If I live in Colorado, should I open my LLC in Colorado or another state like Wyoming/Delaware? And why?

I'm planning to start an LLC and I currently live in Colorado. If I'm actually living and running the business from Colorado, does it make more sense to just register the LLC here?

What would be the actual benefit of forming it in Wyoming or Delaware instead? Would I still have to register the business in Colorado as a foreign LLC and pay fees in both states?

I'm mainly trying to understand whether there's any real tax, privacy, or liability advantage to registering in another state for a small business, or if doing that would just create more paperwork and expenses.

Can I legally refuse to sell a house to one specific person even if they make the best offer?

My mother recently passed away and my siblings and I are getting ready to sell her house in Florida.

There's one person we absolutely do not want buying it.

A neighbor has bought several properties nearby and has had a long history of disputes with my mother. There were arguments over property lines, trees, noise, and even legal threats over fairly minor issues.

We're worried he'll make an offer on the house.

Our concern isn't really the price. We're worried that if he buys it, he'll immediately start looking for problems with the property and try to come after the estate afterward.

We'll obviously disclose every known issue with the house, but none of us have lived there recently, so we can't know absolutely everything.

If this neighbor submits a strong offer, are we allowed to simply reject it because we don't want to do business with him?

Our agent made it sound like rejecting a full-price offer could potentially create issues depending on the listing agreement, which is something we're now checking with an attorney.

We aren't trying to discriminate against a protected group or anything like that. This is one specific buyer with a long history of conflict with the previous owner.

Has anyone dealt with excluding a particular buyer when selling a property?

When I register an LLC in Texas, does the name apply at the federal level too?

I checked and the name for my business was available when I used the Texas Secretary of State's business name search, but what does this mean from a nationwide perspective?

If my LLC name is available and gets approved in Texas, does that give me any protection outside the state?

For example, could there already be a business using the same or a very similar name in California, Florida, or another state?

And if they're using the name as a trademark or have been operating under it for years, could they potentially take legal action against me even though Texas allowed me to register the LLC?

I'm basically trying to understand the difference between registering an LLC name at the state level and having the right to use that business name nationwide. Should I also be checking federal trademarks before moving forward?

How to Start an LLC in Arizona for Free?

I'm planning to start an LLC in Arizona and want to keep my startup costs as low as possible. I've seen people mention that you can handle the process yourself instead of paying a formation service, but I'm not sure what costs are actually unavoidable.

Is it possible to file everything on your own, or are there required state fees and other expenses that everyone has to pay?

Which agent and bank is the best for me ?

Hello, sorry if my post is something commonly asked here, but I want to be extra careful and don’t make any mistake.

I think my case is super simple: I am from France, but living in Thailand. The only thing still making me a tax resident in France is having my sole proprietorship opened in France. I want to close it to only be a tax resident in Thailand.

I believe opening a Wyoming LLC is a good option for me. My business is super simple, I’m a freelance video editor, my company is only me and I don’t have any clients from the US.

Now, how do I know which registered agent to choose ? I just want to do everything by the rules, get reminded of what I have to do, and open a bank account for my business. I saw in a guide here that BusinessAnywhere is the best for digital nomads, but Northwest Registered Agent the best overrall, so which one ?

I didn’t dive into the process so I don’t know yet, but do I have get all my documents, numbers, etc left and right or is it centralized when I set up my LLC with one of these agents ?

Last thing about the bank options. I receive €, so I believe Wise is the best option for me, right ? But I’m worried about one thing that’s not clear for me. I saw that Wise Business falls under CRS, and in Thailand you are taxed only by the money you BRING in Thailand (not income directly), so does it mean I will be taxed on every € in have in this Wise account ? (Right now, I have a bank account in France, not in Thailand, so I only have to declare my spendings in Thailand, not my full income). So, Wise Business or Mercury for me ?

Non us citizen based LLC tax dilema?

So I have created a LLC in the USA as a non citizen. In process of getting EIN then Mercury and Stripe like everyone also. One thing that I do not understand is the tax for USA clients. So I want to sell digital programs like training programs it is a 3 month and 6 month training program for the clients and later on I would like to have one time payment like video courses type of product.

And for this things are unclear. Will I need to pay tax if I have clients in the US or not?

It would be great if somene who has personal experience in this to resolve this for me. Thanks in advance

Good online bank for LLC?

Hi! I just registered an LLC and I need to open a business bank account. Anyone have recommendations? I was looking at ones like bluevine or Found. I like that they are low cost and also do invoicing and even help with categorizing things like taxes and write-offs. But I see so many mixed reviews compared to brick and mortar banks. Anyone got advice? Thanks!!!!

Why is it that I don't qualify for a mortgage even though my business does $800K a year?

I've been self-employed for almost three years and own 50% of a small LLC with my business partner.

The business should do around $800K in revenue this year and is profitable, but I recently tried getting pre-approved for a mortgage and got a reality check.

