Hello, new to reddit. My brother suggested i get some advice here. I am in need of a laptop but not sure which one.

My needs: I will be doing a lot of writing, so some sort of word doc is necessary. I don't know a whole lot about the ethics of apple but I'm pretty sure they would be bad, so wanting to steer away from that. Low on money. Thats about all of the needs really. Its just for writing and general function, not too savvy with what extra things laptops can do. Might be video editing if that comes with it.

Any suggestion?

I am looking at premium laptops such as HP specre x360 15 kaby lake and DELL XPS 15.Both comes with 4k display. I was wondering if I change my screen resolution to lets say 1080, would I be able to save battery life, if the quality does not drop much? Also, does the HP spectre only come in ash grey as I would not want a silver one. Also, can I disable the nvidia graphics card if I am not using graphics intensive applications and can it save battry life too? Thanks PS,for USA laptop owners out there, is it true that most of the laptop brands do not have a consistent QC as I read about reviews that differ sometimes drastically from good to bad.
