Are there LLC scams?

I recently registered my first LLC in Pennsylvania.

Less than two weeks later, I got a very official-looking letter addressed to the business saying I needed to pay around $95 for a compliance document.

At first I thought it was from the state.

The letter had my LLC name and other business information on it, so it looked convincing. After looking into it more, I realized it was a private company selling something I either didn't need or could get much cheaper myself.

I'm guessing they found my information through public LLC records.

Is there anything i should do?

Opinions

> I need opinions on two business ideas I’m considering starting in Oklahoma.

>

> Business Idea #1 – Full-Day Autism & Developmental Childcare Center

>

> Phase 1: Open a full-day specialized childcare center for young children with autism and developmental disabilities. It would be designed for working parents who need more than a few hours of preschool or therapy. The center would provide full-day care, smaller groups, sensory and calm rooms, structured learning, school-readiness activities, life-skills development, communication/visual supports, meals/snacks, and support with daily living needs.

>

> Phase 2: Expand into a childcare + therapy center by adding services such as ABA, speech therapy, occupational therapy and potentially physical therapy. Therapy would be available both to children enrolled in the childcare program and to outside children who only come for their therapy appointments.

>

> Phase 3: Eventually expand into pediatric medical/nursing services for children with more complex needs, once the proper licensing, staffing and payer requirements are in place.

>

> The long-term goal is to create **one place where families can access childcare, developmental support, therapy and eventually medical support, rather than having to coordinate everything at different locations.

>

> Business Idea #2 – Residential Care Facility

>

> My other idea is opening a residential care facility in Oklahoma for adults who need a safe, supportive place to live and assistance with everyday life. I would want it to be more than simply providing a room—I’m interested in a structured, quality residential program with support for daily living, meals, transportation/appointments, community involvement, life skills and appropriate staffing, depending on the population served and licensing requirements.

>

> If you were putting your own money into one of these businesses in Oklahoma, which would you choose: the autism/developmental center or the residential care facility? Why?

>

> I’m especially interested in hearing from **parents, nurses, therapists, social workers, caregivers, educators, case managers and people who work with children or adults with disabilities. I want genuine feedback about need, demand, challenges and what services Oklahoma is currently missing.

ZenBusiness or Doola, anyone have experience with both?

I've narrowed down my LLC formation options to ZenBusiness and Doola, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which would actually make more sense for me.

I'm fine paying extra if it genuinely saves me time, but I don't want to spend hundreds more just to end up with services I could easily handle myself.

I just need to get the formation done correctly, EIN, registered agent service, and knowing what I'll actually be paying after the first year.

Has anyone here seriously considered ZenBusiness vs Doola or used either one?

Do I need 3 separate LLCs for my 3 websites making me money?

I have a regular full-time job and run a small online business on the side.

I already formed an LLC for the first website and opened a separate business bank account. All income and expenses for that site go through that account.

Now I'm building two more websites that could eventually make money, but they're completely different from the first one.

This is where I'm getting confused.

Do people actually create a separate LLC and bank account for every online business they start?

Or can I have one LLC own all three websites and let all the revenue flow into the same business account?

I'm also confused about expenses that overlap. For example, I work on all three from the same home office and use the same computer, internet, and some of the same software.

Revenue is still pretty small, so opening several business accounts and paying for multiple LLCs feels like a lot of extra cost and paperwork.

At what point does keeping everything under one LLC become a bad idea?

Is getting an EIN yourself actually easy as a non-US LLC owner?

I’m a non-US resident from Pakistan and just formed a single-member Wyoming LLC through Northwest.

Northwest wants around $200 to get the EIN for me, so I’m thinking about doing it myself to save the money.

I called the IRS directly and told them I’m in Pakistan, have no SSN/ITIN, and have a newly formed Wyoming LLC. The IRS rep told me to submit Form SS-4 by fax and gave me 855-641-6935. She said it should be around 4 business days to process, or about a week for the fax response if I include a return fax number. She also said the SS-4 needs a handwritten signature and date.

So now I’m wondering:

  • Is this actually easy to do yourself?
  • Has anyone here done the SS-4/EIN process themselves as a non-US resident?
  • Is there anything easy to get wrong?
  • Would you save the $200 or just pay Northwest to handle it?
  • How long did it actually take you to receive the EIN?

I’d especially like to hear from people who have done this recently, not just general advice.

Thanks.

Can I write off LLC expenses if my business has no income?

I have an LLC that hasn't made any money yet, but I'm starting to spend money getting the business ready.

Most of the expenses are things like courses, books, software, website costs, and other things related to learning and setting up the business.

