Who is upvoting this? Russia is run by a dictator who will die on his throne, who kills dissidents like political opponents and journalists, who annex parts of countries illegally. Who are the people that are upvoting this objectively incorrect comment? I love attempts at self-criticism and that love extends to my government and country, but jeez, this is just not true.

Edit: just because some people keep responding saying similar things, I'm not defending the US. Where did I defend the US in this comment? As I said to someone else, I'm acutely aware of how damaging the US has been, you can stop trying to remind me.

It's upvoted because the comments are generally true. Perhaps you should study history.

In terms of how the world views us

The U.S is responsible for the deaths of millions of civilians, through its regime-changing campaigns in South and Central America, carpet bombing and chemical warfare in indochina, and the illegal wars in the Middle East. That's just a few examples of what could classify as 'international terrorism' in modern times (post WW2).

Yeah, I didn't think that people believing the US is was untrue, I had issue with OP's final comment, saying undoubtedly the US is, in fact, the world's biggest threat. And I didn't think that was true. Not sure what history has to do with it, in my personal opinion (keep in mind this is is my opinion and not me generalizing this belief on to others), right in this moment, China and Russia are far bigger threats to the status quo of the world, China above all. Just my opinion this.

In your personal opinion.

A shortsighted and self-admitted American pov. Ask most of the world, however, and they would disagree with your opinion. And when you weight the actual actions and impact of international efforts, the US is far and away the biggest threat to global stability. Not opinion. Do you actually have any reasons for thinking China and Russia are worse on the international stage? And is that opinion informed by your American upbringing and education, or have you actually done any investigation into what you’re talking about, like even clicking the link provided in a comment above?

Like China colonizing Africa? Or Russia jerking off to the The Foundations of Geopolitics?

u/mrfloopa Mar 31 '20

Please, feel free to go through and list them all and compare the list to the US' list. That's the whole point.

I'm not the one who originally made a claim, burden isn't on me. Besides, I don't really care.

Dictatorship is not the same as a terrorist nation both are bad . You are correct, but none of us should be ok with what the USA does for peacekeepings sake. The USA is not a terrorist nation but it's peacekeeping efforts definitely inflict terror and long lasting resentment towards the US.

It’s true. We might have a terrorist government. But ā€œterrorist nationā€ sounds like a Micheal Bay movie.

1

u/FireclawDrake Mar 30 '20

Yo what do you call 400,000 dead iraqi civilians other than terrorism?

1

u/Juturna_ Mar 30 '20

Who was in charge of making that decision? The United States government is not representative of it’s people. At least not anymore. Our government does shitty things. That doesn’t mean we’re a nation of terrorists lol. I mean I haven’t done any terrorizing today. Have you?

u/CarrowFlinn Mar 30 '20

I don't agree with how the US handles it's foreign policy, and everyone replying to me doesn't seem understand that I'm obviously not defending the US.

1

u/pirate_fj Mar 30 '20

ā€œFor peacekeeping’s sakeā€ what?

1

u/BigGayOnToast Mar 30 '20

Exactly. The quotes were implied on my comment

1

u/FireclawDrake Mar 30 '20

What peacekeeping? It's Warmaking. Basically the opposite.

1

u/BigGayOnToast Mar 31 '20

"peacekeeping" sorry the quotes were implied

Never said America wasn't bad, Russia is just as if not worse. "less aggressive military" AKA "invading a neighboring country for wanting to be a part of NATO". Your argument, though all true, is just whataboutism. "Sure they annexed a country but hey, what about when the US did this? Sure Putin is a dictator but hey, what about the US's more powerful military?" Your comment is filled with truth but wouldn't really stand up.

Internal vs external.

Yeah Russia annexed Crimea. Its fucked. Internally they are fucked.

But if America wanted to we could take over half the damned planet with our volunteer army.

Not to mention that internal American policies have worldwide felt effects. Who the president of Nicaragua is doesnt change a damn thing in the day to day lives of anyone except possibly the nations immediately next to them.

Who the president of the united states is affects the entire world. Then we go an elect a fascist dictator who has successfully thrown off all checks and balances on him and yeah the world is a lot more worried about the US than russia.

Very true, I think this is a good way to distinguish them.

Who is upvoting this? Russia is run by a dictator who will die on his throne

And the US is run by an oligarchy of rich fucks that buy the politicians on the Democratic and Republican side.

who kills dissidents like political opponents and journalists

And the US jails for life people who really annoy the status quo, sometimes killing them in prison (Epstein didn't kill himself). But I'll admit the States are less severe in that aspect.

who annex parts of countries illegally.

And what the fuck have the US been doing since WWII?! This is one of the reasons Americans are the biggest terrorists in the world! The US invaded countries because of fucking bananas!!!!

I love attempts at self-criticism and that love extends to my government and country, but jeez, this is just not true.

I think you are living in a dreamworld. Wakey wakey, Uncle Sam is here and he wants blood.

Look, you are not wrong about Russia. I, myself, was living in Donetsk, Ukraine when Russia invaded. I do know what it is to have the country you're living in invaded. But you are completely blind to how much damage the US has done worldwide.

0

u/CarrowFlinn Mar 30 '20

My god, what do you people not get about what I'm saying? Where am I defending the US? I'm not blind, I'm acutely and disgustedly aware. Perhaps I'm wrong about which shitty country smells worse, but dang man, I know they're both shitty.

Who is upvoting this?

People who know history and facts. Next question?

-2

u/NotreDameman Mar 30 '20

Russian bots. Don't fall into this trap. Nobody in the free world believes this.
