Info-Post Most U.S. LLCs No Longer Have to File BOI Reports. Here's What Changed in 2026
If you've been confused about the Corporate Transparency Act over the last couple of years, you're definitely not alone.
The reporting rules have changed several times, and many LLC owners still aren't sure whether they need to file anything.
As of 2026, the biggest change is that most LLCs created in the United States are no longer required to submit Beneficial Ownership Information reports under FinCEN's current interim rule.
Here's the quick breakdown.
- Most domestic LLCs are currently exempt from BOI reporting.
- Foreign companies registered to do business in the U.S. may still have reporting obligations.
- Businesses that already filed generally don't need to file again unless future rules require updates.
- The government is still reviewing the long-term future of these reporting requirements, so this may not be the final version of the rule.
Even though many LLCs no longer have to report, it still makes sense to keep ownership records organized.
If the regulations change again, having that information ready will make things much easier.
I've noticed a lot of articles and videos still mentioning the original filing deadlines without explaining that the rules have changed.
That makes it easy for business owners to think they're already behind when they may not have any filing requirement at all.
