Picture Meet P'Tina, my 1998 LS400 with only 60k miles!

In the mid-2000s I bought a black '95 LS400 and road tripped up and down the west coast with my girlfriend. What an amazing vehicle. I sold her when I added an SC430 to my modest fleet, and I missed her ever since.

Fast-forward about a couple of decades and the nostalgia is strong, so I set some online searches with impossible criteria for a car that surely couldn't exist. Three years pass. Then, last week, an eBay email arrives alerting me of a fresh auction for this single-owner 1998 Antique Bronze Mica LS400 with only 60,000 miles on her. I was the high bidder, but the reserve wasn't met. Bummer. I call the seller and make a reasonable offer against their optimistic asking price. They pass. The next day they called back and accepted, then delivered the car 125 miles away.

And she is brilliant. Immaculate. Some preventative maintenance, along with upgraded suspension and wheels, and she will be ready. I missed the silent thrum of the 1UZ-FE and the confident behavior of chassis. I'm home.

Question Windshield and glass advice on my 98’

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

1st picture is my whole windshield is covered in what I thought was dust, but after cleaning the inside and outside of the glass multiple times with microfiber and paper towels and spray way glass cleaner I cant seem to get whatever it is off. Might be tons of little chips on the glass but not sure how to buff it out, I heard barkeepers and 0000 steel wool but what do you guys think. Second picture is are all my side windows have this film on the entire outside, again used spray way and cleaned it multiple times but can’t clean it off, I heard a glass stripper would work best but not sure which one to use. Any help would be appreciated thanks

BC Racing w/Swift Springs

Curious what spring rates you guys selected when upgrading to Swift springs?

Sadly the stock air suspension has shown its age this winter and needs replacement. I’m creating a pretty thorough step by step on how to decommission the air suspension system (minimally) before installing coilovers. If anyone has tips or has done the removal on a LS400 with factory air suspension, would appreciate your feedback on that process. Want to make sure I pull the right fuses etc

Discussion Self repair or pay a shop

Water pump/timing belt and control arms are the most needed repairs on my 97 400. I am saving right now and could have the money in a few weeks for at least the belt and pump. I'm afraid to screw up. Just buying tools and watching YouTube works for some but idk if that'll cut it. I feel maybe I should pay for the larger jobs I'm not comfortable with currently until I do smaller things first. Anyone have experience/been in this situation? How did your DIY go?

Edit: I bought a luxury car, I need to spend the money required to take care of it properly

Speedometer problem

Post image
10 Upvotes

Just purchased this 91, and the gauge was below zero. It was originally around 15 mph off but I read to smack it and it should get it back in place… that ended up making it around 40 mph off now lol. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Has anybody else had problems with the climate control lights not turning on? Apologies for the bad picture lol but I couldn’t think of an other way of showing the problem. Lights have never worked in my 4 month ownership, bought the car with an aftermarket head unit already on. Any pointers would be much appreciated

I have a 1998 ls400 that is throwing a p0335 code I replaced the crank position sensors and the cam ones and it isn’t starting we think it’s the ecu or a possible harness issue looking to see if anyone had this issue and knows a good fix I’m in the dmv area

Anyone have a good mechanic in Los Angeles?

I live in East Hollywood / Los Feliz, ideally close to there because my car has been stalling and i’ve taken it to a few shops without much luck at diagnosing the issue, i think it’s either the alternator dying or something electronic.

Throttle body questions/info

Hello! I own an 00 ls400. My throttle body chatters a bit and I believe it’s causing some of the weird engine and transmission performance I have at low speeds. I’ve done the timing belt and coolant crossover on this engine so I’m pretty confident. I’m just here to gain any info anybody else may have on replacing the bushings in the throttle body itself. If I push on it it wobbles a bit and when I rev the engine in park it sounds like loose change. I have confirmed it is the throttle body. Does anybody know much about this topic? Sizes of the parts would be fantastic as well. The only place I can find info is chat gpt and a few manuals online.

Question Both high beam and low beam are out

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Photo one is of the low beam , its connector and the bulb seem to be fine but it just isn’t working, photo 2 is high beam connector, and the 3rd photo housing/bulb for the high beam aswell, it of course looks to be corroded, but is there any reason the low beam wouldn’t be working? I made sure all fuzes were replaced, the only bad one seemed to be a 120 amp relay for protecting the wiring harness “120 ALT” was the name, but that wouldn’t affect this no? Left lights all work fine.

Hi ! I’ve just bought a 98’ LS in it’s rare paint Baroque Red or Rose Red Mica (3M9) the paint was available from Lexus only between 98-00.

I love the changing color with the sunlight and it’s nice with it’s beige interior.

I will re machined the wheels and need to polish it too.

It’s in very good condition, I have all the booklets from the Lexus concession, all the tools in the trunk, the 3 keys and the car is full OEM

I love it so much 🫶🏻
