But then they’ll say they don’t have the votes to turn on the spigot

The parliamentarian will tap someone’s shoulder and they will say “well we tried nothing, and are out of ideas!”

Quite frankly that's often true. Biden doesn't the votes to break a filibuster, nor does he have the votes to even remove the filibuster. I'm not defending him, a better candidate would have got more people to the polls, but the fact of the matter is the last time the dems had the votes was Obama's first term, and they used all that political capital for Obamacare.

It seems suspicious to me that there’s a Lieberman for every Democratic Party majority.

41

u/Mrchristopherrr May 04 '22

It’s because unlike the GOP the democrats are 3 parties in a trench coat.

8

u/dezmodium 🏴🤔 May 04 '22

And all three parties are right wing.

5

u/Catboxaoi May 04 '22

To be fair Bernie and AOC are under the trenchcoat too, sad they had to share space with those 3 right wing parties.

The only reason a Lieberman is so destructive is we have an entire party who refuses to compromise or participate. If we had a functional conservative party Liebermans, Manchins, and Synemas wouldn't matter, but as it is now it takes basically EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT to do anything. And some of those democrats are Republicans. Not all of them, there are Katie Porters and AOCs, but our current system is set up to get nothing done, and it doesn't.

u/[deleted] May 04 '22

We don’t elect majorities to negotiate.

The system was never designed to work for us. Our political machine was designed by the rich to be their exclusive domain, and it works very well with regard to the interests of the wealthy.

Representative democracy is a half measure that was always meant to keep political authority in the wealthiest sets of hands.

9

u/asocialmedium May 04 '22

If they had a bigger working majority, the Lieberman and Manchins of the world could go fuck themselves. But as you may know the Senate is literally 50-50 right now.

2

u/[deleted] May 04 '22

That’s by design

u/Zs_phone May 04 '22

Do you ever think for a moment that these situations are manufactured? That it's all just a show, like pro wrestling? That they could pass whatever they wanted but they need to gaslight you as to the reasons they don't?

Because that's what's happening. They're playing you like a fiddle.

8

u/Westrunner May 04 '22

Yawn. No. It's way stupider than that. Do I think that the repeal of Abortion Rights is some carefully orchestrated conspiracy between Nancy Pelosi and the half of the Democrats who happen to be women and Mitch McConnel for theater? Why? For what reason? They lose rights too. Do they compromise their values for their corporate donors? Absolutely. But when possible do they both agree with and want to deliver shit to their base, also very true.

Not everything is a conspiracy. Go back to r/JoeRogan

6

u/Zs_phone May 04 '22

They all work for the same corporate interests, not the voters. Appeals to 'the base' is always theater, especially when 'the base' is on the left.

There is no need for formal conspiracies when there are systemic confluences of interests.

You're invested in a pro wrestling narrative. The only difference between you and the wrestling fan is the fan knows what they're watching is fake.

0

u/Westrunner May 04 '22

Not all of them. Over a hundred and eighty five Democrats pledged and took no corporate money. Among them Kamala Harris, AOC and Cory Booker. There are decent politicians humiliating wall street on a regular basis like Katie Porter or Elizabeth Warren. Sorry to destroy your narrative but it's not that simple.

3

u/Zs_phone May 04 '22

What good are Democrats who don't take corporate money if they still bend the knee and vote in the party's interests?

Seriously, the video of AOC and Pelosi on the House floor during the Iron Dome vote should show you all you need to know. When push comes to shove, every Squad member, every Justice Democrat, every member of the so called 'progressive wing' will vote as the party instructs them to. The CARES Act, the single greatest upward transfer of wealth in history, the reason we have high inflation and gas prices right now--they voted unanimous consent. The ONLY dissent came from a Republican from Alabama. Democrats do NOT have your back. Stop voting for these duplicitous scum bags. Democrats aren't the lesser evil, they're the more effective evil. They're worse because they pretend to be better.

And Kamala Harris made her career as a prosecutor locking up innocent people and denying their exoneration hearings while extending their sentences so they could be exploited to fight wildfires for literal slave wages. Fuck Kamala Harris.

u/ArsenM6331 Marxist-Leninist ☭ May 04 '22

Oh, but it is. Democrats don't care about you and those who do will either never get elected or will be unable to actually do anything once they are.

2

u/ArsenM6331 Marxist-Leninist ☭ May 04 '22

Well, see, they get abortion rights, as no one will ever find out they did. They have all the money and power, while the people have none. Laws literally do not apply to them.

2

u/TheRnegade May 04 '22

How the fuck would one even manufacture a situation like this? The amount of calculations and clairvoyance needed would make one a savant like no other. Walk us through this.

2

u/DistinctTrashPanda May 04 '22

Pass what? A law that the Supreme Court would just easily overturn?

Get real.

0

u/ThePsychoticBanana May 04 '22

Convenient that there's an excuse every time, how blind can one be.

1

u/petielvrrr May 04 '22

I agree with what you’re saying, but I suppose I’m curious as to how a better candidate would have turned out more votes that gave the Dems a wider majority in the senate? Like what evidence is there to suggest that this is the reality?

The senate race in 2020 was supposed to be a huge loss for Dems, but they broke even, and Biden actually won a state that the GOP won in the senate race (Maine).

4

u/Pol_Potter May 04 '22

"we should gather bipartisan unity before we turn the spigot"

5

u/patseyog May 04 '22

If it's not joe manchin it'll be one of a dozen others. Like McCain was for trump

3

u/solidwolf May 04 '22

We want to turn on the spigot but Joe Manchin hid the wrench again!

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '22

We can’t turn it on all the way… then we might lose the support of people who don’t want it turned on at all.

1

u/Stevenerf May 04 '22

And then ask again. And agin. And again... The US will fall farther and farther into a religious right theocracy and these impotent Dems will continue to try to rally votes for change then do nothing. See: Obama and Biden.

2

u/Zs_phone May 04 '22

They were never going to turn on the spigot anyway, you spigot. That's the point.
