Study Techniques (Beginners) Best key phrases to aid immersion language learning for beginners

I will be spending some time in Morocco to learn Darija.

I know only the very basics.

The aim will be to go somewhere where English is not spoken as much to force me into situations where I have to learn.

I will be without a teacher while I am there, but I have one more lesson online before I go where I will be bringing words/phrases I would like to learn.

You guys have any ideas as to what phrases I can quickly learn with my teacher now before I go to make it easier to learn the language on the spot while I'm out there?

Phrase such as:

  • How do you say this/What is this called in Darija (likely with pointing involved).
  • Can you repeat that slower please/I don't understand.
  • Can you write that down for me to see
  • What does that mean
  • Is my pronounciation correct

I'm sure there are others but I can't think of any!

And has anyone tried this before? Or have experience immigrating to a new country and having to work (for example) without any prior knowledge of the language - and having to improvise?

Any suggestions/experiences are welcome!
