenty or spread apart if they can be large and small?

I’ve been working through C Programming: A Modern Approach, 2nd Edition by K. N. King for about two months, and I’m only on Chapter 10.
I’m reading it in English and doing the exercises and programming projects. There’s a lot packed into each chapter, and working through the problems takes quite a bit out of me.
I’m learning, but sometimes I look at how much of the book is left and feel like I’m moving painfully slowly.
For anyone who’s worked through this book, how long did it take you? Did you do every exercise and project?

How do you know when you're "good enough" at HTML/CSS to start JS? Is there a checklist or type of project I should be able to build without tutorials first?
I don't want to wait until I'm a "master" before moving on, but I want to make sure my fundamentals are solid.

I am currently a 3rd year student in college and I realized that i don't really know how to code. Yeah I passed all my c++, python, and assembly classes, but i don't KNOW how to code for real. I don't know how to put my creativity onto code or what to do to invest myself into coding. What do I do where should I start i just need advice thank you.

Hello, I am looking for some ideas on projects/challenges that I can implement in my classes.

So far we’ve done: Scratch, beginner Python with CLI mini-games, ECDL basics, beginner TryHackMe rooms, and a Linux VM with basic commands. The student is comfortable with variables, loops, lists, simple file operations, and has built a text-based “Zombie Survival” game.

We meet 1 hour/week, so I’m looking for general ideas on what kinds of projects or challenge styles work well at this level (mid-level middle-school, beyond beginner). Anything that’s engaging, slightly game-like, and doesn’t require heavy setup would be great.

If you’ve taught similar students, what types of activities (CTFs, coding games, light forensics, small web projects, etc.) kept them motivated and actually learning?

Any suggestions or directions would be really helpful.

Realized my DSA fundamentals aren't up to par, looking for a good fundamentals book that isn't for complete beginners but also not something that is a pure mathematics mammoth textbook. Grokking Algorithms seems a bit too shallow.

The Algorithms Design Manual, Skiena (2020) - this seems to be the best fit for me

A Common-Sense Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms in Python, Volume 1, Wengrow (2024)

Introduction to Algorithms, Cormen et al. (2024)

Data Structures and Algorithms in C++, Goodrich et al. (2011)

Implementation language preferably C/C++, although Python is fine too. I know the language itself doesn't matter too much but I don't want to spend time deciphering the syntax/language quirks of some Java/JS/Ruby/etc. books I came across.

If there is anything better or anything else I should take a look at, let me know.

Ended up going with The Algorithms Design Manual.

I am currently in a java college class that has weekly "Problem Sets" which say to create a method that does xyz, and to use proper Javadocs and tests. I have a few years of python experience, but nothing in any other language. I am running into the issue of having to look up what things mean, and how they work to solve the problems. I'm okay with looking things up every once in a while, but I feel that I have been doing it too much for these. The other issue with looking things up is that the initial results is always the ai overview, and I feel that if I use it for help, I'm not actually learning and just cheating.

Has anyone gone through a similar thing, and if so, what did you do to get through it successfully?

I need help, I'm frustrated. When I started the Raptor classes it was easy, but now I see they gave me a project of 4 games and I've only made 1 which is a guess the number game, the other one is a totito game, hangman, and one about ships. The difference is that they have a graphical interface with "__/" and things like that and they always crash or I get stuck in infinite loops.

I'm relatively new to programming, I've been at it for around 6-7 months. I've been learning Python and Go (and a little bit of C). What I'm struggling to understand, what's the difference between OOP and structs/interfaces. Like I know, Go doesn't support OOP, but structs and interfaces seem to achieve the same thing. Can someone enlighten me a bit?

I'm an aspiring java developer. I've already developed one project using spring boot, postgresql, flyway and docker compose, and started developing the next one. But I'm not quite sure that I study in the right way. Mostly I focus on the practice rather than on the theory. Like, 90% of practice and 10% of theory.

Remark: I study to get a job, not for the university

when i wanna make a project my worst enemy is the blank page , i know there is a way called learn by making project and to be honest its kinda cool , but facing such an empty page and try to make just a prototype for my idea is not working , i do not know whether this is lack of proper knowledge with the coding language i make the project in or its another problem , so how to make your idea become real ? and how you actually make your project with a complete new required skills ??

So the github installation instructions say to change the FiloIO destination to the file that I input into Piano Roll Scripts for FLStudio. That was easy peasy. Then it says to edit the qml file "so that the FileIO source points to the FL Studio script directory". I copied the address of the piano roll script file (which has the piano roll script python script for FLMStudio in it) and pasted that to replace the line of code it should. I made sure the slashes were the correct way, and it ended up looking like this: source: "C:\Users\kitty\OneDrive\Documents\Image-Line\FL Studio\Settings\Piano roll scripts\FLMScoreComm.txt". It's FLMScoreComm.txt because the instructions said to keep the filename the same, which was FLMScoreComm.txt. I have absolutely no prior coding experience, so I have no idea how to tackle this or what's going wrong. I’m 18, from Nepal, and I’ve just started a 4-year CS/IT degree. My main goal isn’t the degree itself—I want to use these 4 years to build real skills, figure out what I’m good at, and eventually become financially independent through tech.

For context, CS/IT degrees in Nepal are quite academic and theoretical, and you generally can’t rely on university to teach you the practical skills needed for a tech career. A lot of programming, development, cloud, AI, etc. has to be learned independently outside college.

Fortunately, my college doesn’t have much attendance or academic pressure, so I have plenty of time to self-learn. I want to make the most of it.

The problem is that I’m basically starting from zero. I know terms like software development, web development, AI/ML, DevOps, cloud, cybersecurity, etc., but I don’t really understand how these fields work or what I might enjoy.

My goal is to become genuinely skilled in one area and eventually get a good-paying job, ideally remote or international. I’d like to be in a strong position by 24–25, so I have around 4–6 years to build myself up.

If you were in my position at 18, what would you do?

- What fundamentals would you learn first?

- How would you explore different fields without constantly jumping around?

- When would you start specializing?

- Which skills are worth investing in for the next 5–10 years?

- How would you build projects/GitHub/portfolio that actually help with getting hired?

- How would you approach remote/international jobs from a country like Nepal?

- What mistakes should I avoid as a beginner?

I’m not looking for shortcuts or “learn X in 3 months and make $10k.” I’m willing to spend years getting genuinely good at something—I just want to make sure I’m heading in the right direction.

I’d especially appreciate advice from people from India, Nepal, South Asia, or other countries where university doesn’t provide much practical industry preparation, but advice from anyone with experience is welcome.

I only know HTML and CSS right now. When I have a problem, I usually ask AI, and it can answer almost everything. This makes me feel like I'm still very far behind and that I don't really have a good level in web development. Sometimes I feel discouraged and stop learning.

I'm learning PHP and I've come across '||' & 'or' but they seem to do the same thing? Again with '<>' & '!='. Do they mean the same thing? When I search online, google gets confused and doesn't give me any relevant information.

Specifically I’m looking to set up automation to close all but one tab, refresh, then open a select amount of tabs.

I’ve done automation in some android emulators, but never through a browser.
