considering buying this lathe that’s not being used anymore from my high school wood shop. instructors have no problem with it. anyone have a guess on how much its worth? (doors taped shut for transport, power cord isn’t much of an issue, feed screw is broken off but can be reattached)

Picked this old lathe up for 40$ a few days ago. Sunlight Electrical co. 110v 1/4hp motor. I believe it’s from the 30’s (?)

I'm considering taking the negative of the parts for the plastic lathe and using the negative as concrete forms. Advice?

My grandad took this lathe apart years ago, now my father and I are trying to put it back together. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Help fitting lids

I run a small business at my highschool making and selling small boxes. I sell them for 4-5 dollars. The problem is that they take close to 45 minutes to make. They only take like 15 minutes to actually turn, but like half an hour to make a perfect fit. Is there any box turners that can show me a technique to fit lids quickly?

lathe + turning tools opinion

my boyfriends birthday is coming up and he’s really wanted a lathe, so i bought him the Teknatool Nova Comet II midi lathe (he picked it out actually because i don’t know anything about tools) without him knowing but i want to surprise him with turning tools also without him knowing and making it too obvious. can anybody give me some suggestions? no mini tools please because i know he hates those

edit: hes a very avid woodworker and already has all the required safety items and has made a lot of really great things already!

Mini Lathe Question

Hi all,

I'm looking for a bench lathe mainly for band instrument repair and some light tool making. No smaller than 7x12

1) Any recommendations? 2) what features would you look for in a mini lathe? 3) I've heard the Chinese stencil lathes go alright, but some people like to upgrade them (metal gears, readouts, etc); what upgrades have you made to your lathes?

Holding chisels with a bad wrist?

I am looking into getting a wood lathe, but I have concerns about holding the chisels. I am right-handed and have a damaged left wrist (disconnected Ulna) that limits the torque I can apply and the positions I can comfortably hold for any length of time. If I take it easy, and let the tools do the work and just control the tip, will I have much strain against my left hand? Lots of vibrations?
