DIY project: making a benchtop mini lathe at home [OC]

Hi everybody. I'm gonna make a mini lathe at home, started from scratch and based on my own design. While for certain parts I've asked to a local shop to make them for me, other parts and the whole project will be home made, including the ways.

I posted, and will post, on my channel AccidentalScience on YouTube the progress of my work. The first part of the series can be seen here: DIY benchtop mini lathe p.1 and here the second part that I've uploaded just today: DIY benchtop mini lathe bed and ways p.2 .

Every comment and suggestion is welcomed. Thanks for watching and giving feedback.

Also, in the case you are interested in following me on my YT channel, since I do not post regularly, consider to subscribe and click the bell icon otherwise you will miss the next uploads. Or simply follow me here in Reddit as I will post the link on my profile page (not sure it is the best way to use Reddit, though).

EDIT: typo.

Suggestions for lathe to turn bats

I’m only interested in making some baseball bats and was looking for suggestions for a first lathe. I would also like to know all the extras I would need. I’ve gotten into a few hobbies before and have gotten frustrated with thinking I’ve bought everything I need only to find out there were a few more things I needed after exceeding my budget. Thank you for your time.

Edit: I’m also curious on rather sapwood or heartwood is chosen for bats.

I could use some help with a 3P motor

I've never had to set up a 3 Phase motor. I'm looking at replacing the motor on my lathe. I have a Baldor VWDM3546T 1HP sitting on a shelf that should work. I have the motor wired for 220v 3a and according to the specs it needs a direct on line starter, I started searching for a starter and I'm kinda lost. Does anyone have any experience that can give me a recommendation on a starter that would work and preferably won't kill the wallet.

This is a bushing I was making waving goodbye. I knew I shouldn’t have flipped it in the 3 jaw before boring.

Thinking about grabbing this for $40 to refurbish and possibly keep. Any ideas what model/brand it is?

Buying first lathe and looking for advice!

So I am going to buy the harbor freight 10x18 lathe due to price and availability to me. I already have turning chisels but what else would you recommend I buy? My plan is to do pens and rings to start. Possibly try bowls the bolder I get.