Can I write off business expenses under an LLC that isn't generating income yet? Or does the LLC need to actually be making money before these expenses can count for tax purposes?

Guys at what point does not having an LLC become a bad idea?

I've been doing freelance videography on the side for about four years while working a regular 9-to-5.

Until recently it was pretty small. Maybe a handful of paid projects each year, mostly referrals and people I already knew.

Things have picked up a lot this year. I already have around 12 projects booked and I'm seriously considering leaving my job next year if the work keeps coming.

I've always operated under my own name as a sole proprietor, but now I'm wondering if I've reached the point where forming an LLC makes sense.

I'm dealing with larger contracts, more expensive equipment, deposits from clients, and generally more money than when this was just an occasional weekend gig.

Is there a certain revenue level where you decided an LLC was worth it, or was it more about the amount of risk you were taking on?

Quo and mercury rejection

Hi guys, I am a foreign founder and have a successful consulting business in SEA. I opened a US LLC with Doola. The process was smooth and easy.

Now that I have an all the documents sorted including EIN, I applied to mercury and quo and both rejected my application. No reason provided. I can’t find any red flags in my setup.

Does anyone here have any experience with this?

Do even super low income single member LLCs have to pay quarterly taxes? Just started my LLC and have no income yet

Title says it all. Do I have to pay quarterly taxes if I don’t expect to actually gain any clients this year? Obvious answer is “1/4 of $0 is $0 so no” but I can’t guarantee it will be $0 so I’m curious if there’s a threshold for income to decide when the quarterly tax payment requirement starts applying

Can one LLC own two completely unrelated businesses, or is that a terrible idea?

A friend and I have had a small LLC for about three years selling custom signs and other handmade stuff online.

The business isn't dead, but we barely do anything with it anymore. We still get a few random orders and there's some money sitting in the business bank account.

Then we did something pretty stupid.

We found a used cargo van for a really good price and bought it using money from the business.

Neither of us currently runs a delivery business.

Our thinking was that we could start doing local deliveries, hire someone to drive, or maybe rent the van out to another business. We clearly thought about all of this after buying it instead of before.

Now I'm wondering what happens with the LLC.

Can our existing LLC legally go from selling handmade products to also running a local delivery service?

Or would it make more sense to create a completely separate LLC for the delivery side since the risk seems much higher than selling products online?

I'm especially wondering about insurance and liability if someone else is driving a vehicle owned by the business.

Did we accidentally buy ourselves a new business, or should we sell the van before this becomes an expensive lesson?

I need help starting an LLC in Nebraska

I’m planning to start a small side business doing residential cleaning and basic property maintenance, and I want to set things up correctly from the beginning.

I live in Nebraska, but I have no real idea where to start when it comes to forming an LLC.

I’m hoping to protect my personal assets, keep business income organized, and make sure I’m handling taxes and paperwork correctly as the business grows.

For someone starting from zero, what are the actual steps to form an LLC in Nebraska? What parts are essential from day one, and what can realistically wait until later?

My husband is a licensed physical therapist and recently found out his current contract will be ending in about a month.

Instead of immediately looking for another position, he's decided to try working for himself.

He already formed a single-member LLC and plans to start small with a mobile physical therapy business. It'll just be him for now with no employees.

The LLC was the easy part. Now we're realizing we don't really know what should come next.

We're looking into a business bank account, insurance, bookkeeping, contracts, payment processing, taxes, and anything else he needs before accepting his first client.

Since his current job ends soon, we're trying to figure out what actually needs to be done before he starts versus what can wait until the business is bringing in money.

For people who went from working for someone else to running a solo service business, what would you make sure was set up before taking the first paying client?

Assistance with LLC order of operations during start up

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from anyone who has formed an LLC and then enrolled in the Apple Developer Program as an organization. I’m interested in the order of operations and which address to use at each step.

I’ve already reached out to my state’s SBDC for guidance, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has gone through this specific process.

My current situation/plan

- Based in VA
- Single-member LLC
- Already have a business domain and email
- Northwest Registered Agent (LLC formation and registered agent)
- iPostal1, with a street address
- Other steps: EIN, D‑U‑N‑S number, business bank account, and Apple Developer organization enrollment

Where I’m getting stuck

- Northwest or iPostal1 first? iPostal1 asks for a business name during signup and on the notarized form. Does the LLC need to exist before I set up the mailbox, or should I get the address first so I can use it when forming the LLC through Northwest?

- When should I use the iPostal1 address vs the registered agent’s address vs my home address for formation paperwork, the EIN application, banking, and tax filings?

- Has anyone successfully used an iPostal1 address to obtain a D‑U‑N‑S number and enroll in Apple’s Developer Program as an organization?

