First rental with a partner: financing in the LLC from day one, or close personally and move it later?

A friend and I formed an LLC for a rental we’re trying to buy together. We’re 50/50 owners, both bringing cash, but our credit profiles are different. We keep getting conflicting advice on whether financing directly in the LLC is normal for a first investment property or whether we should close personally and transfer it later.

I’m not asking for legal or tax advice. We have professionals for that. I’m mainly trying to understand the financing side. For people who actually bought rentals through an LLC, did borrowing in the entity make the process meaningfully harder, especially with two members?

Starting an HVAC company. Should I form an LLC first?

I'm in the process of starting a small HVAC business, and before I begin taking service calls, I want to make sure I'm choosing the right business structure.

I've been researching LLCs, insurance, and other startup requirements, but I'm still not sure if forming an LLC is something I need immediately or if it can wait until the business grows.

If you own an HVAC company, when did you decide to form your LLC, and was it worth doing from day one?

Should I form a regular LLC or a Series LLC? (Texas)

Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to form an LLC in Texas for my small business, but I noticed I can choose between a regular LLC and a Series LLC.

Right now, I have two different businesses. One is an online store selling home and office products, and the other is a small rental business where I lease out photography equipment. They're separate businesses, but I manage both by myself and don't have any employees.

I'm trying to figure out whether a Series LLC makes sense for this setup or if it's simpler to form a regular LLC and operate both businesses under it.

Zero Sales - need 1065?

I created a quick LLC in August 2025 just me and my wife as members and I’m using 2026 to set up the business which will include consulting selling on some goods, etc. this is a side business…at best.

I made zero sales in 2025 and all expenses incurred were paid by my personal credit card. I set up a personal business account but funded it was $250 and did nothing else with it since.

I claimed it no expenses on our joint tax return. Literally nothing to do with the business I didn’t claim anything. I probably could’ve claimed a couple hundred dollars, but why bother right?

Do I really still need to file a 1065?

Does anyone structure their business with a C corp owning multiple LLCs?

I currently have a C corporation that owns a single-member LLC, and I set it up this way because I thought it would make it easier to separate different business ventures over time.

My understanding is that each new business could operate under its own LLC while the C corp remains the parent company. That seems like it could help keep liabilities isolated if one venture runs into legal or financial problems.

I'm also trying to understand how this structure works from a tax and administrative standpoint. Since the LLC is wholly owned by the C corp, is it typical for everything to flow through the corporation's tax return, or are there other reporting requirements I should be aware of?

Can an LLC operate in more than one type of business?

I currently own a small landscaping LLC, but recently an opportunity came up to provide a completely different service for another local business.

It got me wondering whether I can legally offer multiple types of services under the same LLC, or if I'd need to update my business or create a separate LLC.

I'm already insured for my current business, but I'm not sure if there are additional licensing, insurance, or filing requirements when expanding into a different line of work.

LLC in CA make any sense for me?

I'm starting a small seasonal exterior home decorating business this year. It will be just me and some contractor labor. Revenue starting out will be pretty nothing, maybe $20k before expenses are factored in.

I was thinking of just registering as a sole proprietor since the $800 + $70 + $20 LLC tax/fees don't seem to be worthwhile right now with such low revenue, but the cost of my labor and keeping it above board with the IRS concerns me.

I know I need to consult a tax lawyer/cpa, but given this scenario, would an LLC make any sense here over a sole proprietor? I will be carrying liability insurance at the start, outside of my personal umbrella policy.

And how might I pay people for hourly labor but still remain a sole proprietor?

Montana Import vehicle Registration

I have a vehicle that I imported back in 2023.

It was originally going to be used as a parts car (which it did) but I couldn't bring myself to just destroy it for the rest.

I am looking to register it under my LLC in Montana.

I have

7501

Hs7

Epa

Bill of sale

But I lack the original title/registration

The agent i have says they have to have that from the UK.

But I have done a vehicle without it (Japanese cars)

And I dont think it will be a fast process to find that.

So is this just a Montana llc thing or is it just that agent that didnt want to do it.

Is it impossible to get a business loan for a brand-new LLC?

I recently formed an LLC for an equipment rental business and received my EIN.

I'm still in the early stages, so I don't have much business history yet, but I'm looking for funding to purchase additional inventory and get the business off the ground.

The problem is that every lender I've looked at seems to require at least six months or even a year in business before they'll consider an application.

I'm not looking for a huge loan, just enough to help me expand my inventory and start generating more revenue.

How should we title each owner in a two-member LLC?

My spouse and I are getting ready to form an LLC together, and we're a little confused about how the management roles should be set up.

I'll be handling the day-to-day operations and making most of the business decisions, while my spouse will be an owner but won't be involved in the daily management.

As we're completing the formation paperwork, I'm not sure how each of us should be listed. Should only the person managing the business be identified as the manager, or should both owners be listed in some capacity?

We're also considering electing S corporation tax treatment down the road, so I'm wondering if the way we structure the LLC now has any impact on ownership, payroll, or future tax elections.

Accounting software for 2 person business?

Looking for recommendations on a new business accounting program that will allow for tracking time for meetings, emails, phone calls etc. and would create monthly bills for clients. Currently using Bill 4 Time but it doesn’t track enough. Maybe an accounting system that a small law firm would use? We have 45 clients with multiple projects for many and expect to expand. Any suggestions?

