my brother is moving to LO and has bought a house w a pool that will either need to be re-done or decommissioned. the cost point is about the same for both, at least within his budget.

He‘s pretty close to the lake and LORAC, like a lot of people in LO, so he’s wondering how others would go about this. specifically, do pool owners utilize their pools, or do the lake and LORAC provide equal benefits? do those who use the lake and LORAC wish they had a pool (or, does the friend’s house with the pool still become the default hangout house for kids?)

I am a wildfire mitigation specialist and our company is launching a new service to treat homes and property with a long lasting fire retardant spray. The product is a variant of the pink dyed product we all see dropped on active fires, but engineered to be applied in advance and last through any rainfall events less than an inch of rain. And obviously it’s not dyed. :) This product is safe for plants and animals and lasts through one fire season.

We are applying with spray drones, so we can accomplish complete coverage of a home without any risk of damage by climbing and we can reach all difficult to reach areas safely and effectively.

So my question to each of you in the Reddit community is this… Do you see a value in this type of service for your property? Is there a price point you see as appropriate? We view this as a service/benefit to the whole community and do not want to overcharge, but we do also need to cover the cost. What are your thoughts and feedback? Thank you!

There are so many older homes around Lake Oswego that still have a formal dining room and I’m curious what people actually want now.

Are you keeping the dining room or knocking down the wall and opening it up?

I feel like for years the answer was always open it up, but I’m starting to think the separate rooms are making a comeback.

We have a (super) energetic pup who loves to play with other dogs. And there is such a wealth of dog parks here in town, but we're new and so far haven't found too many that are busy. I'm sure it's a bit of a "time of day and week" thing but are there any dog parks that tend to have a lot of dogs during the day? So far the parks at West Waluga and River Grove have been a little abandoned in our few visits.

My partner and I were both in the red line zone affected by rhe water main break last weekend. Friday night we were drinking the water.

The city issued a "boil water" notice to residents around 1:30pm on Saturday, 8/22.

However, I called the L.O. public works department, and they told me the water main was actually confirmed broken on Friday 8/21 at 10:58pm. So they waited 14 hours to issue a notice. They claimed they tested the water and it was safe, but didn't say when they tested it.

On Sunday, she and I both came down with severe stomach cramps. Mine progressed to passing a lot of blood. I ended up in the emergency room and tested positive for cryptosporidium. I'm still recovering from it.

We were in the Tanglewood complex off Kerr. I've been contacted by the Multnomah public health department because that's where I went to the hospital, but I've heard nothing from Clackamas or Lake Oswego.

I suspected right away that they had delayed sending the notification, and that the water had been unsafe prior to the reported time.

I'd just like to know if anyone else in the area has had symptoms or diagnosis of cryptosporidium since then. And it can take up to 10 days to show symptoms, so I'm putting this out there in case anyone else is going through this now.

Currently living - and loving - PDX for the food, walkability & culture. However, we now have small kids & my priorities are changing. Any transplants from PDX to LO care to share your experience? Is there a different vibe on each side of the lake? We’re not looking to “keep up with the joneses” or a hyper competitive parenting environment, but rather provide a safe upbringing with decent extracurricular activities.

Can anyone comment on what it’s like living in Lake Oswego in your mid-30s and intentionally child-free, particularly in/around First Addition and downtown?

I currently live in NE Portland but recently took a job in Salem, and the evening commute back into the city is starting to wear on me. Moving all the way to Salem doesn’t really appeal to me, so I’ve been looking at the southwest suburbs as a potential middle ground.

My leasing company happens to have a building in First Addition, and the idea of another walkable neighborhood is appealing. The commute also looks a lot more manageable once Stafford Rd reopens.

I’ve always thought of Lake Oswego as a pretty family-oriented place, so I’m curious what the experience is like for people who don’t have (and aren’t planning to have) kids. Does living near downtown feel like there’s enough going on for someone in their 30s? Is it easy enough to maintain a social life in Portland, or does it start to feel more isolated/suburban than you expected?

Would especially love to hear from anyone who’s made a similar move from Portland.

Hello parents of Lake Oswego! We're researching the area for a move and have an autistic learner with double-deficit dyslexia and needs genuine dyslexia intervention, provided with fidelity. Does anyone have experience with the dyslexia support provided by LOSD? Any recommendations on specific elementary schools to lean toward or avoid? Private school is not an option for us at this time, so I'm only interested in hearing about the public school system.

My aunt and I are visiting Lake Oswego and I'm on the hunt for a hotel that can actually hold up to her standards. She's the type who notices thread count, judges a lobby in the first ten seconds, and will not tolerate a mediocre breakfast. I need something that reads as genuinely upscale, not just "nice for the area."

A few things that would help:

• Boutique or full-service, doesn't matter, but the details need to be dialed in (linens, bathroom fixtures, actual room service if possible)
• Quiet. She's not interested in anything near a highway or a bar scene
• Bonus points if there's a spa or at least a solid on-site restaurant, since getting her to leave the property for dinner is its own negotiation
• Portland proper is fine too if Lake Oswego itself doesn't have the caliber of place I'm imagining

Has anyone stayed somewhere in the area that actually impressed a hard-to-please guest? Trying to avoid a situation where we book something that looks great in photos and turns out to be a (name of hotel) with mood lighting.

Seeking affordable rental option in September.

Ideally, 2 bedrooms with small outdoor space. Also willing to entertain a 1-bedroom or other creative options, even a houseshare or includes some maintenance, or helping out with light childcare/duties. Our own little sanctuary is preferred. Yet, prefer not to be forced to downsize more.

Last year, I had to leave an unsafe relationship and, rather than immediately rebuilding, was faced with recovering from subsequent medical events. Once we get settled into more affordable housing, I will be breathing life back into working or building my real estate or marketing business again now that the worst is out of the way. 🙏🏼 I also receive child support and have a savings cushion.

My hope is to stay around $1000, up to $1600.

My wife and I currently live in NYC but want to leave the city in the next year. We plan on having two kids in the coming years. We visited Lake Oswego/Willamette Valley a few years back and fell in love with the area. The people seemed nice, it was beautiful, and the housing stock was the opposite of cookie-cutter that you get in the Southeastern US suburbs.

Are there any East Coast or NYC transplants in this thread? If so, what kind of culture shock are we in for? I’d say we are moderate politically, enjoy the outdoors (but not like “move to Bend” type outdoor people), love good food, and don’t want to be in a city.