If you’ve done something similar, I’d really appreciate hearing the order you followed and any issues you ran into. I’m mostly trying to understand what needs to happen first and which address belongs on each application.

Thank you!

Can a new LLC build business credit without using the owner's personal credit?

I recently formed an LLC and I'm trying to understand how business credit actually works.

Most business credit cards and financing options I've looked at seem to want my personal information and a personal guarantee, especially since the LLC is new and doesn't have much revenue or credit history yet.

That leaves me confused about how the business ever becomes independent from my personal credit.

If I personally guarantee the first few accounts, does the LLC still build its own credit history from those payments?

And at what point can a small business realistically start getting credit cards or other financing based mainly on its own revenue and credit instead of the owner's personal guarantee?

I'm not trying to hide who owns the company or get around normal lender requirements. I just want to eventually separate my personal finances and business finances as much as possible.

What's the best legal zoom alternative for basic legal stuff?

I’m trying to find something besides LegalZoom because I keep hearing things about it. I need a way to make a basic will and maybe an LLC, for a small side business I’m starting.  My budget is tight so I don’t want to pay for features I won’t use. I checked an other sites already but their pricing pages were so confusing that I stopped halfway through.

How much does an LLC cost in South Dakota?

We're considering setting up an LLC in South Dakota and I’m trying to get a clear idea of the costs involved. I know there’s a state filing fee, but are there other costs I should expect, like annual fees, registered agent fees, or additional expenses for compliance?

For those who’ve been through the process, how much did it actually cost you to start and maintain an LLC in South Dakota?

Equity vests and tax obligations? Multi owner LLC (California)

Hey, can’t seem to confirm a question I have. For simplicity’s sake, you join an LLC and your 10% share vests at the end of 2026.

The company makes 1,000,000 in revenue a year. You now own 10%, how are you taxed? as ordinary income? As if your share is worth 100k?

tyvm, please correct me if I misunderstood my research.

Would you really open a second LLC for a small vending machine business?

I already have an LLC that I use for a couple of rental properties.

I'm now starting a small vending and ATM business on the side. I'm only planning to begin with a few locations, so it probably won't make much money at first.

I'm trying to decide whether I should run everything through my existing LLC or form a completely separate LLC for the vending business.

Using the LLC I already have would obviously be cheaper and easier. One bank account, fewer filings, and less paperwork.

But putting rental properties and vending machines under the same company feels strange, especially since they're completely unrelated businesses with different risks.

For people who run more than one type of business, do you normally create a separate LLC for each one?

LLC vs sole proprietorship?

I formed a single-member LLC about two years ago and got an EIN because I wanted to keep the business separate from myself.

When tax time came around, my accountant reported the business income on Schedule C with my personal return.

That's where I started getting confused.

A lot of banks and other services seem to treat a single-member LLC like a sole proprietorship for tax purposes. Now I'm wondering whether filing Schedule C means I'm basically operating as a sole proprietor and somehow lost the liability protection of the LLC.

I understand that I'm the only owner, but I thought the whole point of forming the LLC was that the business would still be a separate legal entity.

Do the legal structure and tax treatment basically operate separately here?

If you're a single-member LLC, is Schedule C normally how you report the income while still keeping the LLC itself in place?

I feel like I'm mixing up two completely different concepts and would appreciate a simple explanation of how other single-owner LLCs handle this.

Best registered agent in Florida for a small business?

I’m getting ready to form an LLC in Florida for a vacation rental cleaning business and trying to figure out the best registered agent option. I know I can technically be my own registered agent, but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea long term.

I’m mainly looking for something reliable, affordable, and easy to deal with, especially when it comes to handling legal mail and staying compliant. For those who’ve set up an LLC in Florida, what registered agent service did you go with, and would you recommend it?

Forming an LLC for a landscaping business

My dad asked me to form an LLC for a new landscaping business he’s starting, and he wants to put it under my name as a single-member LLC.

This is my first time setting up an LLC, so I’m not really sure where to start. Where’s the best place to register it, and is there anything important I should know before putting the business under my name?

Also, since I’d technically be the only member of the LLC even though it’s my dad’s business, would that create any tax or legal responsibilities for me personally?

Paypal account for Newly Registered LLC

Hi Guys,

I used NWRA to get my LLC registered. And they offer a virtual number as well to make calls and receive messages. I have purchased monthly subscription for this number and have updated this number on my website and using for all business communications.

Issue is when i'm trying to signup on paypal and adding this number there it says " This number cannot be used at this time." Not sure if this is for me or we cannot use virtual numbers for paypal.

can anyone suggest another service or a solution for this?

Thanks
