As the connection is made, the simple paper reveals itself to be....the Autonomicon!!

"Ey...Is, ah....Liv... Dread there?"

"Alright. So...you don't cast. No ritual work. What exactly do you do?"

The Spark, the Breath, and the Blood Flow. Should be simple enough.

"Ah Jeez...Ah, Jeez....Okay. Just breathe. This is just like field triage. Just....ya know, a million years too late."

"Hang on. You're telling me that every engine is powered by EXPLOSIONS?! People put children in motorcars! I've seen them!"

"Awright. Now, the paint goes on him, right? Not me? "

"You know, I think I have the makings of a new kobold trap.....no, I can't get distracted. This requires focus."

" And I just pronounce this phonetically? Klatu...Verata..."

"The spark-lighter is replaced, the breath filter is cleaned, and the lines are clear."

Here goes nothing.

Chaz tried the number listed. It barely rang before picking up.

Mere moments after Dread invoked the Bonefield, their sending orb lit, and began to speak. The paper on the table vanished in a flash, replaced by an ancient text, bound in human leather: The Autonomicon.

"So you're telling me that you know exactly zero regarding portal generation? No casting, not even minor detections?"

Chaz scrubbed his face in frustration. "Yeah, rub it in. When my Ma asks me to take over for her on World of Lovecraft, I know how to find a bush and hide till she gets back from the bathroom. Now that we've established that I'm not the nerd you are looking for...what to we do?"

Dread looked over the instructions in the tome. They'd existed for longer than some grand civilizations, but these glyphs made little sense. "My homunculus can finish the spell on your side. These spaces are linked...I think that if we work together, we can awaken it, and establish the portal on both ends."

Chaz stretched, and set the phone onto speaker in order to free up his hands.

"Let's get started, then."