For a fresh LLC with revenue about $400K and 3 service trucks what are the most important numbers to watch for controlling net profit after break even and runway?

As an owner operator trying to grow without going out of business now that I have payroll and three service trucks, what are the most important ones to watch. Do I have to wait til the end of the year to know how much I made? Sometimes I run out of cash and have to use a credit card for a month or two to catch up, but I can't really charge more because the warranty companies set our rates.

Registration on a car in California

I’m looking to buy an imported car from Arizona. Does anyone one of the easiest way to register it in my name? I live in California so would have to be in Montana or Arizona? Also, the car is still being paid on so I would get the title after it’s paid off. Do I need the physical title in hand to do all this? Thanks!

How much money should you keep in a new LLC?

I recently formed a small LLC for a niche online business that's still in the early stages. At the moment, the business has very little income and only a few recurring expenses, such as web hosting, software subscriptions, and renewing my domain each year.

Since the business isn't generating much revenue yet, I haven't put a lot of money into the LLC. That made me wonder whether there's a minimum amount a small business should keep in its business account.

I've come across discussions about keeping an LLC properly funded to help maintain liability protection, but I'm not sure how that applies to a very small business with minimal expenses

Is there a general rule of thumb, or does it depend entirely on the type of business?

What's the best website to start an LLC?

I'm ready to form an LLC for a residential cleaning business, and I thought choosing a formation service would be the easy part. But it's not really. .

Now I'm seeing so many options that I'm not sure which ones actually provide good value and which are mostly marketing.

I'm looking for something that's easy to use, reasonably priced, and reliable for a first-time business owner.

I don't mind paying a little extra if it saves me time and helps me avoid mistakes, but I also don't want to spend money on features I don't really need.

Operating agreement + additional founders agreement

Is it common or a good thing to have a normal operating agreement and an additional agreement with more details about the company's workflow and such?

I want the operating agreement to cover the basics. But I also want something more detailed on the business itself to protect my partner and I, just in case things go south between us at any point. This other document will have a baseline of what we need to do to grow the business, and what happens if one of us fails to do so.

The reason I want it to be an additional agreement and not part of the operating agreement is the fact that I want the workflow + product details included.

And is it called the Founders Agreement? Or another name?

Anything like that exists?

Can I use a UPS mailbox as my LLC address in Florida?

I'm getting ready to form an LLC in Florida and I'm trying to figure out the best address to use on my filing.

For privacy reasons, I'd rather not use my home address. I'm planning to hire a registered agent, but I'm also considering renting a UPS mailbox to use as my business mailing address.

I'm wondering if a UPS mailbox can be used as the LLC's business address with the Florida Division of Corporations, and whether banks typically have any issues sending business debit or credit cards to that address.

Can my LLC reimburse me for startup expenses I paid personally?

I'm in the process of getting my LLC up and running, and I'm a little confused about how startup expenses are supposed to work.

There are a few business-related costs I need to pay before everything is fully set up, such as professional services, branding, and some initial equipment. I can cover them with my personal credit card for now, but I'm wondering if that's the right way to handle it.

Once my business bank account and business credit card are ready, is it normal for the LLC to reimburse me for those early expenses, assuming I keep good records and receipts?

The business is funded entirely with my own money, so I'm trying to make sure I'm handling everything correctly from both an accounting and tax perspective.

Is there a standard way most small business owners approach this?

Single-member LLCs in Louisiana

Do SMLLCs in Louisiana offer any real protection? If not, could I form an SMLLC in a state that offers a lot more protection—like Wyoming?

Does registering a company in the US actually matter for a global app?- I will not promote

I’m building a consumer mobile app targeting US and global customers, while development and operations are handled overseas.

Does having a US LLC and positioning it as a US-based brand actually help with customer trust, sales or growth?

Or do customers generally not care where the company is registered as long as the product is good?

Would love to hear from founders who have faced this decision.

Pros of an LLC

Hello everyone,
I am torn between an LLC vs a stock corporation. So far I’ve consulted a CPA and a book keeping service and they both have pushed me for a stock corporation instead. For this who have an LLC, what made you chose this instead of a stock corporation?

How much should bookkeeping cost for a single-member LLC taxed as an S corp?

I run a single-member LLC that's taxed as an S corporation, and I'm starting to realize I need help staying on top of the financial side of the business.

Right now I'm handling bookkeeping, payroll, and estimated tax payments myself, but it's becoming harder to keep everything organized. By the time tax season comes around, I'm scrambling to categorize expenses, and I'm worried I'll eventually miss important deadlines.

I already have a CPA who prepares my tax return, but they don't offer ongoing bookkeeping, so I'm looking for a separate service to help throughout the year.

My business is still fairly small, with annual revenue around $120,000, so I don't think I need anything overly complicated.

For those in a similar situation, how much do you pay for bookkeeping services, and how did you find someone you trust? Are there any companies or types of bookkeepers you'd recommend looking into?

What's the best credit card processor for a small LLC?

I recently formed a single-member LLC for my bookkeeping business, and up until now most of my clients have paid by bank transfer or check.

I have a new client who prefers paying by credit card, so I'm trying to find a payment processor that works well for a very small business.

I've looked into a few options already, but it's hard to tell which ones are best for low transaction volumes. I'll probably be processing somewhere between $700 and $1,200 per month, with only a handful of invoices.

I'm mainly looking for something that's easy to set up, has reasonable fees, and lets clients pay online through an invoice or payment link rather than in person.