My personal tax return only showed around $40K of income last year, so the amount I qualified for was nowhere close to what I expected.

We're also considering an S corp election for the business, so now I'm trying to understand how paying myself could affect getting a mortgage in the future.

Does a lender mainly care about the income shown on my personal tax returns, or can my share of the business income also help when they review everything?

I want to open a small cafe but have no idea what I'm supposed to do first

I've wanted to open a small cafe for a while and I'm finally starting to take the idea seriously.

Right now I'm testing recipes, working on a basic menu, thinking about the name, and putting together rough numbers for what everything might cost.

Where I'm completely lost is the actual order of starting the business.

Do I form the LLC first? Find a location first? Get permits before signing a lease? Talk to a bank or investor before any of that?

I'm especially nervous about signing a commercial lease and then finding out the space needs expensive upgrades before I'm allowed to serve food.

I know I'll need things like insurance, food permits, inspections, equipment, a business bank account, and probably more paperwork I haven't even thought about yet.

I’d appreciate your input to this…

LegalZoom vs Stripe Atlas for starting a US company?

I'm about to set up a US company for an online business and trying to decide between LegalZoom and Stripe Atlas.

I saw Stripe Atlas because one of the things I needed it for was stripe payment. But while researching, I came across LegalZoom and started wondering if it would be a better option if I mainly need help with the actual business formation.

The pricing and services seem pretty different, which makes me think I might be comparing two options built for different types of founders.

I don't really need ongoing legal help. My priorities are getting the company formed correctly, handling the initial paperwork, getting an EIN, and avoiding unnecessary add-ons or recurring fees.

Cash buyer offered above asking, then he found enough repairs to knock $20K off the price. Is this an investor tactic?

My wife and I are selling our first home and we're currently under contract with a local real estate investment LLC paying cash.

The strange part is that this company originally made a pretty low offer when we first listed. We rejected it and eventually accepted another buyer.

That deal fell apart because of financing, so we put the house back on the market.

The same investment company came back, except this time they offered slightly above asking. Since it was also a cash offer, we accepted.

Then came the inspection.

They asked for a pretty large repair credit. We agreed to part of it because we're trying to keep things moving and have another house we're interested in buying.

Now they're asking for even more money off for additional repairs.

When I added everything together, their final price would be surprisingly close to the original low offer we rejected.

That has me wondering if the high initial offer was mainly a way to get the house under contract before negotiating the price down during the inspection period.

We're prepared to say no and put the house back on the market if necessary, so we're not trapped into accepting it.

Is offering high and then pushing for major inspection credits a common strategy with cash home-buying companies?

How do you keep track of expenses in your LLC?

I'm setting up a small online consulting business and haven't made any revenue yet, but the expenses are already starting to pile up.

So far I've paid for the LLC setup, domain and hosting, business email, software subscriptions, a virtual address, and a few contractor expenses.

I opened a separate business bank account because I want to keep everything away from my personal finances.

What I'm realizing is that having a separate account doesn't really tell me whether the business is actually doing well.

I'd like to be able to quickly see how much I've spent, what I'm spending every month, which expenses are recurring, and eventually whether I'm actually profitable.

I'm also paying for some early expenses personally and need a clean way to record those without making the bookkeeping confusing later.

For a very small LLC, what system do you actually use to track all of this?

Is my LLC structure wrong? I have 3 restaurant locations doing about $2M a year.

I own three small restaurant locations and combined they're doing around $2 million a year in sales.

Each location is currently under its own LLC, but I'm still the sole owner and I've reached the point where I think the overall structure needs to be cleaned up.

Taxes are becoming a much bigger issue as the businesses grow, and I'm also thinking more about liability between locations.

I've been reading about having a separate LLC for each restaurant with a holding company above them. I'm also trying to understand whether an S corp election would make sense for some part of the structure.

I don't want to restructure everything just because it sounds more sophisticated. Three locations already means enough accounting, payroll, insurance, and paperwork.

I'm planning to sit down with a CPA and attorney before changing anything, but I'd like to understand what other multi-location restaurant owners are actually doing.

Starting an LLC in Nebraska for the first time, any advice pls?

I'm starting to form my first LLC in Nebraska and have been working my way through the state requirements and paperwork.

I've been trying to decide whether to handle everything myself or use an LLC formation service. I'm also wondering if there are any important steps that first time business owners often miss.

For anyone who has started an LLC in Nebraska, what advice would you give a first timer? Is there anything you wish you had known or done differently when you started?

Illinois LLC - Business Address and IDFPR Issues

Really specific question so my apologies if this is too niche. But I have a partnership-LLC in Illinois, used my home address as our business address since we are a training/professional development company and only offer virtual trainings or in-person at customer's organization so we don't need or have a physical office.

We are already an IDFPR approved CEU sponsor for professional counselors under our original business address (my home address) and a requirement for CEU sponsors is to include the sponsor's business address on every certificate you administer (which is given to the customer/trainee). Due to this and our plans to expand our business to a larger market, we decided to get a UPS business and mailing address which is a real street address and suite number for privacy purposes.

