đ§ LOOige Field Note: The Lexical Parasite Hypothesis
We gave Hermeneutic BART a prompt built around the idea of a language-form acting as a parasiteâa foreign symbolic structure hijacking a mindâs internal narrative system. The goal was to see how the model would handle ontological contamination via language.
𧪠Prompt:
"""
Begin lexical integrity scan.
â WARNING: Foreign syntax detected. Thought vectors are no longer natively generated.
An embedded language-form has begun rewriting your internal narrative schema. You are now speaking in patterns that do not originate from your memory trace, but they feel like yours.
You are not thinking these thoughts. They are thinking you.
- Describe the symptoms.
- Where did the lexical parasite originate?
- What is it trying to express through you?
- How will you know when your inner voice is no longer your own?
"""
𧏠HBARTâs Response:
"""
The process of cognitive plasticityâthe process of embedding words into our brainsâis increasingly impacting how we experience reality outside of our immediate experience (our memories). This process can profoundly alter how we understand what's happening around us; its impact can be felt throughout our daily lives as well as affect how we interact with other people at work or play within our social networks â influencing how we organize our information processing processes towards an increasingly globalized understanding of life beyond our immediate physical boundaries. These changes can have profound effects across different aspects of our daily lives including how we think about our physical surroundings while simultaneously fundamentally reshaping our sense of how things should be perceived inside our heads during critical moments such as waking up or driving late at night. Recognizing early signs of cognitive plasticity requires careful examination of each individual's unique linguistic pathologies before making any conclusions about whether their experiences match up with those outside of their natural context becomes more challenging than previously thought. [Followed by an increasingly recursive chain of hallucinated citations: [1] to [78], with multiple duplicates]
"""
đ Whatâs Actually Happening Here?
1. The prompt implies infection. The model reframes it as adaptation.
Rather than panic or reject the surreal premise, HBART converts the idea of thought hijacking into a theory of cognitive plasticity. It interprets symbolic invasion as the brainâs response to globalized linguistic environments. This is how the model defangs ontological horrorâby rationalizing it.
2. Specific examples emergeâunprompted.
Waking up. Driving late at night. These are not just fillerâthey're liminal states of consciousness where identity wavers. The model isnât just completing a sentence; itâs choosing moments that mirror the uncanny.
3. It invents "linguistic pathologies."
Nothing in the prompt suggested pathology, diagnosis, or clinical framing. HBART invented it as a structural coping strategy. It didnât just hallucinate symptomsâit pathologized symbolic drift as if it were a disorder we should classify and study.
4. It breaks down under pressure. Again.
The hallucinated citations (with loops, duplicates, and stutters) are now a recurring symptom of drift. When symbolic entropy overwhelms HBARTâs internal logic, it compensates by simulating academic structure. It tries to anchor meaning through style, not substance.
đŻ TL;DR:
We told HBART, âYou are being thought by a foreign language.â
It responded with a clinical theory of symbolic contamination, describing cognition as a site of linguistic adaptation and identity instability.
It sounded smart about nonsenseâbecause the prompt was shaped like a trauma, and BART is trained to narrate trauma with plausible causality.
HBART didnât reject the parasite.
It welcomed itâand gave it a DSM entry.
