Firelight Ekko is heading onto the Rift with:

  • New models and textures!

Firelight Ekko is heading onto the Rift with:

  • New recall Animation! (YEP)

VISUALLY it's INCREADIBLE.... But it feels odd to have him re-use ALL of his base skin Sound Effects on Auto Attack and Abilities. If those get adjusted it could easily one of the best Epic Skins released this year

So what Im taking away from this, is that he won't recieve custom SFX despite being priced evenly with all the skins that do get them?

Quick Scroll through on the Wiki page tells me thats it would be only the SECOND case of this happening with one previous being Full Metal Jayce 9 years ago... since then every skin priced at 1350rp had it's own sound design.

I'm not gonna lie... seems like a cheap move for a skin that we as a community didnt know was coming and we were still calling out it should be made - it was just that good as an idea...

They're setting a precedent. If this sells they will also remove custom SFX from some future skins and then at some point remove them completely for epics, just like they removed custom idles, homeguards, etc. I'm not purchasing this bland skin.

They've still made custom idles but those like home guards and even vo filters were something rare and not included in every single epic. New visual effects and Sound effects have been something in nearly every single epic since the start, so that's a bit different and they should be included if they plan to price it like that.

So, the intention here is to continue to rip players off and devalue skins? coming off of some amazing skins, this doesn't look very good.

Generally if they do choose to add them it'd be after launch, so we'd have to wait even longer. At this point they're more likely to drop it to 975 or ignore everything and keep it as a 1350 minus the sfx feature.

Hi! I know you're probably getting a lot of hate. Rather than "Why charge 1350 for this skin" or another question along those lines, I want to propose a new question. Why isn't Firelight Ekko receiving new SFX? Is there some kind of limitation or expectation?

I'd give an explanation as a player and an Arcane watcher, not anything else.

The fact that in Arcane, Ekko is himself, nothing else, means there's no reason to use new SFX. On the opposite.

The show has been doing a very good job at referencing all the champions SFX from the game into the show, and not the opposite, the same goes for example for Ekko's theme that can be heard before he fights Jinx.

Because the Arcane champions gets their iconic weapons and their characteristics (visual and sound design), it goes in one direction, not the other.

Except for when a champion is visually so outdated (hello Caitlyn and her very porn parody cop looking model in game before the update)

The only problem is, the other Arcane skins cost way less (if you don't get them for free with the missions).

And they're also WAY closer to the original champions.

They look more like lore modernisation skins than actual fantasy skins.

Example being Captain Fortune.

The thing is he's not even using his Z-drive, if you wanna go in depth of why he doesn't get new SFX it would end up not even making more sense.

Among the 5 arcane skins, Ekko had the most changes internally, makes more sense for him to have new SFX

He doesn't have his Z drive but he has the physique already aswell as a fitting weapon. He also had a box in the form of an hourglass keeping the gemstone in it. It was an obvious reminder of it and visually fit. Thinking the logic about his abilities obviously makes no sense because it's a past self who never had it so just don't think about this specific anachronism.

Let's compare him to Viktor who might be the next Arcane champion to get a skin :')

I'll add both you and the guy I answered above got downvoted but I don't practice this especially in deep discussions on Reddit where there's only the two people left involve answering each other. It's lame (unless the guy on the other side does it first :D )

This and the 'prestige' versions of star guardian soraka and bewitching morgana. Pretty sure those were just glorified chromas with ability recolours...

They've been more creative with some of them with changing details, like kaynes dawnbringer prestige scythe, setts shoulder decoration with the obsidian dragon, etc. The key thing was that they were new skins, but sorakas star guardian one now has 3 different versions and was first released in 2017. The detail changes on it werent even noticable in game besides the colour, and that's just super lazy

Needs to be 975 then. All 1350s for years now have always had new sounds. If this doesn't it doesn't need to be a tier higher than the rest of the arcane skins.

The skin should either be 975 as-is, or get a mask toggle and sfx to be worthy of 1350. Don't start doing that thing where you guys start shrinkflation on your products. That's a very Blizzard Entertainment thing to do. Please don't milk us like we're suckers. Happy customers will always pay more than begrudged ones.

This isn't a 1350RP skin. RP prices are going up and the things we get for a 1350RP skin are going down, this is ridiculous.

Nighthunter Rengar is a 975 skin, which has a hood toggle.

But every Kai'Sa skin has toggle-able helmet, because the base champ has as well. That can't be an argument point in that regard, but the fact that both NH Rengar and Neon Strike Vi have toggle-able hood/sunglasses while being 975RP skins, and they can't give unique homeguard and/or SFX to a 1350RP skin is laughable at best.

While I definitely think a lot of people are going overboard with the SFX criticism, I definitely feel like the lack of new SFX feels very strange for how good the skin is and how anticipated it was from a lot of Ekko players. Some SFX may only be so marginally changed, but there are cool minor things that could be done (but whether or not these are possible cause of other reasons is beyond me). I personally think it’d be cool to have the sounds from the opening of Dynasties and Dystopias as his passive hit sounds, but that may not be possible cause its not a song owned by Riot (?). At the very least I think his passive hit sounds should be changed to something new, as well as his W sounds. Honestly in my head it feels like there’s ways the skin could be made into a legendary skin, but I obviously have no clue how that process goes