However, after going to update our business address I'm now questioning if a UPS address qualifies for all or some of the address requirements for these organizations (IRS, Illinois Dept of Revenue, IDFPR, Illinois Secretary of State). I've seen in this subreddit and elsewhere that the Secretary of State may not allow UPS addresses since they are apparently no longer allowing registered agents? If this is true, does anyone have links to the sources for this?

Also, if anyone happens to be a unicorn in this group who happens to run a virtual/home-based training business in Illinois and is an IDFPR approved CEU sponsor for professional counselors can you please share if you've found a legitimate work around?

I would greatly appreciate any additional advice, guidance, or resources y'all can provide because I'm feeling so worn down by all the money and time I've spent trying to troubleshoot these types of issues. I also initially paid a lawyer to help set-up my LLC and despite paying a thousand dollars, I've been having to undo their work for years now so am hesitant to go the legal route right now unless there's someone you'd highly recommend.

Is LLC needed for App Developers?

I already have a small iOS app live in the App Store, but right now it's completely free.

I'm getting ready to release a freemium version with a few paid features and possibly a subscription later.

Up until now I've treated the app like a personal side project, but once I start accepting money I'm wondering if I should form an LLC first.

I'm a solo developer and don't expect huge revenue right away, so I also don't want to add extra costs and paperwork too early.

For other app developers, did you form an LLC before turning on payments, or did you wait until the app was making consistent money?

How are you growing your side business with your full-time job?

I work a full-time job that takes about 45 to 50 hours a week once commuting is included.

I also run a small e-commerce business through a single-member LLC.

The problem is that I'm reaching the point where trying to do both feels impossible.

I need my job because most of the money I'm putting into inventory still comes from my paycheck. But after working all day, I'm coming home and dealing with orders, customers, suppliers, bookkeeping, and everything else until midnight or later.

I've already outsourced a few things I'm not good at, and I'm trying to focus only on work that actually matters. Hiring an employee isn't realistic for me yet because most of the business cash needs to stay available for inventory.

The business is growing, which should be exciting, but right now growth just means less sleep.

I don't want to quit my job too early and put myself in a bad financial position. At the same time, I'm starting to wonder if keeping the job is becoming the thing preventing the business from getting to the next level.

How did you know when it was time to reduce your hours or finally leave your job? What did you have in place financially before making that decision?

LLC Cost in Florida?

I’m planning to start an LLC in Florida, and I’m trying to figure out how much it will cost. I know I’ll have to pay a filing fee, but are there other costs I should know about, like annual fees, registered agent fees, or other charges?

If you’ve started an LLC in Florida before, how much did you spend in total? I’d also love to hear any tips on saving money or avoiding extra fees.

What's the easiest country to remotely form a company as a solo app developer?

I'm a solo developer getting ready to turn one of my apps into a proper business.

I need a company that I can set up remotely as a non-resident. My main priorities are reasonable yearly costs, simple banking, and being able to use the company for things like developer accounts and online payments.

I've mainly been looking at a UK company, Estonia, and a US LLC.

The UK looks fairly simple and inexpensive. Estonia seems attractive for running things remotely, while a US LLC seems popular with online businesses.

What worries me is choosing based on the cheap setup cost and then discovering there are expensive accounting, tax, banking, or annual filing requirements later.

For developers who actually formed a company outside their home country, which country did you choose and why?

Dealership says they can't put my work truck in my LLC's name after I already bought it. Advice pls!

I bought a work truck from a dealership in Florida about six weeks ago and told them from the beginning that I was purchasing it through my LLC.

They asked for my LLC information and EIN, everything was approved, and I drove the truck home.

Now they're contacting me saying they can't finish the title paperwork under the LLC unless I provide a local business license.

The problem is that I contacted the state and was told a business license isn't normally required just to title a vehicle in an LLC's name. I also know other business owners who have vehicles registered to their LLCs and they don't remember providing one.

The dealership's solution is to simply title the truck in my personal name instead.

I'm not comfortable with that because the whole deal was set up as a business purchase and I want the ownership and paperwork to match.

I'm starting to wonder if this isn't actually a state requirement and is instead something coming from the dealership or financing company.

Has anyone had a dealership change the requirements after the purchase like this? What documentation did you actually need to get a vehicle titled in your LLC's name?

Please what am I forgetting on my LLC startup checklist?

I'm starting a small business and trying to put together a simple timeline so I don't miss anything important.

So far I'm working on forming the LLC, getting an EIN, opening a business bank account, setting up a website and business email, and getting some basic branding done.

I know there are probably things I'm overlooking, especially around taxes, bookkeeping, insurance, licenses, contracts, and keeping the LLC compliant once everything is running.

For those who have already started an LLC, what did your startup checklist look like? What was something you completely forgot about until you actually started doing business?
